The present study investigated whether saccharin, a non-caloric sweetener, induces conditioned bottle-position preference in mice. In a two-bottle preference test, the mice initially preferred water from a specific side. When saccharin was introduced on the opposite side, the mice showed increased total intake and a preference for the position of the saccharin bottle.

Myelin is an electrical insulator that enables saltatory nerve conduction and is essential for proper functioning of the central nervous system (CNS). It is formed by oligodendrocytes (OLs) in the CNS, and during OL development various molecules, including extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins, regulate OL differentiation and myelination; however, the role of ECM proteins in these processes is not well understood. Our present work is centered on the analyses of the expression and function of fibulin-7 (Fbln7), an ECM protein of the fibulin family, in OL differentiation.

Recently, the International Federation of Associations of Anatomists (IFAA) published guidelines that could restrict the appearance of cadaveric images in commercial anatomical resources such as textbooks and other educational products. Sonic hedgehog (Shh) is expressed in the oropharyngeal epithelium, including the frontonasal ectodermal zone (FEZ), which is defined as the boundary between Shh and Fgf8 expression domains in the frontonasal epithelium. To investigate the role of SHH signaling from the oropharyngeal epithelium, we generated mice in which Shh expression is specifically deleted in the oropharyngeal epithelium (Isl1-Cre; Shh). In the mutant mouse, Shh expression was excised in the oropharyngeal epithelium as well as FEZ and ventral forebrain, consistent with the expression pattern of Isl1.

Background: This study investigates a novel isometric method utilizing an external focus instruction technique with a soft paper balloon.
