In this study, we found that sevoflurane inhalation in rats prior to intraperitoneal injection decreased stress in both inexperienced experimenters and subject rats. Inexperienced experimenters anaesthetised male Sprague Dawley rats by intraperitoneal injection of anaesthetics, with or without preceding sevoflurane inhalation. Analysis using a visual analogue scale indicated that participating experimenters felt less stress when they performed intraperitoneal injections on rats after subjecting them to sevoflurane inhalation than when performing intraperitoneal injections alone.

Oligo-Recurrence in Lung Cancer; The Most Curable State Among Advanced Disease?

Cancers (Basel)

December 2024

Department of Thoracic Surgery, Tokyo Medical University, Tokyo 160-0023, Japan.

Despite the introduction of effective systemic therapies and advancements in precision medicine, recurrence or progression remains common in advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). For a subset of patients with more localized metastatic disease-referred to as oligometastases and oligo-recurrence-emerging evidence suggests that a multimodal approach combining systemic therapy with local ablative therapies (LATs) may offer curative potential. Oligo-recurrence is defined by the presence of a limited number of metastases and recurrences in patients with controlled primary lesions.

Arterial stiffening is associated with adverse cardiovascular patient outcomes; stiffness may also be associated with postsurgical events and has been suggested to be a fundamental mechanism in the pathogenesis of aortic aneurysms. Although open repair of aneurysms decreases aortic stiffness, implantation of a rigid endograft is associated with increased aortic stiffness after endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR). This review provides an overview of aortic wall physiology and the contemporary understanding of aortic stiffness and its implications for patients undergoing abdominal aortic aneurysm repair.

Background: Wild-type (WT) mice fed a conventional high-fat/high-sucrose diet (HFHSD) rarely develop metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) with HCC. Because mouse bile acid (BA) is highly hydrophilic, we hypothesized that making it hydrophobic would lead to MASH with HCC.

Methods: Eleven-week-old WT and Cyp2a12/Cyp2c70 double knockout (DKO) mice were divided into two groups, including one which was fed a normal chow diet, and one which was fed an HFHSD.
