Bone regeneration of critical-sized bone defects (CSBDs) with biomimetic collagen-based aerogels remains a significant challenge due to the oxidative stress on the microenvironment. The excessive oxidative stress could induce apoptosis and dysfunction of host-derived cells. Astaxanthin (ATX) exhibits excellent antioxidant ability to block free radical chain reactions.

Biomineralization of natural polymers in simulated body fluid (SBF) can significantly improve its biocompatibility, osteoconductivity, and osteoinductivity because of the hydroxyapatite (HAp) deposition. Nevertheless, the superficial HAp crystal deposition hamper the deep inorganic ions exchange in porous microgels, thus gradually leading to a nonuniform regeneration effect. Inspired by the pearl forming process, this article uses the microarray chips to fabricate the multi-layer mineralized graphene oxide (GO)-collagen (Col)-hydroxyapatite (HAp) microgel, denoted as MMGCH.

The circular RNA, hsa_circ_0057452, is highly expressed in keloids, but its specific mechanism of action remains unknown. The levels of hsa_circ_0057452, microRNA (miR)-1225-3p, and AF4/FMR2 family member 4 (AFF4) in keloid tissues and keloid fibroblasts (KFs) were determined using quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction. Changes in KFs viability, proliferation, apoptosis, and migration were investigated using the cell counting kit-8, bromodeoxyuridine, flow cytometry, and Transwell assays.

Background: Diabetes significantly delays wound healing through oxidative stress, inflammation and impaired re-epithelialization that lead to defective regulation of the healing process, although the related mechanism remains unclear. Here, we aim to investigate the potential role and mechanism for the beneficial effect of betulinic acid (BA) on diabetic wound healing.
Methods: The molecular effect of BA on hyperglycemia-mediated gene expression, oxidative stress, inflammation and glucose uptake was evaluated in endothelial, fibroblast and muscle cells.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a significant cause of human death in the world. Recently, it is found that midazolam can modulate miRs to participate in HCC progression. This research project was designed to elucidate the impacts of midazolam and miR-217 on HCC cell metastasis and apoptosis.

Background And Aims: Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is a prevalent cardiovascular disease. Understanding current and future disease burden of PAD and its attributable risk factors is critical for developing prevention measures targeting PAD and associated complications.
Methods: We analyzed the death burden of PAD and the trends of six risk factors from 1990 to 2019 using the updated 2019 Global Burden of Disease study database, and projected the next decade death burden using a Bayesian age-period-cohort (BAPC) model.

A major cause of treatment failure in advanced colon cancer is resistance to chemotherapy. p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) has been associated with cellular apoptosis and plays an important role in multidrug resistance (MDR) in cancer cells. In the present study the effect of p38 MAPK on the sensitivity of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU)-resistant SW480 (SW480/5-FU) human colon cancer cells to noscapine was investigated.

Impaired wound healing is one of a variety of severe diabetic complications and involves many factors, including consistent oxidative stress, prolonged inflammation, impaired angiogenesis, and delayed re-epithelialization. Despite the severe negative impacts that impaired wound healing has on patients' lives, detailed mechanisms and effective therapies are still not fully developed. In this study, we aim to investigate the potential effects and mechanisms of topical administration of pterostilbene and resveratrol on burn wound healing in diabetes.

Burn wound healing often shows a certain degree of pigmentation disorder. It may not only cause cosmetic and psychological issues affecting patient's normal social activities, but also increase risk of skin cancer or photoaging. Although normal skin pigmentation is fairly well studied, the mechanism that leads to dyspigmentation after burn injury needs to be further explored.
