This study investigates the influence of the sample inherent temperature on the line-scan profile for a silicon trapezoid line with different sidewall angles by Monte-Carlo simulation. This study demonstrates that the profile varies with temperature, particularly focusing on the 'shoulder', which becomes more pronounced with larger sidewall angles. The contrast of the secondary electron profile increases at low primary electron energy but decreases at relatively high PE energy as the temperature rises.

Article Synopsis
  • The quaternion cubature Kalman filter (QCKF) is widely used for attitude determination and positioning in UAV applications, but relies on the assumption of white Gaussian noise, which is not always present in real-world data.
  • Actual GNSS/SINS-IADPS data often involves non-Gaussian noise and has constraints related to quaternion normalization, leading to potential inaccuracies in the QCKF's estimates.
  • The proposed Gaussian sum quaternion constrained cubature Kalman filter (GSQCCKF) addresses these issues by using a Gaussian mixture model for noise approximation and a two-step projection method for quaternion normalization, resulting in improved estimation accuracy under non-Gaussian noise conditions.

We systematically investigated the stable configurations and catalytic activity in the Oxygen Reduction Reaction (ORR) of graphene co-doped with boron and nitrogen (B-N) using first-principles methods. Compared to single B/N doping, co-doping with BN is energetically favored. We found that intermediate species of ORR process adsorb on boron atoms, which act as catalytic sites.

This paper aims to create a unified model that effectively combines continuous 2-dimensional elements and discrete components to capture the nonlinear characteristics and failure mechanisms of solid and perforated masonry infill panels. Given that masonry infill behavior is primarily influenced by shear deformations, an equivalent model is developed by using multiple small square panels arranged diagonally and interconnected by two-component springs, encompassing axial and shear behavior at their intersections. For the sake of simplicity, the divided panels are assumed to behave elastically, with plasticity concentrated only in the axial component of the connector springs.

Electrochemical activation usually accompanies in situ atom rearrangement forming new catalytic sites with higher activity due to reconstructed atomic clusters or amorphous phases with abundant dangling bonds, vacancies, and defects. By harnessing the pre-catalytic process of reconstruction, a multilevel structure of CuNi alloy nanoparticles encapsulated in N-doped carbon (CuNi nanoalloy@N/C) transforms into a highly active compound of Ni-doped CuO nanocluster supported on (N/O-C) co-doped C. Both the exposure of accessible active sites and the activity of individual active sites are greatly improved after the pre-catalytic reconstruction.

Health Management & Physical Examination Center, Xiangyang Central Hospital, Affiliated Hospital of Hubei University of Arts and Science, Xiangyang 441021, China. Electronic address:

Objective: The current models of estimating vascular age (VA) primarily rely on the regression label expressed with chronological age (CA), which does not account individual differences in vascular aging (IDVA) that are difficult to describe by CA. This may lead to inaccuracies in assessing the risk of cardiovascular disease based on VA. To address this limitation, this work aims to develop a new method for estimating VA by considering IDVA.

Electronic address:

Glycogen, a complex branched glucose polymer and a blood-sugar reservoir in animals, comprises small β particles joined together into composite α particles. In diabetic animals, α particles fragment more easily than those in healthy animals. Finding evidence for or against postulated mechanisms for α-particle formation is thus important for diabetes research.

Vanadium oxides have aroused attention as cathode materials in aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) due to their low cost and high safety. However, low ion diffusion and vanadium dissolution often lead to capacity decay and deteriorating stability during cycling. Herein, vanadium dioxides (VO) nanobelts are coated with a single-atom cobalt dispersed N-doped carbon (Co-N-C) layer via a facile calcination strategy to form Co-N-C layer coated VO nanobelts (VO@Co-N-C NBs) for cathodes in AZIBs.

January 2024

School of Electronic Engineering, Tongling University, Tongling, 244061, Anhui, P.R. China.

The NH synthesis from N plays an important role in the ecological cycle and industrial production. Different from industrial NH synthesis with high pollution and energy consumption, electrocatalytic NH synthesis is favored because of its environmental protection, energy saving, ambient reaction conditions and other characteristics. However, due to the low efficiency and poor reaction selectivity of the existing electrocatalysts, which can not be used actually, the development of new electrocatalysts for nitrogen reduction reaction (NRR) is particularly urgent.

Catalytic Growth of High-Performance Graphite-like Carbon Films on a Nitrided Substrate: Experimental Study and First-Principles Calculations.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

October 2023

Key Laboratory of Green Fabrication and Surface Technology of Advanced Metal Materials, Ministry of Education, Anhui University of Technology, Maanshan 243002, PR China.

This study reports a novel process for the fabrication of high-performance graphite-like carbon (GLC) films on nitrided substrates through successive steps in a plasma nitriding system. Unlike films fabricated via conventional dual treatments (nitriding + film deposition), here-fabricated GLC films were grown on the surface of nitrided steel via a catalytic reaction. A transition zone having a nanocrystalline and amorphous structure was observed at the interface between the nitrided substrate and GLC films, which increased the durability of GLC films because this structure enhanced the adhesion of GLC films on the nitrided substrate, improving resistance to spallation and wear.
