Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related mortality globally. N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is the most abundant modification in mammalian mRNA and is involved in the biological regulation of tumors, including lung cancer. However, the role of m6A-related proteins, such as RNA-binding motif protein 15 (RBM15), in lung cancer progression remains largely unknown.

Background: While the pericapsular nerve group (PENG) block has become increasingly popular for managing pain after hip surgery, its efficacy remains controversial.

Methods: We systematically searched Pubmed, Web of Science, Embase, and the Cochrane Library for randomized controlled trials to assess current evidence about the efficacy of the PENG block. Patients who received PENG block were compared to those who received sham/no block in terms of opioid consumption and pain within 24h after surgery, time to first opioid requirement, functional recovery, risk of nausea and vomiting, and patient dissatisfaction.

Background: The incidence rate of primary intramedullary spinal cord astrocytoma (IMSCA) is approximately 0.047 per 100,000 individuals per year, making it the second most common type of intramedullary spinal cord tumor. Due to its rarity, there is a scarcity of related research, and prognostic factors remain unclear.

Article Synopsis
  • Seizure-like symptoms in older patients without brain damage can be triggered by hypomagnesemia, often overlooked in the context of small bowel obstruction, which is common among this age group.
  • An 85-year-old man experienced weakness and seizure-like symptoms after suffering from small bowel obstruction, leading to a diagnosis of serum magnesium deficiency due to malabsorption and renal dysfunction.
  • Treatment with magnesium supplementation normalized his magnesium levels and eliminated the seizure-like activity, highlighting the importance of monitoring serum magnesium in older patients with bowel issues.

Catheter-directed thrombolysis reduces the thrombolytic time and dose of thrombolytic drugs without affecting the thrombolytic effect to ensure that bleeding does not occur. This helps clinicians choose safer CDT treatments for their patients. We combine the historical process of catheter-directed thrombolytic therapy for VTE and prospect the future development of CDT.

Background: Diarrheal irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D) is a functional bowel disease with diarrhea, and can be associated with common spleen deficiency syndrome of the prevelent traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome. Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) could help treating IBS-D, but may provide variable effects. Our study evaluated the efficacy of TCM- shenling Baizhu decoction and FMT in treating IBS-D with spleen deficiency syndrome, with significant implications on gut microbiome and serum metabolites.

  • The study investigated how interstitial free water (FW) acts as a bridge connecting deep medullary vein (DMV) scores to white matter hyperintensity (WMH) volume in patients with cerebral small vessel disease.
  • Researchers analyzed clinical and imaging data from 125 patients, scoring six DMV regions to create an overall DMV score, and measured WMH volume using imaging techniques.
  • Results showed that higher DMV scores and FW values were linked to increased WMH volumes, with FW mediating the relationship between DMV scores and WMH volume even when accounting for age, gender, and vascular risk factors.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess how well angiopoietin-2 (Ang-2) can predict the outcomes of patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) over 60 days.
  • Researchers analyzed data from 132 ARDS patients, comparing their plasma Ang-2 levels and clinical outcomes to determine if high levels were linked to increased mortality.
  • Results indicated that higher plasma Ang-2 levels post-treatment were significantly associated with death within 60 days, identifying Ang-2 as an independent risk factor for poor prognosis in these patients.
