Objective: To investigate somatosensory pathway function in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) dependent on invasive ventilation and in a completely locked-in state (CLIS).
Methods: We examined median nerve somatosensory evoked potentials (SEPs) in 17 ALS patients in a CLIS, including 11 patients with sporadic ALS, one with familial ALS with genes not examined, four with a Cu/Zn superoxide-dismutase-1 (SOD1) gene variant (Val118Leu, Gly93Ser, Cys146Arg), and one with a fused-in-sarcoma gene variant (P525L). We evaluated N9, N13, N20 and P25, and central conduction time (CCT); the data were compared with those of 73 healthy controls.

Importance: The lack of robust neuroanatomical markers of psychosis risk has been traditionally attributed to heterogeneity. A complementary hypothesis is that variation in neuroanatomical measures in individuals at psychosis risk may be nested within the range observed in healthy individuals.
Objective: To quantify deviations from the normative range of neuroanatomical variation in individuals at clinical high risk for psychosis (CHR-P) and evaluate their overlap with healthy variation and their association with positive symptoms, cognition, and conversion to a psychotic disorder.

Pentosidine (PEN) is an advanced glycation end-product (AGEs), where a fluorescent cross-link is formed between lysine and arginine residues in proteins. Accumulation of PEN is associated with aging and various diseases. Introduction: Pareidolia, a form of visual illusions phenomenologically similar to complex visual hallucinations, is a phenomenon that is associated with visual hallucinations in dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB). This study aimed to identify commonalities and differences in behavioral and neural correlates between pareidolic illusions and visual hallucinations in DLB.
Methods: Forty-three patients with DLB underwent the scene pareidolia test, which evokes and measures pareidolic illusions, and standardized neuropsychological and behavioral assessments.

(1) Background: Even though the comorbidity of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and a psychotic disorder (PD), such as schizophrenia, is being increasingly recognized, the impact of this comorbidity on the clinical presentation, including insight into obsessive-compulsive symptoms and the functioning of OCD, remains unclear. (2) Methods: To investigate clinical differences between OCD patients with and without PD, 86 Japanese outpatients who met the DSM-IV-TR criteria for OCD were recruited and divided into two groups: 28 OCD patients with PD, and 58 OCD patients without PD. The two groups were cross-sectionally compared in terms of their sociodemographic profiles and clinical characteristics, including the DSM-IV-TR insight specifier and the Global Assessment of Functioning (GAF).

The importance of identification of facial emotion recognition (FER) bias for a child's face has been reinforced from the perspective of risk screening for future peripartum mental health problems. We attempted to clarify the relationship of FER bias for children's faces with antenatal depression and bonding failure among pregnant women, taking into consideration their broad social cognitive abilities and experience in child raising. Background: This study evaluated the effectiveness of a comprehensive mental health literacy (MHL) educational programme known as "Sanita" for improving junior high school students' knowledge of mental illness, attitudes towards people with mental health problems, and help-seeking behaviour.
Methods: A randomised controlled trial with a parallel-group design was conducted. A total of 125 students (51 in the intervention group and 74 in the control group) received three 50-min classes and completed self-report questionnaires (Mental Illness and Disorder Understanding Scale, MIDUS; Reported and Intended Behaviour Scale, RIBS-J; and an original questionnaire investigating help-seeking behaviour) before and after the programme and three months later.

The corticospinal tract (CST), which plays a major role in the control of voluntary limb movements, arises from multiple motor- and somatosensory-related areas in monkeys.
