Atopic dermatitis (AD), a chronic relapsing inflammatory skin disease with a high disease burden, is one of the most common dermatological conditions in Japan. Herein, we report the disease profiles and current AD treatment during 2-year management of Japanese adults with moderate-to-severe AD. ADDRESS-J was a prospective, longitudinal, observational study that evaluated real-world effectiveness and safety of current AD treatments of adult patients with moderate-to-severe AD (Investigator's Global Assessment score 3 or 4) in Japan.

Micropetrosis develops as a result of stagnation of calcium, phosphorus and bone fluid, which appears as highly mineralized bone area in the osteocytic perilacunar/canalicular system regardless of bone turnover of the patients. And microcracks are predisposed to increase in these areas, which leads to increased bone fragility. However, micropetrosis of hemodialysis (HD) patients has not been discussed at all.

Autoantibodies against 3‑hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase (HMGCR) and the signal recognition particle (SRP) are representative antibodies causing immune-mediated necrotizing myopathies (IMNM), called as anti-HMGCR and anti-SRP myopathies, respectively. Here, we analyzed the differences in routine blood test results between 56 anti-HMGCR and 77 anti-SRP myopathy patients. A higher alanine transaminase (ALT) level and a lower aspartate transaminase (AST)/ALT ratio were observed in anti-HMGCR myopathy patients [ALT, 265.

Purpose: Accelerated trans-epithelial cross-linking (ATE-CXL), a therapy to halt keratoconus progression, has the merit of widening the indications for thinner corneas (<380 μm). Since a hypotonic solution affects the swollen cornea, corneas of <380 μm thickness at preoperative measurement can be an indication for ATE-CXL. The aim of this retrospective study was to compare the efficacy and safety of ATE-CXL for keratoconus between corneas with thicknesses <380 μm and ≥380 μm.

Background And Aims: It remains unclear whether obesity increases the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in patients with chronic hepatitis C who achieved a sustained virological response (SVR) with antiviral therapy.
Methods: In this multicenter cohort study, we enrolled patients with chronic hepatitis C who achieved SVR with interferon (IFN)-based therapy (IFN group) or direct-acting antiviral (DAA) therapy (DAA group) between January 1, 1990, and December 31, 2018. The patients underwent regular surveillance for HCC.

We report the successful treatment of two cases of difficult-to-treat pressure ulcers with botulinum toxin type A (BoNT-A). A 71-year-old male patient with Parkinson's disease presented with severe hand grip deformities of the fingers and a pressure ulcer (PU) on the right hand. He received 240U of BoNT-A into the upper limb muscles, which improved finger mobility during passive extension and resulted in resolution of the palm PU.

Background: Intravitreal injections of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor are commonly used to treat macular diseases, including diabetic macular edema. Anti-vascular endothelial growth factor drugs can enter the systemic circulation after intravitreal injections and appear to suppress circulating vascular endothelial growth factor levels. However, whether this can cause any systemic adverse events remains unknown.

Some mammalian genes contain both major and minor introns, the splicing of which require distinctive major and minor spliceosomes, respectively; these genes are referred to as minor intron containing-genes. RNPC3 (RNA-binding domain-containing protein 3) is one of the proteins that are unique to the minor spliceosome U11/U12 di-snRNP. Only two families with biallelic pathogenic variants in the RNPC3 gene encoding the protein have been reported so far, and the affected members in both families had proportional short stature.

Objective: To elucidate the mechanism of hypertensive crisis during energy device ablation of the adrenal gland.
Methods: Electrocoagulation on the adrenal glands of six pigs was carried out with the same energy device (VIO300D) using four methods: (i) monopolar coagulation; (ii) monopolar soft coagulation using IO-advanced ball-type electrodes; (iii) bipolar soft coagulation by pinching; and (iv) bipolar soft coagulation by non-pinching (surface contact) using Bipolar forceps Premium. After electrocoagulation for 5 s, blood pressure and pulse changes were monitored, and adrenal hormones were measured from a central vein.

Diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (DISH) is a non-inflammatory process characterized by hyperostosis at tendon insertions and around joint capsules and ossification of the anterior longitudinal ligament of the spine. The flexibility of the spinal column is reduced in DISH and affects the movement of the thorax, leading to restrictive ventilatory function. In this report, we describe the first two cases of severe type 2 (hypercapnic) respiratory failure associated with DISH.

Palmoplantar pustulosis (PPP) is a chronic dermatitis characterized by sterile intra-epidermal pustules associated with erythema and scales on the palms and soles. Tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α/interleukin (IL)-23/IL-17 inflammatory pathway may be involved in the pathogenesis of PPP, and the skin lesions manifest the enhanced expression of IL-8 in keratinocytes and increased levels of antimicrobial peptide cathelicidin, leucine leucine-37 in vesicles/pustules. Some PPP patients are associated with arthro-osteitis, called pustulotic arthro-osteitis (PAO).

Background: The association between vestibular function and findings of horizontal head-shaking nystagmus (HHSN) and vibration-induced nystagmus (VIN) tests is not well understood.
Objective: To investigate the association between function in the five distinct vestibular end organs and findings of these nystagmus tests.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 50 patients with vestibular diseases who underwent HHSN testing, VIN testing, video head impulse testing (vHIT), cervical vestibular evoked myogenic potential testing to air-conducted sound (ACS cVEMP) and ocular VEMP testing to ACS (ACS oVEMP).
