Evaluating post-cardiac arrest blood pressure thresholds associated with neurologic outcome in children: Insights from the pediRES-Q database.

Background: Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support Guidelines recommend maintaining blood pressure (BP) above the 5th percentile for age following return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) after cardiac arrest (CA). Emerging evidence suggests that targeting higher thresholds, such as the 10th or 25th percentiles, may improve neurologic outcomes. We aimed to evaluate the association between post-ROSC BP thresholds and neurologic outcome, hypothesizing that maintaining mean arterial pressure (MAP) and systolic blood pressure (SBP) above these thresholds would be associated with improved outcomes at hospital discharge.

Viral mimicry driven by endogenous double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) stimulates innate and adaptive immune responses. However, the mechanisms that regulate dsRNA-forming transcripts during cancer therapy remain unclear. Here, we demonstrate that dsRNA is significantly accumulated in cancer cells following pharmacologic induction of micronuclei, stimulating mitochondrial antiviral signaling (MAVS)-mediated dsRNA sensing in conjunction with the cyclic GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS)/stimulator of interferon genes (STING) pathway.

Case report: Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy with severe central nervous system demyelination: a clinicopathological study.

Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP) is an immune-mediated disease that mainly affects the peripheral nerves and nerve roots and typically presents with distal dominant motor and sensory disturbances as clinical symptoms. Central nervous system (CNS) demyelination with inflammation occurs infrequently in patients with CIDP. Here, we present a unique autopsy report of CIDP causing severe demyelination along the entire spinal cord.

Neonatal Necrotizing Fasciitis of the Foot Caused by Bacillus cereus: A Case Report.

Few neonatal cases of soft tissue and osteoarticular infections with have been reported. We report a rare clinical presentation of necrotizing fasciitis of the foot caused by in a 17-day-old male neonate with hypoplastic left-sided heart syndrome. Fulminant progressive black skin necrosis was triggered by fresh frozen plasma leakage from the peripheral venous access.

Effects of early sports specialization on landing and balance ability in female college basketball players.

Objectives: Early specialization in a single sport from childhood is associated with an increased risk for acute and overuse injuries. Conversely, experience in multiple sports may be associated with improved neuromuscular control and performance. Currently, early sports specialization remains poorly researched in Japan.

A Case of Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Breast Occurring in Benign Phyllodes Tumor.

A 49-year-old woman visited our hospital after noticing an enlarged left breast mass. After a biopsy, she was diagnosed with fibroadenoma and underwent tumor resection. Postoperative pathology revealed squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) within a benign phyllodes tumor.

Course and treatment of severe osteoporosis complicated by calciphylaxis: a case report.

Calciphylaxis, also known as calcific uremic arteriolopathy (CUA), is a rare disorder with many unknown treatment and diagnostic aspects. It is characterized by calcification and thrombosis of small blood vessels. Effect of changes in skin properties due to diabetes mellitus on the titration period of transdermal fentanyl: single-center retrospective study and diabetic animal model study.

Background: In the dose titration of transdermal fentanyl to prevent unrelieved pain, it is important to consider not only dose adjustment, but also the titration period, which is influenced by the time required to reach the steady state. Many patients with cancer pain experience comorbidities that might affect the skin properties and influence transdermal absorption. We hypothesized that skin changes due to diabetes mellitus (DM) would affect the titration period of transdermal fentanyl.

This study aimed to clarify the trajectory of BMI alongside age-related changes in height and weight among Japanese adults. Data from annual health checkups between 2015 and 2020 by the Japan Health Insurance Association were retrospectively analyzed. A total of 4,777,891 men and 3,378,003 women (age 35-69 years) were stratified into 14 subgroups based on sex and 5-year age categories.

[Factors associated with cancer risk perception among high school sophomores: an analysis of national survey data based on a cancer education logic model to promote cancer control].

Objective　Using a nationwide survey of cancer education outcomes that contribute to cancer control, this study aimed to determine the short-term outcomes of cancer education associated with students' perceptions of cancer risk.Methods　An online survey was administered to second-year high school students between September and December 2022. The participants were asked about two basic attributes and 33 short-term outcome measures, as shown in the cancer education logic model.

Final Report of Trends in Pregnancy and Birth Survey after the Great East Japan Earthquake and Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant Accident: The Fukushima Health Management Survey.

This study aimed to assess long-term changes in pregnancy and birth outcomes after the Great East Japan Earthquake and the accident at the Tokyo Electric Power Company's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant in Fukushima Prefecture.　This is the final report on perinatal outcomes of the Prefectural Health Survey, which ended after a 10-year observation period.　Questionnaires based on a pregnancy and birth survey conducted by the Radiation Medical Science Center for the Fukushima Health Management Survey were sent to women who had received maternal and child health handbooks from municipal officers in Fukushima Prefecture.

Skeletal Muscle Mass Loss and Physical Function in Young to Middle-Aged Adult Patients With Diabetes: Cross-Sectional Observational Study.

Background: Recently, it has been reported that older adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) have lower skeletal muscle mass than healthy individuals. Although skeletal muscle mass in older adults with diabetes is occasionally reported, similar reports on young to middle-aged adults are limited.

Objective: This study aims to assess the prevalence of skeletal muscle loss in young to middle-aged adults with diabetes, examine the relationship between skeletal muscle loss and physical function in these patients, and examine whether there are differences in these characteristics between men and women.

Close attention to P-wave morphology and fused premature ventricular complexes can be important for a proper diagnosis.

Association Between the Japanese Version of the Stanford Integrated Psychosocial Assessment for Transplantation and Adjustment Disorder in Japanese Patients Using Ventricular Assist Devices as a Bridge to Heart Transplantation.

Objective: Ventricular assist device (VAD) serves as either a bridge to transplantation (BTT) or destination therapy (DT) for end-stage heart failure. In Japan, the extended wait time for heart transplants can make VAD usage for BTT comparable in duration to DT in other countries. Previous studies suggest that while DT patients experience improved quality of life post-VAD implantation, BTT patients often see a decline after two years.

Health economic evaluation alongside randomised clinical trial of a health behaviour intervention to manage type 2 diabetes in Nepal.

Background: Prevention of type 2 diabetes is becoming an urgent public health concern in low and middle-income countries (LMICs). However, there is currently no evidence of a cost-effective approach of health behaviour interventions from community settings in low-income countries like Nepal. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the within-trial economic evaluation of a health behaviour intervention compared with usual care for managing type 2 diabetes in a community setting in Nepal.

Potential Utility of Circulating MicroRNA-483 as a Biomarker for IGF-II-Associated Non-Islet Cell Tumor Hypoglycemia.

Context: In most cases of non-islet cell tumor hypoglycemia (NICTH), high molecular weight forms of insulin-like growth factor II, commonly referred to as big IGF-II, cause hypoglycemia. MicroRNA-483 (miR-483), encoded within an intron of IGF2 gene, has been suggested to be co-expressed with IGF-II.

Aim: Although the association between personality and health has been well documented, the interaction between personality and health risk factors is understudied. This study examined (i) the relationship between the Big Five model of personality and subjective well-being and (ii) the buffering effect of social support on the relationship between personality and subjective well-being among Japanese older adults.
