An interparietal hernia is defined as a hernia in which the hernial sac lies between the tissue layers comprising the abdominal wall. A strangulated interparietal inguinal hernia without an external bulge is a rare cause of an acute abdomen and difficult to diagnose preoperatively. We report a patient with a history of a right inguinal hernia who presented with abdominal pain without inguinal bulging.

Aberrant extrahepatic arteries and variants of biliary anatomy are well known. During surgery in this area, surgeons have to concentrate on avoiding inadvertent injuries to these structures. We present a patient with an aberrant right hepatic artery arising directly from the celiac trunk, resulting in an abnormal path of the cystic artery.

Introduction: Acinetobacter baumannii can cause serious infection in susceptible patients, but little has been published regarding risk factors for infection and outcomes in solid organ transplant (SOT) recipients.
Methods: We identified A. baumannii infection among adult SOT recipients that occurred between January 2001 and March 31, 2008 at a Chicago transplant center and evaluated characteristics of these infections and outcomes.

Emphysematous cholecystitis (EC) is an uncommon variant of acute cholecystitis, which is caused by secondary infection of the gallbladder wall with gas-forming organisms. The mortality rate of EC is still as high as 25%. Emergency surgical intervention is indicated.

Internal hernia is a rare and often overlooked cause of small bowel obstruction. We report a case of internal hernia with an orifice composed of epiploic fat, successfully diagnosed and treated by single-incision laparoscopic surgery. This is the second report of this type of internal hernia and the first reported case addressed laparoscopically.

Mesenteric venous thrombosis is a rare cause of intestinal ischemia which is potentially life-threatening because it can lead to intestinal infarction. Mesenteric venous thrombosis rarely develops after abdominal surgery and is usually associated with coagulation disorders. Associated symptoms are generally subtle or nonspecific, often resulting in delayed diagnosis.

A congenital mesenteric defect is very rare, but can potentially cause internal hernia with consequent incarceration or strangulation of the small intestine.
