Background: Neuropathic pain resulting from spinal cord injury (SCI) is associated with persistent hyperactivity of primary nociceptors. Anandamide (AEA) has been reported to modulate neuronal excitability and synaptic transmission through activation of cannabinoid type-1 receptors (CB1Rs) and transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1). However, the role of AEA and these receptors in the hyperactivity of nociceptors after SCI remains unclear.

Background: Meier-Gorlin syndrome (MGORS) is a rare autosomal inherited form of primordial dwarfism. Additionally, whether growth hormone (GH) treatment can increase the height of children with MGORS is unclear.

The experiences of organizational silence among nurses: a qualitative meta-synthesis.

Objective: A growing body of research shows that the organizational silence among nurses not only affects their job satisfaction and performance but also exacerbates their intention to leave their jobs, posing a threat to the long-term stability of the nursing team. Therefore, the aim of this study was to synthesize existing qualitative research to explore the real experiences of nurses' organizational silence behavior and gain insight into the motivations and feelings behind it.

Aim And Objectives: To construct a set of scientific and feasible nursing management protocols for early fluid resuscitation in acute pancreatitis (AP) patients that can be used to guide clinical practice and enhance the treatment efficacy in these patients.

Background: Fluid resuscitation is a key means of early treatment for AP patients and has become a clinical consensus. Nurses are important practitioners of fluid resuscitation, and there is a lack of specific enforceable nursing management programs.

Brain organoid models have greatly facilitated our understanding of human brain development and disease. However, key brain cell types, such as microglia, are lacking in most brain organoid models. Overlooked and underpowered: a meta-research addressing sample size in radiomics prediction models for binary outcomes.

Objectives: To investigate how studies determine the sample size when developing radiomics prediction models for binary outcomes, and whether the sample size meets the estimates obtained by using established criteria.

Methods: We identified radiomics studies that were published from 01 January 2023 to 31 December 2023 in seven leading peer-reviewed radiological journals. We reviewed the sample size justification methods, and actual sample size used.

Relationship between VEGF to PEDF ratio and in-hospital mortality in acute respiratory distress syndrome patients.

Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) has a high mortality rate worldwide; thus, identifying death risk factors related to ARDS is critical for risk stratification in patients with ARDS. In the present study, we conducted a single-center retrospective cohort analysis. Out of 278 patients with ARDS admitted from January 2016 to June 2022, 226 were included in this study.

Association between overt hepatic encephalopathy and liver pathology after transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt creation in cirrhotic patients.

To investigate the association between overt hepatic encephalopathy (OHE) and liver pathology after transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) creation in cirrhotic patients. From July 2015 to April 2024, 73 patients from 4 hospitals in China who received TIPS creation and liver biopsy were retrospectively enrolled in this study. Based on whether OHE occurred within 3 months after TIPS creation, the patients were categorized into OHE (n = 29) and non-OHE (n = 44) groups.

Angiotensin type 1 and type 2 receptors-induced mitochondrial dysfunction promotes ferroptosis in cardiomyocytes.

Previous studies suggest that ferroptosis is involved in cardiovascular diseases. The aim of the present study is to investigate the causal relationship between angiotensin II type 1 and type 2 receptors (ATR) activities and mitochondrial dysfunction in induction of cardiomyocyte ferroptosis. Human AC16 cardiomyocytes were first pre-treated with an ATR blockers, before stimulated with angiotensin II (Ang II) for 24 h.

The current mortality rates for breast cancer underscore the need for better prognostic tools; moreover, LIM and calponin homology domain 1 (LIMCH1), which is a protein with dual roles in cancer, is a promising candidate for investigation. This study employed an integrative approach combining bioinformatics analysis of The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) cohort and clinical immunohistochemistry (IHC) cohort data. We analysed LIMCH1 expression patterns, its associations with clinicopathological features and prognosis, and its impact on the tumour immune microenvironment (TIME).

Autophagy, a conserved catabolic process implicated in a diverse array of human diseases, requires efficient fusion between autophagosomes and lysosomes to function effectively. Recently, SNAP47 has been identified as a key component of the dual-purpose SNARE complex mediating autophagosome-lysosome fusion in both bulk and selective autophagy. However, the spatiotemporal regulatory mechanisms of this SNARE complex remain unknown.

Nursing practices for a patient with ALK-negative anaplastic large cell lymphoma with a cancerous wound: a case report.

Background: Cancerous wounds are a significant challenge in cancer care, reducing the quality of life and affecting psychological well-being.

