Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Pseudostellaria heterophylla (Miq.) Pax (PH) is a traditional folk medicine, which is widely used clinically for digestive system tumors such as esophageal, gastric, colorectal, and liver cancers. The anti-tumor effect and mechanism of PH in colorectal cancer (CRC) deserves further study.

Exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and tobacco smoke is widespread and linked to various adverse health outcomes. Their potential to disturb the neurological system has raised much concern, particularly among older adults. Thus, we conducted a case-control study to assess the associations between co-exposure to PAHs and nicotine, and the risk of cognitive impairment and oxidative stress in older adults.

Background: It remains unclear whether adding CTLA-4 blockade to PD-1/PD-L1 blockade improves clinical outcomes in cervical cancer (CC).
Methods: In this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, phase 2 study (ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT04590599), patients with recurrent/metastatic CC (R/M CC) who experienced disease progression after or during platinum-based chemotherapy were enrolled from 37 centers across China and randomly assigned (1:1), stratified by PD-L1 expression and prior treatment lines, to receive either IBI310 plus sintilimab or placebo plus sintilimab intravenously every 3 weeks for 12 weeks, followed by sintilimab alone.

Accurate and selective techniques for visualizing endogenous peroxynitrite (ONOO) in cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury (CIRI) models are essential for understanding its complex pathological processes. Here, we introduced a longwave fluorescent probe TJO for detecting ONOO rapidly and sensitively, with a low detection limit of 91 nM. Furthermore, TJO exhibits excellent fluorescence imaging capabilities, enabling detailed visualization of ONOO⁻ in CIRI mice model.

The ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS) is essential for cellular homeostasis, regulating the degradation of proteins involved in key processes such as cell cycle, apoptosis, and DNA repair. Dysregulation of the UPS is implicated in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), contributing to tumor progression and therapeutic resistance. The cereblon (CRBN) E3 ubiquitin ligase complex is a crucial component of the UPS, particularly in modulating protein degradation in response to small-molecule modulators like thalidomide.

Background: Depression presents sexual dimorphism, and one important factor that increases the frequency of depression and contributes to sex-specific variations in its presentation is obesity. The conventional use of Body Mass Index (BMI) as an indicator of obesity is inherently limited due to its inability to distinguish between fat and lean mass, which limits its predictive utility for depression risk. Implementation of dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) investigated sex-specific associations between body composition (fat mass, appendicular lean mass) and depression.

This study introduced a novel dual fixation method for the pulmonary vasculature and lung tissue in pulmonary hypertension (PH) rats, addressing the limitations of traditional fixation methods that failed to accurately preserve the in vivo status of pulmonary vascular morphology. The modified method involved a dual fixation process, combining individualized ventilation support and vascular perfusion to simulate the respiratory motion, pulmonary artery pressure and right ventricular output of the rat under in vivo conditions. Utilizing a monocrotaline-induced PH rat model, this study compared the dual fixation with the traditional immersion fixation, focusing on the quantitative assessment of alveolar expansion degree, capillary patency, endothelial cell quantity and wall thickness of pulmonary vein and artery.

Cardiac arrest (CA) is a critical medical emergency that can occur in both patients with preexisting conditions and otherwise healthy individuals. Despite successful resuscitation through cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), many survivors are at significant risk of developing post-cardiac arrest syndrome (PCAS), a complex systemic response to CA that includes brain injury as a major component. Phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase 1 (PCK1), the first rate-limiting enzyme in gluconeogenesis, has been implicated in various diseases.

Over recent decades, optical imaging (OI) has become an integral part of medical imaging, offering significant advantages over other modalities, such as computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). OI is distinguished by its real-time imaging capability, cost-effectiveness, portability, absence of ionizing radiation, and high patient acceptability. The introduction of advanced optical dyes (including FDA-approved agents like indocyanine green, Cytalux, and Gleolan) has greatly enhanced its clinical utility.

Fluoxetine, a widely used selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), is highly effective in treating psychiatric disorders such as depression. Recently, its potential negative impact on male reproductive function has recently raised concerns, but it remains unknown whether testicular damage from long-term fluoxetine exposure can recover after stopping the drug. In this study, male C57BL/6 mice were divided into control (saline) and treatment (fluoxetine, 20mg/kg.

The widespread use of synthetic phenolic antioxidants (SPAs) has led to their ubiquity and may contribute to multiple adverse health outcomes by affecting hormone level disruption. This study aimed to assess the exposure levels of SPAs in the plasma of the normoglycemic rural Chinese population, investigate the association of single and mixed pollutant exposures with sex hormones, and analyze the moderating role of body mass index (BMI) in these relationships. A cross-sectional study including 763 individuals with normal blood glucose from the Henan Rural cohort was conducted.

Diabetic macular edema (DME) stands as a leading cause for vision loss among the working-age population. Anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) agents are currently recognized as the first-line treatment. However, a significant portion of patients remain insensitive to anti-VEGF, resulting in sustained visual impairment.

Interprofessional teaching rounds are a practical application of interprofessional education in bedside teaching, yet there is a lack of research on how interprofessional teaching rounds should be implemented into medical education. This study aimed to describe our experience in developing and implementing interprofessional teaching rounds during a clerkship rotation for medical students, and compares its strengths and weaknesses relative to traditional teaching rounds. Medical students were assigned to either the interprofessional teaching round group ( = 24) or the traditional teaching round group ( = 25), and each group participated in their assigned type of teaching round.

Background: Gene-edited pigs for xenotransplantation usually contain one or more transgenes encoding human complement regulatory proteins (CRPs). Because of species differences, human CRP(s) expressed in gene-edited pigs may have difficulty inhibiting the activation of exogenous rabbit complement added to a complement-dependent cytotoxicity (CDC) assay. The use of human complement instead of rabbit complement in CDC experiments may more accurately reflect the actual regulatory activity of human CRP(s).
