In minimal change nephrotic syndrome (MCNS), selective proteinuria is associated with structural alterations of the glomerular epithelial cells, such as effacement of the foot process. Although the pathogenesis of MCNS has not been completely clarified, clinical and experimental observations suggest that it results from T cell dysfunction in the pathogenesis. Recently, it has been proposed that the occurrence of MCNS has been associated with type 2 Th (Th2) lymphocyte-dependent conditions and some vascular permeability factors, which are induced by T cell disorder.

Diabetes Res Clin Pract

June 2001

The Department of Endocrinology and Internal Medicine, Toshiba-rinkan Hospital, 7-9-1 Kamitsuruma, Sagamihara-shi, Kanagawa, 228-8585, Japan.

The focus of this paper is to evaluate the relationship between postural sway assessed by a gravicorder and peripheral neuropathy in patients with type 2 diabetes. Posturography (GRAVICHART), electrophysiological tests, and power spectrum analysis of heart rate fluctuations were performed in the following age-matched subjects: 123 type 2 diabetic patients without peripheral neuropathy, 32 type 2 diabetic patients with peripheral neuropathy, and 55 healthy control subjects. All diabetic patients with a history of clinical neurological dysfunction were excluded from the study.

Although severe infection caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) has become a serious social problem in medical facilities, it is relatively uncommon in the urological field. It is supposed that MRSA in the urine is asymptomatic and MRSA urinary colonization is not likely to occur compared with the other Staphylococci. We report a case of sepsis caused by MRSA that occurred in the patient following retropubic prostatectomy.
