Background: Purpureocillium lilacinum is a type of fungus that is found all over the world and is known for its ability to help control pests, especially those that harm plants. Generally, this fungus does not cause serious problems for healthy people, but it can lead to severe infections in individuals with weakened immune systems. In this report, we discuss a rare case where a healthy person developed an infection after being exposed to a biopesticide containing this fungus.

Background: Zinner syndrome is a rare congenital malformation of the male genitourinary system, characterized by a triad: seminal vesicle cyst, unilateral renal agenesis, and ipsilateral ejaculatory duct obstruction. The etiology of this uncommon disease remains largely elusive; however, genetic mutations may contribute to its development. In this report, we present a case of symptomatic Zinner syndrome that was surgically treated, alongside an investigation into the potential genetic basis of the syndrome via whole exome sequencing.

Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) radiologically displayed as subsolid nodules (SSNs) is prevalent. Nevertheless, the precise clinical management of SSNs necessitates a profound understanding of their tumorigenesis and progression. Here, we analyze 66 LUAD displayed as SSNs covering 3 histological stages including adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS), minimally invasive adenocarcinoma (MIA) and invasive adenocarcinoma (IAC) by incorporating genomics, proteomics, phosphoproteomics and glycoproteomics.

Genome sequencing (GS) refers to a technology that comprehensively and systematically detects the DNA sequences of an individual's nuclear and mitochondrial genomes. It aims to identify genetic variants and investigate their roles in human health and disease progression. As an emerging diagnostic tool, GS offers significant support for clinical diagnosis due to its high throughput, accuracy, and comprehensiveness.

The Physalacriaceae family comprises numerous saprophytic edible and medicinal fungi with significant ecological and economic importance. However, the lack of high-quality genomic data has hindered systematic studies of this family. Here, we report the chromosome-level genome assembly of Cylindrobasidium torrendii, a species identified in China, using a combination of Illumina, PacBio HiFi, and Hi-C sequencing technologies.

Gallbladder cancer (GBC) frequently mimics gallbladder benign lesions (GBBLs) in radiological images, leading to preoperative misdiagnoses. To address this challenge, we initiated a prospective, multicenter clinical trial (ChicCTR2100049249) and proposed a multimodal, non-invasive diagnostic model to distinguish GBC from GBBLs. A total of 301 patients diagnosed with gallbladder-occupying lesions (GBOLs) from 11 medical centers across 7 provinces in China were enrolled and divided into a discovery cohort and an independent external validation cohort.

The efficacy and safety of recombinant human soluble thrombomodulin (rhTM) and antithrombin (AT) in DIC is still debatable. Therefore, we used a fixed-effects model to conduct a comprehensive evaluation and meta-analysis to examine the safety and efficacy of AT or rhTM administration for treating DIC.

Treatment options for patients with recurrent and/or metastatic squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (R/M SCCHN) have evolved over the past decade and have helped improve survival outcomes for patients. Most national and regional guidelines recommend first-line therapy with an immune checkpoint inhibitor (with or without chemotherapy) or a cetuximab-based regimen, by assessment of expression levels of the biomarker programmed cell death-ligand 1 (PD-L1). However, patient- and tumor-specific factors, including the patient's age, comorbidities, performance status, and tumor burden, kinetics and spread also need to be considered to optimize treatment in the first line.

This study explores the design and performance of origami robotic grippers fabricated through hard-soft coupled multimaterial three-dimensional (3D) printing. We evaluate the impact of design parameters on the kinematic behavior and mechanical functionality of the gripper. A kinematic model is employed to characterize the reachable workspace and motion capabilities, revealing that variations in geometric parameters significantly influence the origami gripper's performance.

Since most conductive polymers are -type, developing high-performance -type organic-inorganic composite thermoelectric (TE) fibers is a great challenge. Herein, poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS)-coated AgTe nanowires (PC-AgTe NWs) were prepared by a liquid-phase reaction using PEDOT:PSS-coated Te nanowires (PC-Te NWs) as templates, and the PEDOT:PSS/PC-AgTe NWs composite fibers were then prepared by wet spinning. As the content of PC-AgTe NWs increases, the composite fiber changes from -type to -type.

Silica-based aerogels are widely regarded as promising sound-absorbing materials due to their low density and high specific surface area. However, their hard surface and small pores hinder sound wave penetration, resulting in a relatively poor sound absorption performance. To overcome this limitation, our study employs melamine foam (MF) as a scaffold to construct a gradient aerogel composite acoustic absorber.
