Cause and Management of Suture-related Ocular Complications after Buried-suture Double-eyelid Blepharoplasty.

J Plast Reconstr Aesthet Surg

December 2021

Beijing Institute of Ophthalmology, Beijing Tongren Eye Center, Beijing Tongren Hospital of Capital Medical University, Beijing Key Laboratory of Ophthalmology and Visual Science, Beijing, China.

Background: Buried-suture double-eyelid blepharoplasty is very popular in Asia, especially in China, but there are few reports related to the cause, management, and prevention of suture-related complications of corneal injury and other damages to the eye. The study aims to determine the cause, management, and prevention of suture-related complications after buried-suture double-eyelid blepharoplasty.

Methods: A retrospective study was conducted from January 2016 to January 2019 on 12 patients with corneal and other injuries to the eye after they underwent buried-suture double-eyelid blepharoplasty.

Comparison of ocular axis and corneal diameter between entropion and non-entropion eyes in children with congenital glaucoma.

World J Clin Cases

June 2021

Department of Ophthalmology, Beijing Tongren Eye Center, Beijing Tongren Hospital of Capital Medical University, Beijing Key Laboratory of Ophthalmology and Visual Science, Beijing 100730, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Children with congenital glaucoma often develop acquired epiblepharon in the lower eyelid, leading to entropion and corneal damage.
  • A study of 15 patients found that those with lower eyelid entropion had significantly longer ocular axes and larger corneal diameters compared to those without.
  • The findings suggest that rapid growth in these ocular measurements may be a key factor in the development of lower eyelid entropion in kids with congenital glaucoma, indicating a need for careful monitoring in such cases.

Article Synopsis
  • Low vision rehabilitation aims to enhance the use of remaining vision and teach skills for daily functioning, helping visually impaired individuals gain independence and participate actively in society.
  • A meta-analysis of 52 randomized controlled trials involving 6,239 participants demonstrated that low vision rehabilitation significantly improved vision-related quality of life, visual functioning, and self-esteem compared to inactive controls.
  • Although rehabilitation showed benefits for daily living skills compared to active controls, it did not significantly improve health-related quality of life or adaptation to vision loss compared to inactive interventions.

Cause analysis and reoperation effect of failure and recurrence after epiblepharon correction in children.

World J Clin Cases

December 2020

Department of Ophthalmology, Beijing Tongren Eye Center, Beijing Tongren Hospital of Capital Medical University, Beijing Key Laboratory of Ophthalmology and Visual Science, Beijing 100730, China.

Background: In children, it is common to see failure and recurrence in the correction of epiblepharon and to have reoperation due to obvious irritation symptoms and corneal injury.

Aim: To explore the causes of failure and recurrence after epiblepharon correction in children, to remove accurately redundant epiblepharon and orbicularis oculi muscle in patients the cilia-everting suture technique combined with lid margin splitting in some patients due to inverted lashes in the medial part of the eyelid, and to observe the therapeutic effect.

Methods: From 2015 to 2019, in the Outpatient Department of Ophthalmology of Beijing Tongren Hospital, 22 children (40 eyes) with epiblepharon, aged 5-12 years, were treated due to correction failure and recurrence.

Background: Persistent host immune responses initiated by oral bacteria protect host against infection but may also elicit the process of sustained periodontal inflammation and subsequent alveolar bone loss. Interleukin-10 (IL-10), an anti-inflammatory cytokine, can downregulate pro-inflammatory cytokine and inhibit neutrophil migration in inflammation. IL-10-expressing regulatory B cells (B10) is termed by negatively regulating immune response through IL-10 and are mainly restricted in CD19 CD1d CD5 B cells in mice.

In cataract surgery, it is often found that patients infected hepatitis B virus (HBV) are likely to suffer from more pain than other patients. In order to assess the inflammation status of the aqueous humor in the eyes of cataract patients infected with HBV. RayBio Human Inflammation Array was used to assay aqueous humor samples collected from 14 eyes of patients infected with HBV and 14 eyes of cataract patients without HBV infection (the controls) during the cataract surgery.

TGF-β regulation of microRNA miR-497-5p and ocular lens epithelial cell mesenchymal transition.

Sci China Life Sci

December 2020

Beijing Tongren Eye Center, Beijing Tongren Hospital of Capital Medical University; Beijing Key Laboratory of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences, Beijing Institute of Ophthalmology, Beijing, 100005, China.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of a human lens microRNA (miR-497-5p) in regulating epithelialmesenchymal transition (EMT) under the control of transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β). A microRNA array was used to evaluate the microRNA profiles of untreated and TGF-β-treated human lens epithelial cells in culture. This showed that TGF-β treatment led to the upregulation of 96 microRNAs and downregulation of 39 microRNAs.
