Protective Effects of Curcumin-Regulated Intestinal Epithelial Autophagy on Inflammatory Bowel Disease in Mice.

Gastroenterol Res Pract

April 2022

Department of Digestive Internal Medicine, Tonglu First people's Hospital, Tonglu, Hangzhou 311500, China.

Objective: This study was aimed at exploring the ameliorating effect of curcumin (Cur) on inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in mice induced by 3% dextran sodium sulfate (DSS) by regulating intestinal epithelial cell autophagy.

Methods: 45 BALB/c mice were randomly divided into three groups: control group, DSS group, and Cur group, with 15 mice in each group. Expect for the control group, 3% DSS was freely drunk by the mice for 7 days to induce acute IBD, and the Cur group was given Cur gavage treatment.

Correlation of the detection rate of upper GI cancer with artificial intelligence score: results from a multicenter trial (with video).

Gastrointest Endosc

June 2022

Department of Endoscopy, The Cancer Hospital of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Zhejiang Cancer Hospital), Institute of Basic Medicine and Cancer (IBMC), Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hangzhou, China.

Background And Aims: The quality of EGD is a prerequisite for a high detection rate of upper GI lesions, especially early gastric cancer. Our previous study showed that an artificial intelligence system, named intelligent detection endoscopic assistant (IDEA), could help to monitor blind spots and provide an operation score during EGD. Here, we verified the effectiveness of IDEA to help evaluate the quality of EGD in a large-scale multicenter trial.

Purpose: Nuclear ubiquitous casein and cyclin-dependent kinases substrate (NUCKS) overexpression has been reported in various types of cancers. The purpose of this study is to clarify the role of NUCKS, underlying the involvement of non-small-cell lung cancer, in the progression of lung cancer.

Methods: The small interfering ribonucleic acid (siRNA) of NUCKS was transfected into a lung cancer cell line (NCI-H460, A549, NCI-H1299 and NCI-H1975).

Brain-type glycogen phosphorylase (PYGB) has been correlated with the progression of various human malignancies; however, its effects and regulatory mechanisms in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) are still unclear. We used Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and qRT-PCR to verify that the protein and mRNA expression levels of PYGB are up-regulated in both NSCLC cell lines and tissues. The expression of PYGB was positively related to TNM stage, positive lymph node metastasis, and poor prognosis in patients with NSCLC.
