Background: No data compare newer-generation transcatheter heart valves (THVs) in terms of next-day discharge (NDD) following transfemoral (TF) transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI).
Aims: We aimed to evaluate the safety of NDD in unselected patients who received ACURATE (neo/neo2), Evolut (PRO/PRO+/FX) and the SAPIEN (3/Ultra) THVs.
Methods: This multicentre registry included patients who underwent TF-TAVI without a preprocedural permanent pacemaker implantation (PPI) and were discharged the next day without a new PPI.

This study presents an experimental investigation of the influence of MB concentration on the resonance frequency of lipid-coated microbubbles (MBs). Expanding on theoretical models and numerical simulations from previous research, this work experimentally investigates the effect of MB size on the rate of resonance frequency increase with concentration, a phenomenon observed across MBs with two different lipid compositions: propylene glycol (PG) and propylene glycol and glycerol (PGG). Employing a custom-designed ultrasound attenuation measurement setup, we measured the frequency-dependent attenuation of MBs, isolating MBs based on size to generate distinct monodisperse sub-populations for analysis.

To explore the hypothesis that knee osteoarthritis patients with osteoporosis represent a sub-cohort with different disease characteristics and origin of symptoms. Men and women in the Osteoarthritis Initiative (OAI) at visit 5 (36 months) were examined for osteoporosis (N = 1483) using DXA (T-score at femoral neck ≤ -2.5), use of bisphosphonates, or having experienced a fracture.

Neurodegenerative diseases are a pathologically, clinically and genetically diverse group of diseases characterised by selective dysfunction, loss of synaptic connectivity and neurodegeneration, and are associated with the deposition of misfolded proteins in neurons and/or glia. Molecular studies have highlighted the role of conformationally altered proteins in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases and have paved the way for developing disease-specific biomarkers that capture and differentiate the main type/s of protein abnormality responsible for neurodegenerative diseases, some of which are currently used in clinical practice. These proteins follow sequential patterns of anatomical involvement and disease spread in the brain and may also be detected in peripheral organs.

While mostly de novo truncating variants in SCAF4 were recently identified in 18 individuals with variable neurodevelopmental phenotypes, knowledge on the molecular and clinical spectrum is still limited. We assembled data on 50 novel individuals with SCAF4 variants ascertained via GeneMatcher and personal communication. With detailed evaluation of clinical data, in silico predictions and structural modeling, we further characterized the molecular and clinical spectrum of the autosomal dominant SCAF4-associated neurodevelopmental disorder.

Objectives: Patent foramen ovale (PFO) closure is recommended for patients who experience a cryptogenic stroke attributable to PFO. Although few randomized control trials (RCTs) have captured long-term effectiveness of PFO closure, observational data has been abundant. This is the first systematic review of observational studies determining incidence of long-term adverse outcomes in adults who underwent transcatheter PFO closure, with comparisons to findings from RCTs.

Copy-number variants (CNVs) that increase the risk for neurodevelopmental disorders also affect cognitive ability. However, such CNVs remain challenging to study due to their scarcity, limiting our understanding of gene-dosage-sensitive biological processes linked to cognitive ability. We performed a genome-wide association study (GWAS) in 258,292 individuals, which identified-for the first time-a duplication at 2q12.

Importance: People experiencing addiction often face difficulties completing their activities of daily living (ADLs). Little research exists on how problem gambling (PG)-a serious public health issue-intersects with ADLs.
Objective: To explore how PG shapes a person's ADLs.

Regular physical activity and exercise (PA) are cornerstones of diabetes care for individuals with type 1 diabetes. In recent years, the availability of automated insulin delivery (AID) systems has improved the ability of people with type 1 diabetes to achieve the recommended glucose target ranges. PA provides additional health benefits but can cause glucose fluctuations, which challenges current AID systems.

Objective: Patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) may be at increased risk for adverse events during procedural sedation, however, there remains a gap in the literature quantifying these risks. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the risk of peri-procedural adverse events in OSA patients undergoing procedural sedation in ambulatory settings, compared to those without OSA.
Methods: Four databases were systematically searched for studies published from January 1, 2011 to January 4, 2024.

Background: The aim of this study was to quantify mediators of neutrophilic inflammation within airway extracellular vesicles (EVs) of children treated for a cystic fibrosis (CF) pulmonary exacerbation (PEx).
Methods: EVs were isolated from stored sputum samples collected before and after antibiotic therapy for PEx between 2011 and 2013, and characterised by nanoparticle tracking analysis (NTA) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Western blot analysis of EV protein extracts was used for EV canonical protein markers CD63, CD9 and flotillin-1 (FLOT1), as well as neutrophil elastase (NE), myeloperoxidase (MPO) and interleukin-8.

Mathematical and spatial abilities are positively related at both the behavioral and neural levels. Much of the evidence illuminating this relationship comes from classic laboratory-based experimental methods focused on cognitive performance despite most individuals also experiencing math and space in other contexts, such as in conversations or lectures. To broaden our understanding of math-space integration in these more commonplace situations, we used an auditory memory-encoding task with stimuli whose content evoked a range of educational and everyday settings related to math or spatial thinking.

Purpose: Using data from Ontario, Canada, this report shows how provincial government-assigned health card numbers can be used for individual-level randomization in large pragmatic trials. We describe how health card numbers are assigned and analyze the distribution of health card digits in a trial setting. We then provide an example of how they can be used for randomization and discuss the methodological and practical considerations of the approach.

The effect of increased triglycerides (TGs) as an independent factor in atherosclerosis development has been contentious, in part, because severe hypertriglyceridemia associates with low levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C). To test whether hyperchylomicronemia, in the absence of markedly reduced LDL-C levels, contributes to atherosclerosis, we created mice with induced whole-body lipoprotein lipase (LpL) deficiency combined with LDL receptor (LDLR) deficiency. On an atherogenic Western-type diet (WD), male and female mice with induced global LpL deficiency (i ) and LDLR knockdown ( ) developed hypertriglyceridemia and elevated cholesterol levels; all the increased cholesterol was in chylomicrons or large VLDL.
