For the first time, membranes based on poly(1-trimethylsilyl-1-propyne) (PTMSP) with 5-50 wt% loading of hyper-crosslinked polystyrene sorbent particles (HCPS) were obtained; the membranes were investigated for the problem of effective removal of volatile organic compounds from aqueous solutions using vacuum pervaporation. The industrial HCPS sorbent Purolite Macronet™ MN200 was chosen due to its high sorption capacity for organic solvents. It has been found that the membranes are asymmetric when HCPS content is higher than 30 wt%; scanning electron microscopy of the cross-sections the membranes demonstrate that they have a clearly defined thin layer, consisting mainly of PTMSP, and a thick porous layer, consisting mainly of HCPS.

For the first time, a systematic study was carried out of the replacement of the low-volatility solvents N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) or dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) with the high-volatility solvent acetone in the casting solution of polyacrylonitrile (PAN). The effect of acetone's presence in the casting solution on the performance of ultrafiltration membranes fabricated via vapor-induced phase separation (VIPS) was investigated. It was possible to replace 40% of NMP and 50% of DMSO with acetone, which resulted in the reduction of the casting solution viscosity from 70.

Biodegradable polyesters represent an advanced alternative to polyolefin plastics in various applications. Polybutylene adipate terephthalate (PBAT) can compete with polyolefins in terms of their mechanical characteristics and melt processing conditions. The properties of PBAT depend on the molecular weight, dispersity, and architecture of the copolymer.

P magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (MAS NMR) spectroscopy of adsorbed alkyl-substituted phosphine oxides has witnessed tremendous progress during the last years and has become one of the most informative and sensitive methods of zeolite acidity investigation. However, quantitative evaluation of the number of sites is still a challenge. This study clarifies the main origin of errors occurring during NMR experiments, introduces the appropriate standards (both internal and external), and determines the relaxation parameters and the conditions for the acquisition and integration of spectra.

A series of new organic ligands (5,5')-2,2'-(alkane-α,ω-diyldiselenyl)-bis-5-(2-pyridylmethylene)-3,5-dihydro-4-imidazol-4-ones (L) consisting of two 5-(2-pyridylmethylene)-3,5-dihydro-4-imidazol-4-one units linked with polymethylene chains of various lengths ( = 2-10, where is the number of CH units) have been synthesized. The reactions of these ligands with CuCl·2HO and CuClO·6HO gave Cu or Cu containing mono- and binuclear complexes with CuLCl ( = 2-4) or CuL(ClO) ( = 1, 2) composition. It was shown that the agents reducing Cu to Cu in the course of complex formation can be both a ligand and an organic solvent in which the reaction is carried out.

In this work, we combined the non-solvent induced phase separation (NIPS) and further cross-linking by cations towards the preparation of nanofiltration membranes based on sodium alginate, a biodegradable, natural polymer. Acetone, ethanol, toluene, and hexane were used as non-solvents, and cations of calcium, silver, and aluminum-for polymer cross-linking, respectively. Results showed the precipitation strength of non-solvent played a noticeable role in the membrane's performance; for instance, the toluene permeability changed by four orders of magnitude with the decrease of precipitation strength of the non-solvent: acetone ( = 0.

Designing hollow fiber (HF) membrane modules occupies one of the key positions in the development of efficient membrane processes for various purposes. In developing HF membrane modules, it is very important to have a uniform HF distribution and flow mixing in the shell side to significantly improve mass transfer and efficiency. This work suggests the application of different textile 3D HF structures (braided hoses and woven tape fabrics).

Nowadays, nanofiltration is widely used for water treatment due to its advantages, such as energy-saving, sustainability, high efficiency, and compact equipment. In the present work, novel nanofiltration membranes based on the polymer of intrinsic microporosity PIM-1 modified by metal-organic frameworks (MOFs)-MIL-140A and MIL-125-were developed to increase nanofiltration efficiency for the removal of heavy metal ions and dyes. The structural and physicochemical properties of the developed PIM-1 and PIM-1/MOFs membranes were studied by the spectroscopic technique (FTIR), microscopic methods (SEM and AFM), and contact angle measurement.

