Acute subdural hematoma (ASDH) sometimes occurred in judo because of the bridging veins' failure by rotation of the brain in the skull. However, the relationship between intracranial behaviour and the motion of the body on occiput impact has not yet been clarified. In this study, we developed an intracranial mechanical model based on multibody dynamics and compared it with experimental results.

Pachychoroid neovasculopathy (PNV) shares some anatomical features with other pachychoroid spectrum diseases, but little is known about the characteristics on the treatment with anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). We investigated the effect of choroidal structure and responses to anti-VEGF on the prognosis of pachychoroid neovasculopathy (PNV) and other types of neovascular age-related macular degeneration (non-PNV). Twenty-one eyes with PNV and 34 eyes with non-PNV who had anti-VEGF treatment were retrospectively reviewed.

Vertebral fracture (VF) is a common osteoporotic fracture, while its epidemiology varies according to regions and ethnicities, little is known about it in Japan. Using whole-spine radiographs from a population-based cohort study, the Research on Osteoarthritis/Osteoporosis Against Disability study 3rd survey performed in 2012-2013, we estimated the sex- and age-specific prevalence of VF in the Japanese. Genant's semiquantitative method (SQ) was used to define VF; SQ ≥ 1 as VF, SQ = 1 as mild VF, SQ≥ 2 as severe VF.

Although laboratory tests and mid-term clinical outcomes show the clinical safety and remarkable wear resistance of the highly cross-linked polyethylene (HXLPE) acetabular liner with a nanometer-scaled graft layer of poly(2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine) (PMPC), the wear resistance of the layer under severe abrasive conditions is concerning. We evaluated the effects of a roughened femoral head and the grafting locus on the wear resistance of the PMPC-grafted HXLPE liner and the effect of PMPC grafting on wear resistance of the HXLPE substrate by removing the PMPC-grafted layer using a severely roughened femoral head. Against a moderately roughened femoral head, the PMPC-grafted HXLPE liner showed negative wear, although an untreated HXLPE liner increased the wear by 154.

The objective of this study was to clarify the usefuleness of the K parameters of the independent verification method using V (the volume of water receiving 100% of the prescription dose) for institutions implementing the high-dose-rate (HDR) intracavitary brachytherapy for gynecological cancer. The data of 249 plans of 11 institutions in Japan were used, and the constant K value obtained by a parameter fit for single-Ir, two-Ir, and three-Ir systems was calculated. The predicted total dwell time calculated using the constant K value was defined as T, and the total dwell time calculated using a radiation treatment planning system was defined as T.

Background: The distribution of uveitis varies with genetic, ethnic, geographic, environmental, and lifestyle factors. Epidemiological information about the patterns of uveitis is useful when an ophthalmologist considers the diagnosis of uveitis. Therefore, it is important to identify the causes of uveitis over the years in different regions.

Using a dataset of 150 patients treated with intermittent androgen suppression (IAS) through a fixed treatment schedule, we retrospectively designed a personalized treatment schedule mathematically for each patient. We estimated 100 sets of parameter values for each patient by randomly resampling each patient's time points to take into account the uncertainty for observations of prostate specific antigen (PSA). Then, we identified 3 types and classified patients accordingly: in type (i), the relapse, namely the divergence of PSA, can be prevented by IAS; in type (ii), the relapse can be delayed by IAS later than by continuous androgen suppression (CAS); in type (iii) IAS was not beneficial and therefore CAS would have been more appropriate in the long run.
