Introduction: The management of urinary tract stones, particularly kidney allograft stones, presents unique challenges for kidney transplant recipients because of their prevalence and specific clinical considerations. Here, we describe a case in which percutaneous nephrolithotomy was successfully used to fragment a large kidney allograft stone ≥20 mm in size.
Case Presentation: A 57-year-old woman who underwent ureteroureterostomy post simultaneous pancreas-kidney transplantation presented with gross hematuria after 15 years.
Background: A wearable cardioverter defibrillator (WCD) is indicated for a limited period in patients at high risk of sudden cardiac death (SCD). Nonischemic heart failure (HF) is common among Japanese patients with HF. The aim of this study was to evaluate the incidence of fatal arrhythmias during WCD use and the clinical outcomes after WCD withdrawal in Japanese patients with HF.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the association of changes in arithmetic hip-knee-ankle angle (aHKA) with both postoperative joint laxity and patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) in patients with CPAK type I following mechanical alignment (MA) total knee arthroplasty (TKA).
Methods: Of 111 consecutive knees in 92 patients with osteoarthritis who underwent primary TKA, 80 knees (72.
In the case of adenosine-sensitive atrial tachycardia originating near the atrioventricular (AV) node, overdrive pacing from the anterior right atrium showed constant and progressive fusion, indicating that the pacing site is proximal to slow conduction. Shortening the pacing cycle length prolonged conduction times to the orthodromic capture sites; they remained unchanged at the antidromic capture sites. Limited decremental conduction property in the slow conduction zone supports the hypothesis that AV node-like tissue remnants along the AV annulus are involved.

However, data regarding their effectiveness in preventing pocket hematomas (PHs) during the implantation of cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIED) among the Asian population are limited. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the potential benefits of using MPH hemostatic agents during CIED implantations as a preventive measure against post-procedural PHs.

Background: Intensive localized therapy is promising for the treatment of rectal cancer. In Japan, chemoradiotherapy (CRT) and neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) are used as preoperative treatments for this disease. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is used to diagnose lateral pelvic node (LPN) metastases, but the changes in LPN findings on MRI following preoperative treatment are unclear.

A 66-year-old man was admitted to our hospital with right-dominant bilateral pleural effusions and gradually worsening dyspnoea. Chest radiographs revealed right-dominant pleural effusions, while chest computed tomography showed bilateral pleural effusions without parenchymal lesions.

Methods And Results: Between 2017 and 2022, 1089 cases of acute cerebral infarction were recorded within 7 days of disease onset. Among them, transcranial Doppler was successful in 33 patients who had active cancer, and these data were analyzed in this study.
A 26-year-old man with long QT syndrome (LQTS) underwent subcutaneous implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (S-ICD) implantation. The patient exhibited sinus bradycardia relative to his age. The heart rate decreased, and the QT interval became longer with the administration of β-blockers, the first-line therapy for LQTS.

An analysis of the EnSSURE study on 3188 stage II-III rectal cancer patients, which was performed by including the participation of qualified surgeons as assistants and advisers without restricting their participation as operators, revealed that the participation of technically qualified surgeons in surgery improved the technical and oncological safety of laparoscopic rectal resection.
Aim: This secondary retrospective analysis of the EnSSURE study examined the advantage of qualified surgeons participating in laparoscopic low anterior resection (LAR).

Background: The COVID-19 outbreak made conventional medical care impossible, forcing changes in both healthcare providers and patients. In Japan, COVID-19 infection began spreading in earnest in 2020 and exploded in 2021. There was concern that the medical impact of COVID-19 in 2021 would differ from that in 2020.

Aim: Possible negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on short-term postoperative outcomes for colorectal perforation in Japan were examined in this study.
Methods: The National Clinical Database (NCD) is a large-scale database including more than 95% of surgical cases in Japan. We analyzed 13 107 cases of colorectal perforation from 2019 to 2021.
Mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) is a low-grade lymphoma, but cases in which it has transformed into a high-grade lymphoma have been reported, necessitating an accurate diagnosis. The patient was a 79-year-old nonsmoking Japanese female with history of ocular sarcoidosis. A computed tomography scan of her chest revealed a 35-mm nodule in the left S1 + 2, contiguous with the lymph nodes.

Polyglycolic acid sheets and fibrin glue have been used in thoracic surgery and otolaryngology to reinforce sutures and prevent air leakage. There have been recent reports of their use in endoscopic surgery for the closure of intraoperative perforations after endoscopic submucosal dissection and for fistula closure after upper gastrointestinal tract surgery.