Thermoresponsive polymers are usually characterized by a locally amphiphilic chain structure and their self-assembly in solution is controlled, in particular, by the surface activity of the monomer units or side chains. We theoretically study the condensed state of a single diblock copolymer molecule consisting of a hydrophobic block and amphiphilic block with hydrophobic groups in the backbone and pendant polar groups. The equilibrium parameters of the polymer globules of different shapes are determined using the mean-field approach to determine the most favorable structure.

Ultra-high molecular weight poly-α-olefins are widely used as drag reducing agents (DRAs) for pipeline transportation of oil and refined petroleum products. The synthesis of polyolefin DRAs is based on low-temperature Ziegler-Natta (ZN) polymerization of higher α-olefins. 1-Hexene based DRAs, the most effective at room temperature, typically lose DR activity at low temperatures.

For the first time, highly porous hypercrosslinked polystyrene layer was synthesized within a gas chromatography capillary column and successfully deposited onto the capillary walls generating porous layer open-tubular capillary column. Elaborated three steps synthetic procedure provides tightly bonded porous polymeric layer and ensues complete elimination of particle shedding and the needs for particle traps. Due to highly developed surface area, porous layer open-tubular column provides strong solute retention that is useful for the separation of various volatile solvents and light gas compounds including ethane, ethylene, ethyne.

The influence of casting centrifugation process parameters, such as a rotation speed (ω), the amount of the film-forming solution (V), and its concentration (C) on transport properties of composite membranes were investigated. A number of composite membranes based on poly (1-trimethylsilylpropyne) (PTMSP) and micro- (MFFK-1) and ultrafiltration (UFFK) membranes were obtained using the spin-coating method. For the first time, an unexpected dependence of permeance and ideal selectivity on rotation speed had been discovered: the thickness of the selective layer decreases from 3.

In bone surgery and orthopedics, bioresorbable materials can be helpful in bone repair and countering post-op infections. Explicit antibacterial activity, osteoinductive and osteoconductive effects are essential to achieving this objective. Nonwoven electrospun (ES) fibers are receiving the close attention of physicians as promising materials for wound dressing and tissue engineering; potentially, in high contrast with dense materials, ES mats hamper regeneration of the bone extracellular matrix to a lesser extent.

The lack of high throughput screening (HTS) techniques for small molecules that stabilize DNA iMs limits their development as perspective drug candidates. Here we showed that fluorescence monitoring for probing the effects of ligands on the iM stability using the FAM-BHQ1 pair provides incorrect results due to additional dye-related interactions. We developed an alternative system with fluorescent phenoxazine pseudonucleotides in loops that do not alter iM unfolding.

Aliphatic polyesters are an important class of polymeric materials for biomedical applications due to their versatile and tunable chemistry, biocompatibility and biodegradability. A capability of direct bonding with biomedically significant molecules, provided by the presence of the reactive end functional groups (FGs), is highly desirable for prospective polymers. Among FGs, N-hydroxysuccinimidyl activated ester group (NHS) and maleimide fragment (MI) provide efficient covalent bonding with -NH- and -SH containing compounds.

Lithium-rich geothermal waters are considered as an alternative source, and further concentration of lithium is required for its effective recovery. In this work, we have simulated a three-stage lithium recovery process including the brine softening by precipitation Ca/Mg cations with sodium carbonate (calculated in PHREEQC), followed by an integrated system consisting of membrane distillation unit (water evaporation), crystallizer (NaCl precipitation), and membrane extraction (Li recovery), which was simulated in Simulink/MATLAB. It was shown that the deterioration of membrane performance in time due to scaling/fouling plays a critical role in the performance of the system resulting in the dramatic increase of the replaced membrane modules by a factor of 5.

Despite the world's combined efforts, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), the causative agent of AIDS, remains one of the world's most serious public health challenges. High genetic variability of HIV complicates the development of anti-HIV vaccine, and there is an actual clinical need for increasing the efficiency of anti-HIV drugs in terms of targeted delivery and controlled release. Tenofovir (TFV), a nucleotide-analog reverse transcriptase inhibitor, has gained wide acceptance as a drug for pre-exposure prophylaxis or treatment of HIV infection.