Purpose: This case report describes a 59-year-old female who developed a severe cancerous wound. The report presents comprehensive nursing measures for patients with cancerous wounds and discusses key nursing factors that promote wound healing.

Study protocol for a single-centre non-inferior double-blinded randomised controlled trial in China comparing the efficacy and safety of high-frequency irreversible electroporation with transurethral resection of the prostate in treating lower urinary tract symptoms and benign prostatic obstruction (the GIANT trial).

Introduction: Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) is the gold standard surgical treatment to lower urinary tract symptoms and benign prostatic obstruction (LUTS/BPO). Although it has been proven to have substantial efficacy in improving functional outcomes, it has shown a high incidence of complications, including transurethral resection syndrome, massive bleeding, urinary incontinence and sexual dysfunction. High-frequency irreversible electroporation (H-FIRE) is a novel non-thermal ablation technique that delivers pulsed high-voltage but low-energy electric current to the cell membrane, thereby leading to cell death.

Gaps in knowledge and management of iron deficiency in heart failure: a nationwide survey of cardiologists in China.

Background: Heart failure (HF) guidelines recommend routine testing for iron deficiency (ID) and, for those with ID, intravenous iron if the left ventricular ejection fraction is <50%. Guideline adherence to these recommendations by cardiologists in China is unknown.

Methods And Results: An independent academic web-based survey was designed and distributed via social networks to cardiologists across China.

Gender differences in systemic inflammatory and nutritional index following radical surgery for advanced gastric cancer.

Objectives: Albumin-globulin ratio (AGR), prognostic nutritional index (PNI), and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) have been validated as prognostic factors for gastric cancer (GC). However, significant gender differences exist in albumin levels and inflammatory cell counts, and further research is required to understand how these differences influence GC prognosis. This study aims to investigate the prognostic impact of nutritional and inflammatory indicators on GC patients undergoing radical surgery, as well as the influence of gender on these indicators' prognostic value.

A chlorin e6 derivative-mediated photodynamic therapy versus doxycycline for moderate-to-severe rosacea: A prospective, randomized, controlled study.

Background: Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is beneficial for managing rosacea, and chlorin e6 derivative-mediated photodynamic therapy (STBF-PDT) has demonstrated efficacy in reducing acne lesions with mild adverse reactions.

Objectives: This study aimed to assess the effectiveness and safety of STBF-PDT for the treatment of moderate-to-severe rosacea.

Methods: In this prospective, randomised, evaluator-blind controlled study, patients with moderate-to-severe rosacea were assigned to receive up to six STBF-PDT sessions or 100 mg of doxycycline daily for eight weeks, followed by a 24-week follow-up.

Association of Residential Greenness and Sleep Duration in Adults: A Prospective Cohort Study in China.

Background: Exposure to residential greenness has been linked with improved sleep duration; however, longitudinal evidence is limited, and the potential mediating effect of ambient fine particulate matter (PM) has yet to be assessed.

Methods: We obtained data for 19,567 participants across seven counties in a prospective cohort in Ningbo, China. Greenness was estimated using Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) within 250-m, 500-m and 1000-m buffer zones, while yearly average PM concentrations were measured using validated land-use regression models, both based on individual residential addresses.

Background & Aims: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is an aggressive malignancy with few effective treatment options. H3Q5ser, a serotonin-based histone modification mediated by transglutaminase 2 (TGM2), affects diverse biological processes, such as neurodevelopment. The role of TGM2-mediated H3Q5ser in HCC progression remains unclear.

Cancer associated fibroblasts (CAFs) are one of the most important stromal cells in the tumor microenvironment, playing a pivotal role in the development, recurrence, metastasis, and immunosuppression of cancer and treatment resistance. Here, we developed a core-shell biomimetic nanosystem termed as FAP-C NPs. This system was comprised of 4 T1 extracellular vesicles fused with a FAP single-chain antibody fragment to form the biomimetic shell, and PLGA nanoparticles loaded with calcipotriol as the core.

Deciphering Consciousness: The Role of Corticothalamocortical Interactions in General Anesthesia.

General anesthesia is administered to millions of individuals each year, however, the precise mechanism by which it induces unconsciousness remains unclear. While some theories suggest that anesthesia shares similarities with natural sleep, targeting sleep-promoting areas and inhibiting arousal nuclei, recent research indicates a more complex process. Emerging evidence highlights the critical role of corticothalamocortical circuits, which are involved in higher cognitive functions, in controlling arousal states and modulating transitions between different conscious states during anesthesia.
