Various respiratory, musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal, neurological, and urinary complications have been reported in Kawasaki disease. Here, we describe a rare case of atlantoaxial rotatory fixation (AARF) associated with incomplete Kawasaki disease. The case is of a healthy 4-year-old Japanese boy who had a high-grade fever, lymphadenopathy, and torticollis diagnosed with incomplete Kawasaki disease.

Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate autonomic nervous system imbalance in schizophrenia by comparing heart rate variability (HRV) between patients with schizophrenia and healthy controls, and to assess changes in HRV in patients before and after electroconvulsive therapy (ECT).
Methods: HRV was compared between patients with schizophrenia ( = 17) and age- and gender-matched healthy controls ( = 34). Changes in HRV were also assessed in patients pre- and post-ECT.

Introduction: Recently, researchers have introduced the concept of 'early term' infants, defined as infants born at 37 or 38 weeks of gestation, and their outcome has been discussed. Although the complications experienced by early term are less severe than those in preterm infants, this group accounts for a much larger proportion of newborns, making the assessment of outcomes important in clinical practice.
Methods: This observational study of term infants born at Tokyo Metropolitan Toshima Hospital aimed to understand the short-term outcomes in early term infants.

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the epidemiology of other infectious diseases. In particular, the respiratory syncytial (RS) virus infects almost all children during their first or second year of life. However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, many restrictions were enforced that isolated children from other children.

Purpose: To compare different biopsy systems with different-sized needles by determining the weight of the tissue cores, which is one of the important factors for precise pathological diagnoses, and to provide a rationale for choosing the appropriate breast biopsy system with the appropriate needle for breast cancer biopsy.
Methods: Six different vacuum-assisted biopsy (VAB) systems and one core needle biopsy (CNB) system with different-sized needles in different modes were compared, representing 15 total combinations. Tissue cores were obtained from a chicken breast phantom, which is a common substitute for human breast tissue.

Background And Objectives: Although intraprocedural rupture (IPR) is rare, it is a devastating complication of endovascular treatment (EVT) for intracranial aneurysms. Very few studies have been conducted on IPR, and the safety and efficacy of management techniques of IPR have not been investigated.
Methods: Patients who experienced IPR during EVT between 2013 and 2022 were enrolled from a multicenter observational registry.

Typically, non-typhoidal (NTS) causes gastroenteritis; however, NTS can also lead to extraintestinal manifestations like bacteremia, meningitis, and abscess in vulnerable populations such as children, elderly, and immunocompromised individuals. Extraintestinal manifestations in an immunocompetent patient are uncommon. Here, we report a case of iliacus myositis and bacteremia caused by NTS in a healthy adult.

Human mpox, which has spread worldwide since May 2022, is characterized by symptoms involving the genital area; however, its treatment methods and clinical course are not completely understood. Furthermore, penile swelling in human mpox can be difficult to differentiate from cellulitis and antibiotic use has been reported in such cases. Herein, we report a case of human mpox in Japan with prominent penile swelling and persistent penile ulcers that improved without specific treatment.

Infectious virus shedding from individuals infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is used to estimate human-to-human transmission risk. Control of SARS-CoV-2 transmission requires identifying the immune correlates that protect infectious virus shedding. Mucosal immunity prevents infection by SARS-CoV-2, which replicates in the respiratory epithelium and spreads rapidly to other hosts.

Background: Exercise therapy is the key to preventing admission of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). However, a few studies have examined the effects of exercise therapy on patients with T2DM undergoing inpatient diabetes self-management education and support (IDSMES).
Objective: This study investigated whether exercise therapy influenced the incidence of admission after discharge in patients with T2DM undergoing IDSMES.

Objective: The association between the severity of COVID-19 and gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding is unknown. This study aimed to determine whether the severity of COVID-19 is a risk factor for GI bleeding.
Design: A multicentre, retrospective cohort study was conducted on hospitalised patients with COVID-19 between January 2020 and December 2021.

Background: A left atrial posterior wall isolation (LAPWI) is one of the atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation strategies.
Hypothesis: We hypothesized that an additional empirical LAPWI would increase the freedom from recurrent atrial arrhythmias as compared to standard AF ablation in persistent AF patients.
Methods: The CORNERSTONE AF study is a prospective, randomized, multicenter study investigating patients with AF persisting for >7 days and <3 years undergoing first-time AF ablation.

Whether severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is transmitted through breast milk remains controversial. This study aimed to determine the presence of SARS-CoV-2 in breast milk and assess its transmissibility to the child in infancy. Eleven samples were obtained from nine mothers with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
