The key DNA repair enzyme DNA-PKcs has several and important cellular functions. Loss of DNA-PKcs activity in mice has revealed essential roles in immune and nervous systems. In humans, DNA-PKcs is a critical factor for brain development and function since mutation of the prkdc gene causes severe neurological deficits such as microcephaly and seizures, predicting yet unknown roles of DNA-PKcs in neurons.

Background: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a heterogeneous disease, associated with comorbidities, and high healthcare consumptions and costs. This study assessed the burden before and after treatment with dupilumab in adults with severe AD from 2018 to 2020, from the perspective of the Italian National Health Service (SSN).
Methods: From Fondazione Ricerca e Salute's administrative healthcare database (~5 million inhabitants/year), adults treated with dupilumab from 09/01/2018 to 31/12/2020 (index date) and a five-year lookback were identified.

Background: Placenta accreta spectrum disorders are associated with a high risk of maternal morbidity, particularly when surgery is performed under emergency conditions. This study aimed to investigate the incidence of emergency cesarean delivery in patients with a high probability of placenta accreta spectrum disorders on prenatal imaging and to compare the maternal and neonatal outcomes between patients requiring emergency cesarean delivery and those not requiring emergency cesarean delivery.
Data Sources: MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane, and ClinicalTrials.

(1) Background: The use of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) to relieve meconium obstruction of prematurity in the first days of life has been reported, with NAC reducing the viscosity of luminal contents by cleaving the disulfide bonds of mucoproteins. However, its use in this population should be further explored since it has been associated with hypernatremia and transient increase in transaminases and bilirubin. (2) Methods: In this retrospective study, we included neonates admitted because of enteral feeding intolerance and intestinal obstruction from 2019 to 2021 who received NAC as a rescue therapy before explorative laparotomy.

Analytical treatment interruption (ATI) is widely acknowledged as an essential component of studies to advance our understanding of HIV cure, but discussion has largely been focused on adults. To address this gap, we reviewed evidence related to the safety and utility of ATI in paediatric populations. Three randomised ATI trials using CD4 T-cell and clinical criteria to guide restart of antiretroviral therapy (ART) have been conducted.

A microbial consortium, based on the functional integration of photosynthetic and heterotrophic microorganisms, is the core of the Zero Mile System. This system is designed for reusing and upcycling household greywaters, a still untapped water resource. The previous challenges of dishwasher wastewater bioremediation demonstrated the capability of an ad hoc consortium (including a photosynthetic cyanobacterium and three heterotrophic bacterial isolates from dishwasher wastewater) to reclaim the wastewater at small/medium scale.

Neurodegenerative diseases (NDs) represent an unsolved problem to date with an ever-increasing population incidence. Particularly, Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most widespread ND characterized by an accumulation of amyloid aggregates of beta-amyloid (Aβ) and Tau proteins that lead to neuronal death and subsequent cognitive decline. Although neuroimaging techniques are needed to diagnose AD, the investigation of biomarkers within body fluids could provide important information on neurodegeneration.

Introduction: Growth patterns in Noonan syndrome (NS) remain relatively unknown. The objective of this study was to provide growth reference curves for patients with NS and identify correlations between their growth, genotype, and clinical features.
Methods: This was a 15-year-long, monocentric, observational, retrospective, non-interventional study.

BACKGROUND Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) is a rare immune-mediated peripheral nerve disorder. Among non-infectious factors, surgery has been identified as a potential trigger of the disease. This report presents the case of a 74-year-old man who developed GBS 15 days after a right lower lobectomy for lung adenocarcinoma.

Background: The risk of recurrence for non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) is high, and the current methods of predicting it rely on clinical and histopathological markers. Personalized risk assessment can be improved by including new prognostic biomarkers. Our research explores the potential of urinary metabolomics to predict cancer recurrence in NMIBC patients within three years.

Background And Objective: Intermediate-risk (IR) non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) encompasses a broad spectrum of disease, with heterogeneous outcomes in terms of disease recurrence and progression. The International Bladder Cancer Group (IBCG) recently proposed an updated scoring model for IR substratification that is based on five key risk factors. Our aim was to provide a clinical validation of the IBCG scoring system and substratification model for IR NMIBC.

The flow of emulsions in confined microfluidic channels is affected by surface roughness. Directional roughness effects have recently been reported in channels with asymmetric boundary conditions featuring a flat wall, and a wall textured with directional roughness, the latter promoting a change in the velocity profiles when the flow direction of emulsions is inverted [D. Filippi , , 2023, , 2201748].

: Pelvic insufficiency fractures (PIF) are typical in geriatric populations with reduced bone quality, most commonly in elderly postmenopausal women. These fractures are usually caused by low-energy forces over the bones during ordinary life and cause disabling pain. Treatment options range from conservative to operative.

The nutrition of preterm infants remains contaminated by wrong beliefs that reflect inexactitudes and perpetuate old practices. In this narrative review, we report current evidence in preterm neonates and in preterm neonates undergoing surgery. Convictions that necrotizing enterocolitis is reduced by the delay in introducing enteral feeding, a slow advancement in enteral feeds, and the systematic control of residual gastric volumes, should be abandoned.

Background: Protection provided by seasonal influenza vaccination (SIV) may be measured against numerous outcomes, and their heterogeneity may hamper decision-making. The aim of this study was to explore outcomes used for estimation of SIV efficacy/effectiveness (VE) and obtain expert consensus on their importance.
Research Design And Methods: An umbrella review was first conducted to collect and map outcomes considered in systematic reviews of SIV VE.

Aim: to assess the effects of advanced wound dressings (AWD) commonly used in the treatment of predominantly neuropathic diabetic foot ulcers (DFU) The present meta-analysis was designed to support the development of the Italian Guidelines for the Treatment of Diabetic Foot Syndrome (DFS).
Methods: A Medline and Embase search were performed up to April 1st, 2024 collecting all RCTs including diabetic patients or reporting subgroup analyses on diabetic patients with DFU comparing AWD with placebo/standard of care (SoC), with a duration of at least 12 weeks. Prespecified endpoints were: ulcer healing (principal), time-to-healing, frequency of dressings change, major and minor amputation, pain, and all-cause mortality.

Introduction: The role of rehabilitation during and after the COVID-19 pandemia was influenced by the progressive acquisition of knowledge on the pathology with the adaptation of the rehabilitative instruments to the heterogeneous impairments of the patients. The aim of this systematic review is to describe the effects of the rehabilitation tools applied in the last three years in the different phases of the COVID-19 disease.
Evidence Acquisition: A literature search of MEDLINE (PubMed), Scopus and Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) was conducted.
