In the present study, we propose the use of swabs in non-lethal sampling procedures to collect the mucosa-adhered gut microbiota from the posterior intestine of fish, and therefore, we compare the bacterial communities collected by conventional scraping and by swabbing methods. For this purpose, samples of the posterior intestine of rainbow trout () were collected first using the swabbing approach, and after fish euthanasia, by mucosa scraping. Finally, bacterial communities were compared by 16S rRNA gene Illumina sequencing.

M1/M2 paradigm of macrophage plasticity has existed for decades. Now it becomes clear that this dichotomy doesn't adequately reflect the diversity of macrophage phenotypes in tumor microenvironment (TME). Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) are a major population of innate immune cells in the TME that promotes tumor cell proliferation, angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis, invasion and metastatic niche formation, as well as response to anti-tumor therapy.

HER2 status determination is a necessary step for the proper choice of therapy and selection of patients for the targeted treatment of cancer. Targeted radiotracers such as radiolabeled DARPins provide a noninvasive and effective way for the molecular imaging of HER2 expression. This study aimed to evaluate tumor-targeting properties of three Tc-labeled DARPin G3 variants containing Gly-Gly-Gly-Cys (GC), (Gly-Gly-Gly-Ser)-Cys ((GS)C), or Glu-Glu-Glu-Cys (EC) amino acid linkers at the C-terminus and conjugated to the HYNIC chelating agent, as well as to compare them with the clinically evaluated DARPin G3 labeled with Tc(CO) using the (HE)-tag at the N-terminus.

Cardiac surgeries under cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) are complex procedures with high incidence of complications, morbidity and mortality. The inhaled nitric oxide (iNO) has been frequently used as an important composite of perioperative management during cardiac surgery under CPB. We conducted a meta-analysis of published randomized clinical trials (RCTs) to assess the effects of iNO on reducing postoperative complications, including the duration of postoperative mechanical ventilation, length of intensive care unit (ICU) stay, length of hospital stay, mortality, hemodynamic improvement (the composite right ventricular failure, low cardiac output syndrome, pulmonary arterial pressure, and vasoactive inotropic score) and myocardial injury biomarker (postoperative troponin I levels).

Molten gallium trichloride emerges as a promising solvent for oxidative metal recycling. The use of supercritical fluid enhances the performance and kinetics of metal dissolution due to significantly lower viscosity in the reaction media. Additionally, the dual molecular nature of gallium trichloride, existing as edge-sharing ES-GaCl dimers at low temperatures and high pressure, or flat trigonal GaCl monomers in the vicinity of the critical point and low pressures, creates the possibility to tailor the chemical geometry to a particular metallic species.

Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is common among schizophrenia patients, and one of MetS's causes may be an imbalance in nitric oxide regulation. In this study, we examined associations of three polymorphic variants of the nitric oxide synthase 1 adapter protein () gene with MetS in schizophrenia. NOS1AP regulates neuronal nitric oxide synthase, which controls intracellular calcium levels and may influence insulin secretion.

Background: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is the most frequent autosomal dominant disease, yet due to genetic heterogeneity, incomplete penetrance, and phenotype variability, the prognosis of the disease course in pathogenic variant carriers remains an issue. Identifying common patterns among the effects of different genetic variants is important.
Methods: We investigated the cause of familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) in a family with two patients suffering from a particularly severe disease.

Pallister-Killian syndrome (PKS) is a rare inherited disease with multiple congenital anomalies, profound intellectual disability, and the presence in the karyotype of sSMC - i(12)(p10). The frequency of PKS may be underestimated due to problems with cytogenetic diagnosis caused by tissue-specific mosaicism and usually a low percentage of peripheral blood cells containing sSMC. Such tissue-specific mosaicism also complicates a detailed analysis of the sSMC, which, along with the assessment of mosaicism in different tissues, is an important part of cytogenetic diagnosis in PKS.

The article presents the possibility of increasing the water resistance of gypsum binders (GBs) obtained based on synthetic gypsum by introducing additives derived from industrial wastes. Regularities were obtained for the influence of the type and amount of additives on the water/gypsum ratio (W/G), strength indicators and water resistance of high-strength GB. The introduction of a single-component additive to improve water resistance does not have a significant effect.

The effect of a new JNK inhibitor IQ-1 (11H-indeno[1,2-b]quinoxalin-11-one oxime) was studied in male Wistar rats in a model of acute myocardial ischemia/reperfusion. Area at risk and myocardial infarct zones were studied in two series of experiments: 16 h after a single dose of IQ-1 (25 mg/kg intraperitoneally during cardiac ischemia) and on day 5 after its course administration (25 mg/kg intraperitoneally during cardiac ischemia and daily over 4 days). On day 5 after ischemia/reperfusion, cardiodynamic indicators were also studied: systolic, end-diastolic, and minimum pressure in the left ventricle, stress-time index, as well as the maximum rates of pressure rise and fall in the left ventricle (+dP/dt and -dP/dt).

Hypoxia (20 min) and reoxygenation (30 min) were simulated on isolated rat cardiomyocytes to evaluate the cytoprotective effect of selective δ-opioid receptor agonist deltorphin II, opioid receptor antagonist naloxone methiodide, μ-opioid receptor antagonist CTAP, κ-opioid receptor antagonist nor-binaltorphimine, ε-opioid receptor antagonist BNTX, and δ-opioid receptors naltriben. Deltorphin II was administered 5 min before reoxygenation, antagonists were administered 10 min before reoxygenation. The cytoprotective effect of deltorphin II was assessed by the number of cardiomyocytes survived after hypoxia/reoxygenation, as well as by the lactate dehydrogenase content in the incubation medium.

We investigated the effect of a decrease in blood viscosity on the mean BP during isovolumic hemodilution and vasodilating activity of the endothelium in normotensive Wistar rats and spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR). Blood viscosity was reduced by isovolumic hemodilution (replacement of 10% of circulating blood with an equal volume of plasma). Hemodilution caused the same reduction in blood viscosity by 16% in both groups of rats.

Silica-supported chromium oxide catalysts, also named Phillips chromium catalysts (PCCs), provide more than half of the world's production of high- and medium-density polyethylenes. PCCs are usually prepared in the Cr(VI)/SiO form, which is subjected to reductive activation. It has been explicitly proven that CO reduces Cr(VI) to Cr(II) species that initiate ethylene polymerization; ethylene activates Cr(VI) sites as well, but the nature of the catalytic species is complicated by the presence of the ethylene oxidation products.
