Background: Delayed anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction often causes residual anterolateral rotatory instability (ALRI) and consequent knee osteoarthritis, warranting the recommendation of early ACL reconstruction within 6 months after injury. Nonetheless, some cases show notable instability, even shortly after injury. The purpose of this study was to identify risk factors for an increase in quantitatively measured pivot shift in patients with ACL-deficient knees within 6 months after injury.

Purpose: The correlation of cartilage thickness measured by three-dimensional (3D) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and the medial meniscal coverage ratio (MMCR), which presented pathology of the medial meniscus extrusion (MME) in 3D MRI, has not yet been elucidated. The study's purpose was to retrospectively verify whether the average cartilage thickness calculated by the automatic MRI 3D analysis system for each subregion was correlated with MMCR.

Methods: A total of 60 patients underwent medial meniscus repair or high tibial osteotomy to treat their medial knee osteoarthritis.

This study investigated the prognostic value of cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR)-derived global coronary flow reserve (G-CFR) in addition to cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) variables in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). We investigated 127 patients with AMI who underwent primary or urgent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and post-intervention CMR and CPET. The incidence of major cardiac and cerebrovascular events (MACCE), defined as all-cause death, recurrent non-fatal myocardial infarction, re-hospitalization due to congestive heart failure, and stroke, was evaluated (median follow-up, 2.

Background And Aims: Crohn's disease (CD)-associated intestinal cancers are characterized by their high incidence, particularly at the anorectal site in the Japanese population. Accumulating evidence revealed that younger-onset sporadic colorectal cancer may exhibit unique biological features. To the best of our knowledge, few previous articles reported clinicopathological features in patients with CD-associated anorectal cancer (CDAAC).

Article Synopsis
  • * A total of 189 patients who underwent total mesorectal excision and LLND were included, and data on local recurrence (LR) and lateral lymph node recurrence (LLNR) were analyzed after matching similar patient characteristics.
  • * While 39 patients had pathological LLNM, the analysis showed similar rates of LR and LLNR in both groups after balancing their characteristics, suggesting LLND can provide comparable local control regardless of LLNM presence.

Background: We explore an optimized approach for increasing lesion size using a novel ablation catheter with a surface thermocouple and efficient irrigation in a temperature-control setting.

Methods: We conducted radiofrequency applications at various power levels (35 W, 40 W, and 45 W), contact forces (CFs, 10 g/20 g), and durations (60 s/120 s/180 s) in perpendicular/parallel catheter orientations, with normal saline irrigation (NS-irrigation) and Half NS-irrigation (HNS-irrigation) in an ex-vivo model (Step 1). In addition, we performed applications (35 W/40 W/45 W for 60 s/120 s/180 s in NS-irrigation and 35 W/40 W for 60 s/120 s/180 s in HNS-irrigation) in four swine (Step 2), evaluating lesion characteristics and the occurrence of steam pops.

Article Synopsis
  • Atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia (AVNRT) can return even after successful ablation of the slow pathway, prompting a study on recurrence reasons in 46 patients.
  • The study found that while many patients initially had successful RF ablation targeting the rightward inferior extension (RIE), some still experienced recurrent AVNRT, with various types showing up in follow-up cases.
  • Most recurrences were treated successfully again within the RIE area, and notably, the new successful ablation sites were often higher than where the initial procedure targeted.

Background: We present a case report on the efficacy of the short-term application of vortioxetine in managing winter depression in patients with seasonal bipolar disorder (BP). Standard treatment strategies for BP may not adequately address seasonal depressive symptoms during winter in patients with seasonal BP patterns. Depressive symptoms during winter may be linked to seasonal changes in serotonin transporter binding, such as a decrease in synaptic serotonin levels, necessitating alternative approaches.

Families of critically ill patients are predisposed to tremendous burdens when their relatives are admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU). Postintensive care syndrome family (PICS-F) can be described as a devastated life, encompassing psychological, physical, and socioeconomical burdens that begin with the emotional impact experienced by the family when the patient is admitted to the ICU. PICS-F was primarily proposed as a clinically significant psychological impairment, but it needs to be extended beyond the psychological impairment of the family to include physical and socioeconomical impairments in the future.
