Minimum Scaling Model and Exact Exponents for the Nambu-Goldstone Modes in the Vicsek Model.

We investigate the scaling behavior of Nambu-Goldstone modes in the ordered phase of the Vicsek model, introducing a phenomenological equation of motion incorporating a previously overlooked nonlinear term. This term arises from the interaction between velocity fields and density fluctuations, leading to new scaling behaviors. We derive exact scaling exponents in two dimensions, which reproduce the isotropic scaling behavior reported in a prior numerical simulation.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to quantitatively measure the split-step skills of the world's top badminton players to clarify the characteristics underlying these skills when moving into the forehand position in the rear court.

Methods: We analyzed the four best ranking players (1st to 4th) in the men's singles competition at the World Badminton Federation (BWF) World Championships 2023, a world tournament whose match videos are available online. Analysis 1 was conducted to determine the location of the players' feet on the court when performing a split-step while moving to the forehand rear court, as well as the width of the stance and the reaction time from that stance to taking the first step.

We investigate the aging transition in networks of excitable and self-oscillatory units as the fraction of inherently excitable units increases. Two network topologies are considered: a scale-free network with weighted pairwise interactions and a two-dimensional simplicial complex with weighted scale-free pairwise and triadic interactions. Without triadic interactions, the aging transition from collective oscillations to oscillation death (inhomogeneous stationary states) can occur either suddenly or through an intermediate state of partial oscillation.

Objectives: To investigate the pathogenicity of feline herpesvirus-1 (FHV-1) to the cornea, FHV-1 strains isolated from feline eyes with dendritic ulcers were subjected to genomic analysis to determine whether FHV-1 vaccine strains are involved in the formation of dendritic ulcers.

Methods: All open reading frame (ORF) sequences of the three F2 strains (Virbac, Intervet and Merial) and the FHV-1 clinical isolates from cats registered in GenBank were compared to detect nucleotide variants unique to the F2 strains, with those nucleotides then being used for simple genotyping of the F2 strains. In all isolates from feline eyes with dendritic ulcers, the regions including nucleotide variants of the F2 strain were amplified with PCR and sequenced.

Background: Apolipoprotein E (APOE) ε4 is a significant genetic risk factor for late-onset Alzheimer's Disease and appears to be closely related with brain amyloidosis. Current identification methods for APOE ε4 carriers are mostly based on genotyping which cannot always predict the specific ApoE protein isoform. We present a case study of a sample with a discordant result for genotype compared to the protein isoform (proteotype) and we reflect on possible implications for future applications.

Background: Recent genome-wide association analysis has identified Bridging Integrator 1 (BIN1) as one of the genetic risk factors for late-onset AD. In AD patients, single nucleotide polymorphisms in BIN1 correlate well with tau pathology, suggesting the involvement of BIN1 in the formation and propagation of tau accumulation pathology, but the molecular mechanism and point of action remain unclear.
