On 17th June 2017, a 50 years old man with refractory gout was admitted in our hospital. During the treatment, he was accompanied by intermittent fever (39 to 40 ℃) of unknown origin for 60 days and gastrointestinal bleeding, with difficult wound repair. After comprehensive treatment of thorough debridement, vacuum sealing drainage, skin graft, skin flap repair, and drug administration, the patient was discharged fully recovered on post hospitalization day 104.

Although the remaining nerve tissue can regenerate and partly restore erectile function when the cavernous nerve is compressed/severed and function lost, the limited regenerative ability of these nerve tissues often fails to meet clinical needs. Adipose-derived stem cells are easy to obtain and culture, and can differentiate into neural cells. Their proliferation rate is easy to control and they may be used to help restore injured cavernous nerve function.

PCL (poly-caprolactone) nanofibers have good biocompatibility and high porosity, which are usually utilized for application in wound dressings. However, wound healing could be hindered by the overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and different factors. Pure nanofibers cannot satisfy these requirements of wound healing.

BACKGROUND Prostatic calculi are common in urological treatments. Our major purpose in the present study was to explore the occurrence and composition of prostatic calculi, and investigate the effect of calcium oxalate (CaOx) on clusterin expression and lower urinary tract symptom (LUTS) in prostatitis and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) patients with calculi. MATERIAL AND METHODS From December 2016 to January 2017, a total of 79 prostatitis patients aged more than 50 years were enrolled.

MicroRNA (miRNA) are significant regulators of neuropathic pain development and neuroinflammation can contribute a lot to the progression of neuropathic pain. Recently, miR-98 has been reported to be involved in various diseases. However, little is known about the role of miR-98 in neuropathic pain development and neuroinflammation.

The change and fixation of dressing are difficult in patients with burn in special sites of perineum, buttocks, and bilateral thighs. Therefore, we designed and made stretch pants by ourselves for dressing fixation after dressing change in patients with burns in abdomen, buttocks, and bilateral thighs. The stretch pants are made by cutting and splicing elastic fabric according to perimeters of abdomen and legs.

Background: It has been demonstrated that thioredoxin-interacting protein (TXNIP) interacted with NACHT, LRR and PYD domains-containing protein 3 (NLRP3) and participated in the NLRP3 inflammasome activation. Our previous study has demonstrated that in human peritoneal mesothelial cells (HPMCs), exposure to high glucose-based peritoneal dialysis (PD) solutions induced mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, activation of NLRP3 inflammasome and IL-1β expression. This study aimed to investigate the effect of high glucose-based PD fluids on the TXNIP expression and the underlying mechanisms by which TXNIP-NLRP3 interaction mediates the inflammatory injury to HPMCs in high glucose-based PD fluids conditions.

Viruses have adopted diverse strategies to suppress antiviral responses. Hepatitis B virus (HBV), a virus that is prevalent worldwide, manipulates the host's innate immune system to evade scavenging. It is reported that the hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg) can interfere with NF-κB activity, which then leads to high viral loads, while HBV with the G1896A mutation remains infectious without the production of HBeAg but can induce more severe proinflammatory response and liver damage.

Endometriosis (EM) is one of the most common gynaecological disorder affecting women in their reproductive age. Mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of EM remains poorly understood, however inflammatory responses have been reported to be significantly involved. The efficacy of 6-shogaol on proliferation of endometriotic lesions and inflammatory pathways in experimentally-induced EM model was explored in this study.

BACKGROUND Laryngeal cancer is one of the major malignancies of the neck and head and is responsible for considerable mortality across the globe. The treatments for laryngeal cancer mainly involve surgical interventions followed by chemotherapy. However, due to unsatisfactory results, constant relapses and the adverse effects associated with the currently used drugs, there is pressing need to develop effective drug options for treatment of laryngeal cancer.

To observe the clinical effects of sequential treatments of pulsed dye laser (PDL) and ablative fractional carbon dioxide laser on early stage hypertrophic burn scars. From January 2016 to December 2017, 221 patients with 228 hypertrophic scars in all parts of body within 6 months post healing, conforming to the study criteria and treated in our department, were included in this prospective study. They were first treated by PDL, repeated at an interval of one month until the vascularity score of scar fell below 2 points, and then treated by ablative fractional carbon dioxide laser, repeated at an interval of 3 months.

Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic degenerative joint disease characterized by cartilage degradation driven by proinflammatory cytokines; meanwhile, statins display anti-inflammatory effects. Here we assessed the effects of pravastatin on inflammatory rat chondrocytes and explored the underlying mechanism.
Methods: Rat articular chondrocytes were pretreated with pravastatin and subsequently stimulated with IL-1β.

Cadherin-17 (CDH17), a structurally unique member of the non-classical cadherin family, is associated with poor survival, cell proliferation, and metastasis in colorectal cancer. However, the role of CDH17 in the apoptosis and autophagy of colorectal cancer cells remains unclear. Here, we aimed to investigate the effect of CDH17 knockdown on autophagy and apoptosis in colorectal cancer cells.

Dicer is an essential enzyme that processes micro (mi)-RNA precursors into mature miRNAs, and serves a critical role in cancer development and progression by regulating gene expression. However, the role of Dicer in cisplatin‑mediated apoptosis and chemotherapy resistance in epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) cells is poorly understood. In the present study, Dicer was expressed at low levels in cisplatin‑resistant A2780 cells when compared with parental cells.

Background/aims: The phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase -AKT (PI3K-AKT) is an important intracellular signal pathway in regulating cell proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis. In previous studies, we've demonstrated that PI3K-AKT pathway protects cardiomyocytes from ischemic and hypoxic apoptosis through mitochondrial function. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying hypoxia-induced cardiomyocyte apoptosis via PI3K-AKT pathway remain ill-defined.

In May 2015, a child with absence of most of the five fingers with scar formation after healing of a left hand burn wound hospitalized in our burn ward. According to the free online design program for making artificial limbs using three-dimensional printing technology on the internet, a utility artificial hand, most of which made of plastic parts, was designed for the child and printed by a three-dimensional printer. The child was instructed to wear and use the utility artificial hand, including driving the finger part of the utility artificial hand to make a grasping action by flexing the wrist joint.

Auricular keloids are common following ear piercing, infection, trauma, burns, or spontaneously, and they are highly resistant for treatment and are followed by severe cosmetic problems, especially for patients with bulky auricular keloids. The risk of recurrence and the need to return to the normal anatomy of external ear following resection is a challenge to the plastic surgeon. The authors present their experience of treating bulky auricular keloids with surgical excision, followed by immediate postoperative radiotherapy and intralesional steroid injection.

Under certain condition, wet cement can cause skin chemical burns, which belongs to alkaline burns. As the symptoms are insidious in onset, the patients may be initially unaware of the injury until several hours later. It often causes full-thickness burns especially in knees, the lower limbs, and ankles.
