The lumbo-sacral region has anatomical lordosis and two-dimensional magnetic resonance imaging (2D-MRI) cannot therefore show spinal roots including the dorsal root ganglions in one picture. This makes it difficult to present the lateral part of spinal root lesions. We have recently described a new three-dimensional magnetic resonance imaging (3D-MRI) method which allows a stereoscopic view of the spinal cord and spinal nerve roots.

Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is a neutrophilic dermatosis, which may be associated with systemic conditions such as hematologic disorders. We present a patient who had been diagnosed as having myelodysplastic syndrome associated with PG at onset, in whom a febrile ulcerative skin lesion developed following cytosine arabinoside, aclarubicin and granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) combination chemotherapy in the course of the disease. Skin biopsy revealed dense neutrophilic infiltrate in the dermis with central epidermal ulceration, consistent with the diagnosis of PG.

The management of intra-abdominal desmoid tumors in patients with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) is very difficult. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), anti-estrogenic agents, and steroids are most commonly used, because surgical removal of these tumors may result in severe morbidity, with local recurrence being common. We report a patient with FAP and intra-abdominal desmoid tumors that regressed markedly after prednisolone therapy.
