Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Toride Kyodo General Hospital, 2-1-1 Hongo, 302-0022, Ibaraki, Toride, Japan.

Insufficiency fractures are often overlooked, particularly when associated with greater trochanteric avulsion fractures. Here, we report magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings of insufficiency femoral intertrochanteric fractures associated with greater trochanteric avulsion fractures treated by internal fixation. We identified 8 patients (3 men and 5 women; age range, 58-92 years old).

Does a proton pump inhibitor cause hypokalemia?

Intern Med

Division of Nephrology, Department of Internal Medicine, Toride Kyodo General Hospital (JA Toride Medical Center, renamed on April 1, 2011), Japan.

Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) act only in the stomach, although the proton pump, H(+),K(+)-ATPase exists and contributes to H(+) and K(+) homeostasis in the kidney. We encountered two hypokalemic cases receiving omeprazole. These cases were women ages 69 and 80 years old.

Objective: Since the conventional drip-infusion method for measuring inulin clearance (Cin) has problems related to its accuracy and performance, we explored a more accurate and concise method by rapid intravenous injection of a newly developed inulin fraction (Inulead(®)), in which spot urine sampling was omitted and the administration period of inulin was shortened from 120 to 5 minutes.

Patients And Methods: Twenty seven patients (M/F: 15/12, 67.8 ± 12.

To reduce the incidence of inguinal hernia (IH) after radical retropubic prostatectomy (RRP), a simple prophylactic procedure was carried out during RRP. A consecutive 82 patients who had undergone RRP for clinically localized prostate cancer between July 2002 and October 2006 at Toride Kyodo General Hospital were enrolled. From July 2002 to November 2003, 20 patients underwent conventional RRP.

Background: Two activated charcoal preparations, Kremezin (K) and Merckmezin (M), are both available in Japan and derived from similar materials. However, their microstructures are distincty different, and possibly reflect differences in their properties of absorbance. To evaluate the difference between K and M, we investigated the effects of K and M on the clinical parameters related to uremia in pre-dialysis patients.

Objectives: Although hyperhomocyst(e)inemia had been proven to be a potent risk factor for ischemic stroke, it is still controversial which subtype of stroke is associated with hyperhomocyst(e)inemia. The aim of this study was to clarify the association between plasma homocyst(e)ine (Hcy) levels and stroke subtypes according to TOAST classifications based on MRI findings.

Methods: We prospectively recruited 124 consecutive first-ever ischemic stroke patients hospitalized in Toride Kyodo General Hospital.
