Unique anatomical deviations in canal structure are rare in anterior teeth, especially central incisors, and thus risk being overlooked. For successful intervention, a meticulous diagnostic procedure and treatment plan, significantly aided by cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), are crucial. The case at hand explores the management of a maxillary left central incisor in a cleft palate patient, characterized by multiple developmental lobes, a bulbous crown, and an atypical root anatomy.

Teeth discoloration poses a widespread challenge in dental health across various regions. Conventional teeth whitening methods often result in enamel deterioration and soft tissue harm due to the utilization of incompatible whitening agents and continuous intense light exposure. Here, we propose an effective phototherapy technique for teeth whitening, employing pathways of energy transition through intersystem crossing.

Distinguishing discolored caries lesions using biofluorescence and dental bleaching: An in vitro simulation model study.

Photodiagnosis Photodyn Ther

August 2024

Department of Preventive Dentistry & Public Oral Health, BK21 FOUR Project, Yonsei University College of Dentistry, Seoul, Korea, 03722, 50-1 Yonsei-ro, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, Republic of Korea. Electronic address:

Background: Distinguishing between discoloration caused by caries and organic stains is challenging for dentists in clinical settings. Biofluorescence (BF)-bleaching assesses caries lesions by evaluating BF changes after removing organic stains through dental bleaching, leaving cariogenic discoloration. This study aimed to apply BF-bleaching to a simulation model mimicking cariogenic discoloration and compare the BF color changes between organic staining and cariogenic discoloration.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore how the mineral distribution in enamel affects the effectiveness of silver diammine fluoride (SDF) in remineralizing and staining caries lesions.
  • A laboratory experiment tested different treatments (SDF, fluoride varnish, and deionized water) on various types of lesions created in bovine enamel, analyzing changes in mineral levels and color.
  • Results showed that treatment type and lesion protocol significantly affected mineral loss and color changes, with SDF leading to increased mineral gain in the surface zone, while staining from SDF varied based on lesion type.

Fluorosis is a widespread condition that is endemic and found in approximately 25 nations worldwide. It manifests as dental fluorosis, an inherited enamel imperfection resulting from excessive fluoride exposure during tooth development. This condition can lead to varying degrees of tooth discoloration, often requiring aesthetic correction.

Dentin dysplasia Type 1 (DD1) is an uncommon inherited condition marked by structural irregularities in dentin, leading to notable dental abnormalities. Clinically, patients typically present with generalized slight yellowish discoloration and tooth mobility, while radiographic examination often reveals a reduced pulp chamber with the absence of pulp stones, a hallmark feature of DD1. Treatment involves a multidisciplinary approach including extraction of affected teeth, direct sinus lift procedure bilaterally, implant placement, and subsequent fixed prosthesis placement.

Influence of Cavity Lining on the 3-Year Clinical Outcome of Posterior Composite Restorations: A Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial.

Dent J (Basel)

May 2024

University Outpatient Clinic for Conservative Dentistry and Periodontology, Department of Dentistry, Medical Faculty, Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg, Magdeburger Strasse 16, 06112 Halle, Germany.

The purpose of this randomized, split-mouth-designed controlled and single-blinded clinical study was to evaluate the 3-year clinical performance of Class I and Class II resin composite restorations placed with or without cavity lining with a flowable composite. Fifty patients with treatment needs in two premolars or molars were included. One of the teeth was restored using the nanohybrid composite (GrandioSO, control group), in the test group a high viscosity flowable composite was additionally applied as a first layer.

Anterior Esthetic Restorations with the Stratified Stamp Technique: A Case Report.

Biomimetics (Basel)

May 2024

Unit of Restorative Dentistry and Endodontics, Department of Medical, Oral and Biotechnological Science, School of Dentistry, "G. D'Annunzio" University Chieti-Pescara, 66100 Chieti, Italy.

Anterior teeth restoration represents a challenge for dentists, who often rely on the dental technician's wax-up. The proposed Stratified Stamp Technique (SST) allows for clinically reproducing the wax-up in a quick and easy way. A patient with fractures and discoloration on the upper central incisors was treated with resin-based composite direct restorations.

This in vitro study aimed to determine the efficacy of dentin bonding agents in preventing color changes following Regenerative Endodontic Procedures. One hundred twenty bovine incisors were endodontically prepared and randomly assigned to a two main factors design: application of a dentin bonding agent (Scotchbond Adper, 3M ESPE, St Paul, MN, USA) in the pulp chamber (Group 1, n=60) versus no bonding intervention (Group 2, n=60), and five levels of intracanal medication (n=12/subgroup): Triple antibiotic paste (TAP), double antibiotic paste (DAB), calcium hydroxide (CH), modified triple antibiotic paste (TAPM), and Control (CTL). Color changes were measured over 28 days at multiple time points (1, 3, 7, 14, 21, and 28 days) using the CIEDE2000 formula to calculate the color difference (ΔE00) from baseline (T0).

Trios Lidisi Veneer, Transforming Smiles Using an Intraoral Scanner - A Case Report.

Indian J Dent Res

October 2023

Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Babu Banarasi Das College of Dental Sciences, Babu Banarasi Das University, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India.

Introduction: The need to perform restorations with a natural appearance is one of the most challenging aspects of dentistry, and reproducing the colour of natural teeth in restorations is a clinical challenge due to the complex optical characteristics of dentition. Various procedures have been advocated in the literature to correct dental anomalies, particularly in the aesthetic region, such as tooth discoloration due to fluorosis or dentition spacing due to changes in tooth shape, such as peg laterals.

Clinical Applications: Veneer are one of the most commonly used treatment modalities in such cases.

Single tooth orange discoloration secondary to root canal calcification occurs as a consequence of dental trauma, orthodontic treatment, or for unknown rea- sons. A correct case history must be compiled and a CBCT study carried out in order to establish the diag- nosis and define the best treatment plan in each case. The aim of the present study was to offer a therapeutic protocol involving a clinical decision-making tree dia- gram based on the presence or absence of apical dis- ease and the degree of canal calcification.
