Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted to evaluate how well pathologists agree on diagnosing type 1 autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) using tissue samples from endoscopic biopsies, specifically how they distinguish it from pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC).
  • After providing guidelines, the agreement among pathologists improved significantly, with median sensitivity and specificity for diagnosing PDAC at 95.2% and 100%, respectively.
  • Although most pathologists could identify type 1 AIP in over 60% of the cases, there were still inconsistencies and ambiguities, particularly with certain histological features like ductal lesions, which compromised the overall diagnosis accuracy.

Background: The treatment of internal carotid artery (ICA) - posterior communicating artery aneurysms (ICPC aneurysms) is challenging when a fetal posterior cerebral artery (PCA) arises from the saccular neck. This complex angioarchitecture renders endovascular approaches difficult. Giant thrombosed IC-PC aneurysms are also hard to treat by endovascular coiling because its flow-diversion effect is insufficient.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on the high mortality rate after subarachnoid hemorrhage caused by ruptured vertebral artery dissecting aneurysms (VADAs) and highlights endovascular coil trapping as an effective first-line treatment to prevent rerupture.
  • Researchers analyzed data from 44 patients who underwent various treatment methods, categorizing VADAs based on their relationship to the posterior inferior cerebellar artery (PICA) and identifying prognostic factors that affect outcomes and complications.
  • Key findings show that while periprocedural rebleeding is linked to poor outcomes, internal coil trapping and surgical flow alteration methods effectively prevented rerupture in specific types of VADAs without significant complications.
