Thin composite films comprising two primary representatives of conducting polymers, poly(3, 4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) and polypyrrole (PPy), with eco-friendly cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) were prepared through electrochemical polymerization. The combination of CNC and PEDOT (or PPy) results in the formation of films with highly different surface topography and thickness. Intriguingly, different surface conductivity of PEDOT and PPy was revealed by atomic force microscopy albeit that the electrochemical properties were rather similar.

Nanofibrous materials represent a very promising form of advanced carrier systems that can be used industrially, especially in regenerative medicine as highly functional bandages, or advanced wound dressings. By incorporation of antimicrobial additives directly into the structure of the nanofiber carrier, the functionality of the layer is upgraded, depending on the final requirement-bactericidal, bacteriostatic, antiseptic, or a generally antimicrobial effect. Such highly functional nanofibrous layers can be prepared mostly by electrospinning technology from both synthetic and natural polymers.

Comprehensive magnetic particle stability together with compatibility between them and liquid medium (silicone oil) is still a crucial issue in the case of magnetorheological (MR) suspensions to guarantee their overall stability and MR performance. Therefore, this study is aimed at improving the interfacial stability between the carbonyl iron (CI) particles and silicone oil. In this respect, the particles were modified with polymer brushes and dendritic structures of poly(2-(trimethylsilyloxy)ethyl methacrylate) (PHEMATMS), called CI-brushes or CI-dendrites, respectively, and their stability properties (corrosion, thermo-oxidation, and sedimentation) were compared to neat CI ones.

The modification of polymer materials' useful properties can be applicable in many industrial areas due to the ability to make commodity and technical plastics (plastics that offer many benefits, such as processability, by injection molding) useful in more demanding applications. In the case of injection-molded parts, one of the most suitable methods for modification appears to be high-energy irradiation, which is currently used primarily for the modification of mechanical and thermal properties. However, well-chosen doses can effectively modify the properties of the surface layer as well.

Blends of poly(lactic acid) (PLA) with poly(propylene carbonate) (PPC) are currently in the phase of intensive study due to their promising properties and environmentally friendly features. Intensive study and further commercialization of PPC-based polymers or their blends, as usual, will soon face the problem of their waste occurring in the environment, including soil. For this reason, it is worth comprehensively studying the degradation rate of these polymers over a long period of time in soil and, for comparison, in phosphate buffer to understand the difference in this process and evaluate the potential application of such materials toward agrochemical and agricultural purposes.
