Edwardsiella tarda is a Gram-negative intracellular pathogen within the Enterobacterales order, recognized as a causative agent of hemorrhagic septicemia in fish but also pathogenic to humans. However, the clinical course and prognostic factors of E. tarda bacteremia are not fully understood.

Background: Wild-type (WT) mice fed a conventional high-fat/high-sucrose diet (HFHSD) rarely develop metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) with HCC. Because mouse bile acid (BA) is highly hydrophilic, we hypothesized that making it hydrophobic would lead to MASH with HCC.

Methods: Eleven-week-old WT and Cyp2a12/Cyp2c70 double knockout (DKO) mice were divided into two groups, including one which was fed a normal chow diet, and one which was fed an HFHSD.

Visceral disseminated varicella zoster virus (VZV) infection is a severe complication, characterized by a notably high mortality rate. Herein, we present a case of a 36-year-old-man involving visceral disseminated VZV infection that emerged during remission induction therapy involving high-dose prednisolone (PSL), mycophenolate mofetil (MMF), and hydroxychloroquine for lupus nephritis. Two months after starting the immunosuppressive therapy, he experienced a rapid onset of severe upper abdominal pain.

A Comparison of Subjective Symptoms of Two Types of Silicone Hydrogel One-Day Disposable Contact Lenses.

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the comfort and discomfort of two types of soft contact lenses (SCLs) by comparing their quality of vision, fit, subjective dryness, and handling.

Infections associated with percutaneous pinning of the fingers occur in a certain percentage of cases; however, osteomyelitis rarely leads to more severe suppurative arthritis of the hand. A 26-year-old woman presented with scapholunate dissociation and underwent percutaneous pinning. Although some signs of infection were found around the pin site at five weeks, the pins were removed seven weeks postoperatively.

Background/objectives: We previously reported that traction magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the elbow without arthrography increases the width of the radiocapitellar joint (RC) and improves articular cartilage visibility. However, the effects of axial traction on different age groups have not yet been evaluated. We hypothesized that the effect of traction would decrease as the participants' age increased.

Relationship between Physical Characteristics and Morphological Features of the Articular Radius Surface: A Retrospective Single-Center Study.

Preoperative planning is important for the osteosynthesis of distal radius fractures. Challenges arise for patients presenting with bilateral wrist injuries or a history of contralateral wrist injuries. In such cases, the estimation of the distal radius morphology and the determination of the plate size from the preoperative physical characteristics could prove beneficial.

A case of thoracic epidural angiolipoma: CT and MRI findings.

Spinal angiolipomas are rare benign tumors composed of mature adipose cells and blood vessel walls. We report the case of a patient with a spinal epidural angiolipoma who presented with paraplegia and was treated by urgent tumor resection and decompression. The patient was a 79-year-old man who presented to our hospital with a 6-month history of numbness in both lower limbs.
