Pleomorphic adenoma (PA) is a benign salivary gland tumor with diverse cytomorphological and architectural features, typically presenting biphasic ductal structures within a chondromyxoid matrix. We report a unique case of PA where dense lymphoid infiltration disrupted these structures, resulting in duct-like slit structures lined with a single layer of spindle cells, lacking the biphasic pattern. These spindle cells demonstrated myoepithelial nature, confirmed by positive immunostaining for pan-cytokeratin, S100 protein, and calponin.

TND1128, a 5-deazaflavin derivative, is a drug with self-redox ability. We examined the effect of TND1128 on the level of mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨ), which is the most critical motive power for the biosynthesis of ATP. We prepared brain slices from mice pretreated with TND1128 (0.

Intratumoral genomic heterogeneity (ITGH), the existence of genotypic and phenotypic variation within an individual tumor, is known to be a key mechanism in treatment resistance. Deviating gene Expression Profiling Tumor Heterogeneity 2 (DEPTH2) algorithm was developed to estimate ITGH using solely RNA expression data unlike the others that require both DNA- and RNA-expression data. Total of 6,500 breast cancer patients from multiple independent cohorts were analyzed using DEPTH2.

Article Synopsis
  • This study examines how patients with hemiplegia and those with pusher syndrome (who also have unilateral spatial neglect) process their postural vertical using the Romberg test, focusing on the differences in sensory integration with their eyes open or closed.
  • It analyzed a total of 136 patients, finding that both groups showed moderate to severe issues with their integrated subjective postural vertical, but no significant demographic differences or ISPV disparities between them.
  • The research highlights that the pusher behavior is linked to specific sensory integration problems, providing deeper understanding of the unique pathophysiology in patients with pusher syndrome and USN.

Background: Platinum chemotherapy is the cornerstone of treatment for high-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC); however, validated biomarkers that can accurately predict platinum response are lacking. Based on their roles in the underlying pathophysiology, circulating microRNAs are potential, noninvasive biomarkers in cancer. In the present study, we aimed to evaluate the circulating miRNA profiles of patients with HGSOC and to assess their potential utility as biomarkers to predict platinum response.

Backgrounds: Few studies have addressed the risk factors for the development of septic shock in older patients with urinary tract infections. We decided to investigate whether a similar risk exists in in older patients.

Methods: A total of 1478 older patients (492 men, 986 women) aged 65 years or older (mean age 85.

: To explore how Public Health Nurses (PHNs) in Fukushima perceived their roles and activities as necessary or inadequate from the immediate aftermath through the long-term recovery of the nuclear disaster. : We conducted a qualitative study using a self-administered questionnaire with open-ended questions to capture the perceptions of PHNs across three disaster phases: peacetime; nuclear emergency; and recovery. Responses were analyzed through qualitative content analysis.

Background: Despite recent medical advancements, surgery for hilar cholangiocarcinoma is associated with high complication and mortality rates. This may be partly attributed to the absence of established preoperative liver evaluation criteria for safe surgery. This study aimed to propose a reliable indicator for safe and well-planned management of major hepatectomy with extrahepatic bile duct resection.

Background: Endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) has revolutionized the treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms by offering a less invasive alternative to open surgery. Understanding the factors that influence patient outcomes, particularly for high-risk patients, is crucial. The aim of this study was to determine whether machine learning (ML)-based decision tree analysis (DTA), a subset of artificial intelligence, could predict patient outcomes by identifying complex patterns in data.

Understanding muscle response to exercise is critical for optimizing training strategies. This study investigated the effects of dorsiflexion and plantar flexion exercises on T2* values in the tibialis anterior (TA) and soleus (SOL) muscles and explored their relationship with muscle cross-sectional area (MCA), strength, and perceived exertion. Forty participants were divided into two exercise protocols: 30 performed dorsiflexion, 16 performed plantar flexion, and 6 completed both.

Background: Radiology departments present unique challenges compared to other departments due to exposure to radiation and the specialized nature of the work. Nurses must not only manage typical nursing duties but also adhere to strict safety protocols to minimize radiation exposure. These additional responsibilities can significantly impact their work engagement and overall job satisfaction.

Background: Marsupials have a narrower range of forelimb morphological features than placental mammals. It is hypothesized that this is due to a constraint in the reproductive biology of marsupials. The constraint is that newborn marsupials must crawl into their mother's pouch.

Article Synopsis
  • Preoperative embolization for vestibular schwannomas has unclear efficacy, but this study focuses on using only external carotid artery (ECA) feeding arteries to minimize complications associated with other artery embolization.
  • The analysis included 15 patients from a larger group of 805 who underwent tumor removal, showing a significant average tumor volume reduction of 15.3% after ECA embolization.
  • Results indicate that embolization of ECA feeding arteries is an effective method for reducing tumor size and potentially lowering blood loss during surgery, with measurable effects observed within just a few days post-procedure.
