Exploring the Role of Ccn3 in Type III Cell of Mice Taste Buds.

J Neurochem

January 2025

Department of Oral Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Okayama University, Okayama, Japan.

Different taste cells express unique cell-type markers, enabling researchers to distinguish them and study their functional differentiation. Using single-cell RNA-Seq of taste cells in mouse fungiform papillae, we found that Cellular Communication Network Factor 3 (Ccn3) was highly expressed in Type III taste cells but not in Type II taste cells. Ccn3 is a protein-coding gene involved in various biological processes, such as cell proliferation, angiogenesis, tumorigenesis, and wound healing.

College of Animal Medicine, Gansu Agricultural University, China; College of Zoology, Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University, China. Electronic address:

Background: Ruminants possess a rich repository of natural antimicrobial peptides(AMPs) within their bodies, surpassing those found in humans and mice. These peptides, including Defensin, Cathelicidin, and Lysozyme, are integral to the body's innate and adaptive immune responses and represent promising alternatives to antibiotics with significant application potential.

Results: In the present study, we conducted a systematic analysis of 40 Defensins, 38 Cathelicidins, and 61 Lysozymes in cattle and sheep.

Dysmorphisms, or physical abnormalities in appearance, can vary in frequency and severity among individuals with inherited metabolic disorders (IMD). The prevalence of dysmorphisms in these disorders can range from rare occurrences to more common features, depending on the specific disorder and its genetic characteristics. It is important to note that not all individuals with IMDs will exhibit dysmorphic features, and the presence of such features may vary widely among different types of metabolic disorders.

Effect of cooking conditions on sea urchin dumplings.

Food Chem

December 2024

SKL of Marine Food Processing & Safety Control, National Engineering Research Center of Seafood, School of Food Science and Technology, Dalian Polytechnic University, Dalian 116034, China. Electronic address:

The objective of this study was to investigate the changes in flavour and taste of sea urchin dumplings subjected to different cooking methods, utilising gas chromatography-ion mobility spectrometry (GC-IMS), electronic tongue (E-tongue) analysis, free amino acid content assessment and sensory evaluation. The GC-IMS technique successfully detected 69 volatile compounds in the skin and 60 volatile compounds in the filling of the boiled dumplings. From the established fingerprints, it was found that there were significant differences in the flavour compounds of dumplings skins among the groups.

We used our mouse papillomavirus (MmuPV1) model to test the hypothesis that two primary psychoactive ingredients of marijuana, Δ-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD), promote papillomavirus persistence in the oral mucosa of infected mice. We conducted intraperitoneal (ip) injections of a moderate dose (3 mg/kg) of either CBD and/or THC in both male and female athymic nude mice and followed the mice up to 20 weeks post-infection. These doses are comparable to what is estimated for human conventional cannabis consumption.
