This retrospective study aimed to kinematically classify mandibular movements collected during Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD) treatment, employing Fourier transformation (FT), Principal Component Analysis (PCA), and K-means clustering (k-means), and to investigate their correlation with symptoms of pain-related TMD. The study included five TMD participants diagnosed with myalgia (age: 39-86 years, with an SD of 18.96) and three healthy participants (age: 32-42 years, with an SD of 5.

Purpose: To re-evaluate images recovered from JCOG0911, a randomized phase 2 trial for newly diagnosed glioblastoma (nGBM) conducted by the Japan Clinical Oncology Group (JCOG) Brain Tumor Study Group.
Methods: The correlation between tumor volumes and survival was evaluated, followed by progression-free survival (PFS) analysis by independent central review based on Response Assessment in Neuro-Oncology (RANO) criteria using MRI recovered from 118 nGBM patients enrolled in the JCOG0911 trial. A radiomic analysis was also performed to identify radiomic features predictive of nGBM prognosis.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) have imposed a substantial burden on population health and society. In Japan, the National Plan for the Promotion of Measures Against Cerebrovascular and Cardiovascular Disease, grounded in national legislation, seeks to improve the quality of care and standardize treatment for cerebrovascular disease and CVD. The plan emphasizes the need to develop standardized systems for collecting and disseminating medical information, as well as promoting data-driven research.

Brown and beige adipocytes utilize a variety of substrates for cold-induced thermogenesis, contributing to the clearance of metabolites in circulation and, consequently, metabolic health. Food-derived compounds that exhibit agonistic activity at temperature-sensitive transient receptor potential channels may serve as cold mimics to elicit thermogenesis and substrate utilization in brown adipose tissue (BAT). In addition to fatty acids and glucose, branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs), which are essential amino acids obtained from foods, are actively catabolized in BAT through mitochondrial BCAA carrier (MBC).

Orthopedic implants such as arthroplasty prostheses, fracture plates, and intramedullary nails often use materials like Ti6Al4V alloy and commercially pure titanium (CP-Ti), which have Young's modulus significantly higher than that of human cortical bone, potentially causing stress shielding and inhibiting effective fracture healing. TiNbSn alloy, a β-type titanium alloy with a lower Young's modulus (40-49 GPa), has shown promise in reducing stress shielding and enhancing bone healing by promoting effective load sharing with bone. This study used 5-hole plates made from TiNbSn alloy and CP-Ti to investigate their effects on bone healing in a rat femoral fracture model.

Objectives: Systemic sclerosis is characterised by ischaemic skin ulcers on the fingertips, and low-energy shock wave therapy is suggested as a novel treatment for ischaemic lesions with angiogenic effects. We aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of shock wave therapy for skin ulcers in patients with systemic sclerosis.
Methods: In this phase 3 pivotal study, we analysed 60 systemic sclerosis patients with digital ulcers that did not disappear after >4 weeks of existing treatment: 30 patients were treated with extracorporeal shock wave therapy and 30 with conventional treatment.

Paternal health and exposure to adverse environments in the period prior to conception have a profound impact on future generations. Adversities such as stress, diet, and toxicants influence offspring health. Emerging evidence indicates that epigenetic mechanisms including noncoding RNA, DNA methylation, and chromatin remodelling mediate these effects.

Phototherapy has emerged as a promising treatment for Bell's palsy, offering potential improvements in facial nerve function and overall well-being. In this study, we selected seven relevant studies involving 306 patients with subacute or acute Bell's palsy from PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Scopus before June 5, 2024. Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) efficacy for facial nerve paralysis was assessed in seven studies.

Background: Streptococcal toxic shock syndrome (STSS) is a notifiable disease under Japan's Infectious Disease Control Law and has become a pandemic following COVID-19. STSS often leads to necrotizing fasciitis, with a mortality rate exceeding 30%. Even in surviving patients, limb amputations are common.

A female patient aged in her 50s had presented with the onset of follicular lymphoma (FL) with left mandibular swelling, with a pathological grade of 1 and clinical stage of Ⅳ (Ann Arbor staging). Cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, prednisolone, and rituximab (R-CHOP) resulted in complete molecular remission (CMR). The patient experienced two recurrences, and treatments were successful; however, the side effect of continuous lymphocytopenia existed eight years after the onset.

Targeting the drug tolerant persister (DTP) state in cancer cells should prevent further development of resistance mechanisms. This study explored combination therapies to inhibit alectinib-induced DTP cell formation from anaplastic lymphoma kinase-positive non-small cell lung cancer (ALK + NSCLC) patient-derived cells. After drug-screening 3114 compounds, pan-HER inhibitors (ErbB pathway) and tankyrase1/2 inhibitors (Wnt/β-catenin signaling) emerged as top candidates to inhibit alectinib-induced DTP cells growth.

Pembrolizumab-containing regimens are the standard first-line treatment for recurrent/metastatic squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (R/M HNSCC). The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and C-reactive protein-to-albumin ratio (CAR) have been reported to be important prognostic factors in a variety of carcinomas, but none have been investigated in combination with pembrolizumab and chemotherapy or in first-line treatment. Seventy-four patients with R/M HNSCC received pembrolizumab-containing regimens at Tohoku University Hospital, Sendai, Japan, from April 2020 to March 2023.
