Mounting evidence indicates that gut microbial metabolites are central hubs linking the gut microbiota to atherosclerosis (AS). Gut microbiota enriched with pathobiont bacteria responsible for producing metabolites like trimethylamine N-oxide and phenylacetylglutamine are related to an increased risk of cardiovascular events. Furthermore, gut microbiota enriched with bacteria responsible for producing short-chain fatty acids, indole, and its derivatives, such as indole-3-propionic acid, have demonstrated AS-protective effects.

DNA methylation at age-related CpG (AR-CpG) sites holds significant promise for forensic age estimation. However, somatic models perform poorly in semen due to unique methylation dynamics during spermatogenesis, and current studies are constrained by the limited coverage of methylation microarrays. This study aimed to identify novel semen-specific AR-CpG sites using double-enzyme reduced representation bisulfite sequencing (dRRBS) and validate these markers, alongside previously reported sites and neighboring CpGs, using bisulfite amplicon sequencing (BSAS) to develop robust age estimation models.

A 57-year-old female presented with a chief complaint of cough, with productive yellow sputum particularly severe in the morning. Bronchoscopy revealed inflammatory changes in both main bronchi, with abundant white purulent secretions and necrotic material adhering to the luminal surface. Histopathological examination showed chronic inflammatory changes in the mucosal tissue, with mild hyperplasia of the local squamous epithelium and evidence of keratinization in the surrounding area, consistent with a diagnosis of tracheal mucosal keratosis.

Olfactory dysfunction (OD) can have serious consequences as it hinders individuals from detecting important warning signals like smoke, spoiled food, and gas leaks. This can significantly impact their nutritional status, eating satisfaction, and overall quality of life. Allergic rhinitis (AR) is a common disease that greatly affects the quality of life and can lead to a decrease, distortion, or complete loss of olfactory ability.

Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is characterized by its aggressive nature and resistance to treatment. FAM107A is a tumor suppressor gene that has been found to possess inhibitory effects in several cancers, but its role in LUAD remains unclear. This study investigated the role of FAM107A in regulating LUAD cell growth, invasion and aerobic glycolysis and also investigated the potential underlying mechanisms.

Objective: Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is a significant complication of type 2 diabetes (T2D), yet the association between plasma proteomics and PAD in people with T2D remains unclear. We aimed to explore the relationship between plasma proteomics and PAD in individuals with T2D, and assess whether proteomics could refine PAD risk prediction.
Research Design And Methods: This cohort study included 1,859 individuals with T2D from the UK Biobank.

Iron metabolism plays a crucial role in the tumor microenvironment, influencing various aspects of cancer cell biology and tumor progression. This review discusses the regulatory mechanisms of iron metabolism within the tumor microenvironment and highlights how tumor cells and associated stromal cells manage iron uptake, accumulation and regulation. The sources of iron within tumors and the biological importance of ferroptosis in cancer were explored, focusing on its mechanisms, biological effects and, in particular, its tumor‑suppressive properties.

Non‑small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is one of the most prevalent and lethal types of cancers worldwide and its high incidence and mortality rates pose a significant public health challenge. Despite significant advances in targeted therapy and immunotherapy, the overall prognosis of patients with NSCLC remains poor. Hypoxia is a critical driving factor in tumor progression, influencing the biological behavior of tumor cells through complex molecular mechanisms.

The present study investigated the mechanisms by which aquaporin 1 (AQP1) influences microglial polarization and neuroinflammatory processes in traumatic brain injury (TBI). A model of TBI was generated in AQP1‑knockout mice to assess the impact of AQP1 deletion on inflammatory cytokine release, neuronal damage and cognitive function. Immunofluorescence, reverse transcription‑quantitative PCR, western blotting and enzyme‑linked immunosorbent assay were employed to evaluate pro‑inflammatory and anti‑inflammatory markers.

Background: With the refinement of catheter technology, distal medium vessel occlusions (DMVOs) are now viewed as amenable to endovascular treatment (EVT) but its efficacy and safety remains unclear in AIS patients with DMVO.
Methods: We conducted a systematic search of PubMed, Embase databases and Cochrane Library up to December 2023 using keywords to identify studies comparing EVT versus BMT in AIS with DMVOs. The assessed clinical outcomes were excellent functional outcome, good functional outcome, 90-day mortality, symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH), and early neurological improvement (ENI) after treatment.

Introduction: Calcific aortic valve disease (CAVD) is increasingly prevalent among the aging population, and there is a notable lack of drug therapies. Consequently, identifying novel drug targets will be of utmost importance. Given that type 2 diabetes is an important risk factor for CAVD, we identified key genes associated with diabetes - related CAVD via various bioinformatics methods, which provide further potential molecular targets for CAVD with diabetes.

Introduction: Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), a highly heterogeneous malignancy is often associated with unfavorable prognosis. Due to its unique anatomical position and the absence of effective early inspection methods, surgical intervention alone is frequently inadequate for achieving complete remission. Therefore, the identification of reliable biomarker is crucial to enhance the accuracy of screening and treatment strategies for HNSCC.
