Activation of bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) 4 signaling promotes the survival of retinal ganglion cell (RGC) after acute injury. In this study, we investigated the role of the BMP4 signaling pathway in regulating the degeneration of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) in a mouse glaucoma model and its potential application in retinal stem cell. Our results demonstrate that BMP4-GPX4 not only reduces oxidative stress and iron accumulation but also promotes neuroprotective factors that support the survival of transplanted RSCs into the host retina.

This study aims to compare the survival discrimination of the Tumor-Node-Metastasis (TNM) eighth and ninth editions for patients with localized and locally advanced (LLA) anal squamous cell carcinoma (ASCC) treated non-surgically and to evaluate the prognostic impact of T classification and lymph node (LN) status with data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database. We retrospectively included 6,876 patients in the comparison. We observed the inversion of survival outcomes for stages IIB and IIIA diseases in the TNM eighth edition [median overall survival (OS): 112 months for stage IIB vs.

Background: Although there have been reports that green tea intake has thromboprophylactic effect, it was still unknown whether it had adjuvant effect on the basis of conventional anticoagulation for patients diagnosed with venous thromboembolism (VTE).
Methods: VTE patients were retrospectively classified into green tea group and no green tea group in a 1:1 ratio using propensity score matching, based on whether they drank green tea during the 3 months' period after VTE diagnosis. Primary outcomes were VTE recurrence at 3 months after VTE diagnosis and VTE-related death during 3 months after VTE diagnosis.

Maturity onset diabetes of the young (MODY) is a highly heterogeneous monogenic disease that occurs due to β-cell dysfunction. It is divided into different types depending on the gene mutated, and a total of 16 genes have been found to be associated with MODY. However, due to the current lack of understanding of monogenic diabetes, 90% of MODY is currently misdiagnosed and ignored in clinical practice.

Thoracic SMARCA4-deficient undifferentiated tumors (SMARCA4-UTs), recently recognized as a rare malignancy described in the 5th edition of the World Health Organization Classification of Tumors, are characterized by an inactivating mutation in SMARCA4, most commonly found in the mediastinum of male smokers. Despite the aggressive nature and poor prognosis associated with these tumors, which have a median survival time of approximately 4-7 months, no standardized treatment guidelines are currently established. There are currently no reported cases of extended progression-free survival (PFS) in SMARCA4-UT patients treated with surgery and immunotherapy.

Objective: To investigate the incidence of perioperative deep venous thrombosis (DVT) of lower extremities and its risk factors in elderly patients with femoral neck fracture.
Methods: The clinical data of 4 109 elderly patients with femoral neck fracture admitted between August 2012 and November 2020 and met the selection criteria were retrospectively analyzed. Among them, there were 1 137 males and 2 972 females; their ages ranged from 65 to 101 years, with an average of 77.

Background: Upper limb rehabilitation robot is a relatively new technology, but its effectiveness remains debatable due to the inconsistent results of clinical trials. This article intends to assess how upper limb rehabilitation robots help the functional recovery of stroke patients.
Methods: PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases were searched for eligible studies to explore the effect of upper limb rehabilitation robots on upper limb motor function, muscle tone, and daily living activities.

Objective: To compare the survival discrimination of the TNM9th and 8th editions for localized and locally advanced anal squamous cell carcinoma (ASCC) treated nonsurgically and suggest a simple revised staging system with data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database.
Methods: Overall survival (OS) was the primary endpoint. Survival comparisons between the T and N stages and the different staging systems were performed using the Kaplan-Meier method and log-rank test, followed by correlation analysis and variable importance analysis (VIA).

Background: Constipation is a prevalent gastrointestinal disorder affecting approximately 15% of the global population, leading to significant healthcare burdens. Emerging evidence suggests that gut microbiota plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of constipation, although causality remains uncertain due to potential confounding factors in observational studies. This study aims to clarify the causal relationships between gut microbiota and constipation using a bidirectional Mendelian Randomization (MR) approach, which helps to overcome confounding issues and reverse causality.

Patients with severe carbapenem-resistant (CRAB) infections currently face significant treatment challenges. When patients display signs of infection and the clinical suspicion of CRAB infections is high, appropriate treatment should be immediately provided. However, current treatment plans and clinical data for CRAB are limited.

Background: There are currently three strategies for the duration of low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) lead-in before direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) in patients with acute pulmonary embolism (PE): one is at least 5 days, the other is at least 3 days and the last one is less than 3 days. Which one is the best is yet unknown.
Aim: To explore optimal initial duration of LMWH lead-in before DOACs for short-term outcomes of hospitalized patients with non-high-risk acute PE.

Background: The role of recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (rhG-CSF), especially the long-acting factor in the development of cancer-associated venous thromboembolism (VTE) in lung cancer patients who undergo chemotherapy has been understudied, although the use of rhG-CSF has been reported to be associated with an increased risk of VTE.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 1,673 lung cancer patients who underwent hospitalized chemotherapy. We performed propensity score matching to offset confounding factors related to cancer-associated VTE development and classified the patients into short-acting (N = 273), long-acting (N = 273), and no rhG-CSF (N = 273) groups.

This work was to demonstrate the relationship between serum 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (1,25(OH)2D3), serum phosphorus (SP), and parathyroid hormone (PTH) and parathyroid function after central lymph node dissection (CLND) in patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). 200 PTC patients after CLND were included, who were rolled into a control group (CG) (n = 89 cases without hypoparathyroidism) and an observation group (OG) (n = 111 cases with complicated hypoparathyroidism). The 1,25(OH)2D3, SP, and PTH levels were detected, and the diagnostic effect of these indicators was assessed.

Prothrombin time/international normalized ratio (PT/INR) is related to both antithrombotic effect and risk of bleeding. Its role in the prediction of venous thromboembolism (VTE) recurrence and bleeding for patients with acute VTE who undergo direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) treatment is unclear, despite previous studies revealed some association between them. The predictive efficiency of INR for VTE recurrence and bleeding were analyzed in a retrospective cohort with VTE patients who underwent DOACs treatment.
