Objective: To explore the relationship between glucose metabolism and acute radiation enteritis from chemoradiotherapy for rectal cancer.
Methods: In this retrospective study, the clinical data of 75 rectal cancer patients who received concurrent chemoradiotherapy in Binzhou Second People's Hospital from February 2019 to February 2022 were collected and analyzed. According to the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG)/European Organization for Research on Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) radiation response grading criteria, the patients were classified into four groups with different glucose metabolism statuses: NGR (normal glucose regulation) group, IFG (impaired fasting glucose) group, IGT (impaired glucose tolerance) group, and DM (diabetes mellitus) group.

Objectives: Gap junction protein alpha 5 (GJA5), also termed connexin 40 (Cx40), exerts a pivotal role in the mediation of vascular wall tone and two closely-linked polymorphisms in the promoter (-44G>A and +71A>G) have been associated with enhanced susceptibility to essential hypertension (EH) in men. The present investigation aimed to ascertain whether a novel common polymorphism within the upstream regulatory region of (transcript 1B), -26A>G (rs10465885), confers an increased risk of EH.
Methods: For this investigation, 380 unrelated patients with EH and 396 unrelated normotensive individuals employed as control persons were enrolled from the Chinese Han-ethnicity population, and their genotypes and plasma renin concentrations were determined by Sanger sequencing and an automated chemiluminescent immunoassay, respectively.

Both autotaxin (ATX) and Forkhead Box M1 (FOXM1) have been commonly recognized as oncogenes in multiple types of human malignancies. However, the expression and biological functions of ATX in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), and its correlation with FOXM1 are poorly understood. The present study aimed to investigate their correlation and biological consequences in PDAC development.

Neuropathic pain (NPP) is deemed as a potential risk of stroke; however, recent pieces of evidence showed that calcitonin gene-related peptide is involving in pain progression as well as organ protection. The mechanisms underlying the neuroprotection of calcitonin gene-related peptide are yet poorly described with respect to stroke. The present study showed that the elevated level of calcitonin gene-related peptide-induced by NPP exerts a protective effect against stroke in rats, which was further confirmed in vivo and vitro via mitigation of inflammatory response, inhibition of neuronal cell apoptosis, and increase in regional cerebral blood flow.

There are increasing invasive fungal infections associated with non-albicans, which causes mortal infections in immune deficiency population. is a major non-albicans that exhibits intrinsic resistance to fluconazole and makes clinical treatment difficult. Previous studies revealed that C-type lectin receptors (CLRs) Dectin-1 plays critical roles in host defense against infections.

Here, a synergistic treatment platform with plasmonic-magnetic hybrid nanoparticle (lipids, doxorubicin (DOX), gold nanorods, iron oxide nanocluster (LDGI))-loaded mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) for photoacoustic imaging, targeted photothermal therapy, and chemotherapy for TNBC is developed. LDGI can be efficiently taken up into the stem cells with good biocompatibility to maintain the cellular functions.

RasGAP SH3-domain-Binding Protein 1 (G3BP1) has been implicated in cell growth, migration, and metastasis of some cancers, yet its function in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains to be explored. In the present study, we reported that G3BP1 was upregulated in HCC tissues compared with adjacent non-cancerous liver tissues both in mRNA and protein levels, and its high expression was significantly correlated with poor prognosis of HCC patients. Functional analyses demonstrated that forced expression of G3BP1 in HCC cells promoted cell migration, and silenced expression of G3BP1 by RNA interference caused opposite effects.

The Forkhead Box M1 (FOXM1) transcription factor plays important roles in tumorigenesis and tumor metastasis in multiple human carcinomas. However, the underlying mechanisms for FOXM1 function remain to be classified. In the present study, we employed quantitative proteomic approach to search new downstream targets of FOXM1 in breast cancer MDA-MB-231 cells.

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) has complicated pathogenic factors. Studies showed that DR belongs to chronic inflammatory disease, and retinal endothelial cells oxidation by free radicals is one of its mechanisms. Pterostilbene, as the homologous derivative of resveratrol, has obvious antioxidant effect.

Inorganic pyrophosphatase (PPA1) is an enzyme which has been found to be upregulated in various tumors, yet its profile in gastrointestinal cancers has not systemically investigated. In present study, gastrointestinal tissue microarrays were used to evaluate PPA1 expression and the association of PPA1 expression with clinical outcomes was determined for patients with gastric cancer by immunohistochemistry. Overexpression of PPA1 was observed in cancers of the esophagus, stomach, and pancreaticobiliary system.

Primary aldosteronism (PA) represents major cause of secondary hypertension, strongly associated with high cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Aldosterone excess may influence mineral homeostasis, through higher urinary calcium (Ca) excretion reducing calcium plasma levels and leading to secondary increase of parathyrine (PTH). The purpose of the present study is to clarify the association of serum PTH and Ca levels with PA using a metaanalysis approach.

Prdx1 is an important member of peroxiredoxins (Prdxs) regulating various cellular signaling and differentiation. Prdx1 confers an aggressive survival phenotype of cancer cells and drug-resistance, yet its role in hilar cholangiocarcinoma is not fully investigated. In present study, we detected the expression profile of Prdx1 in 88 hilar cholangiocarcinoma by tissue arrays and immunohistochemistry.

Hexokinase 1 (HK1) and pyruvate kinase M2 (PKM2) are two key regulators in glycosis and oncogenic markers in cancers. In the present study, we investigated the expression profile by Western blotting and immunohistochemistry and determined their prognostic values in the gastric cancer. Expression of HK1 and PKM2 was remarkably increased in gastric cancer tissues and was significantly associated lymphatic metastasis and advanced TNM staging.

Aplastic anemia therapy remains difficult, due to lack of effective treatment regimens. In recent years, Huangqi injection for the adjunctive therapy of aplastic anemia has been reported in many clinical trials. Considering that Huangqi injection may be a novel approach to aplastic anemia treatment, we conducted a meta-analysis of clinical controlled trials to assess the clinical value of Huangqi injection in the treatment of aplastic anemia.

Titanium mesh cage (TMC) was introduced recently to provide anterior structural support and interbody fusion without the need to harvest bone from the iliac crest. Because of its good mechanical behavior and satisfactory clinical outcomes, TMC is commonly used for lumbar burst fractures. Here, we present a female patient who underwent a posterior-anterior L4 corpectomy with TMC placement and developed a cage fracture after 42 months.

Twenty-seven male white rabbits were randomly divided into normal control group A, high fat group B and high fat + endothelial injury operation group C (each group was 9), we measured lipids and obtained tissues from different cerebral arteries including Bilateral common carotid artery (CCA), Internal carotid artery (ICA), middle cerebral artery (MCA) and vertebral artery (VA). Pathological analysis were done, western blot analysis was used to detect the expression of HSP70 in CCA and MCA.
