Hypertension increases the risk of cerebrovascular disease and death. In addition to aerobic exercise, which is currently recommended for its antihypertensive effects, recent studies have suggested that dynamic and isometric resistance exercises also have antihypertensive effects. However, the magnitude of the antihypertensive effect of such resistance exercises is not well known.

Background: Spontaneous anterior interosseous nerve (AIN) palsy is characterized by the sudden onset of upper limb pain followed by weakness of muscles mainly innervated by the AIN. Although this palsy is conventionally treated conservatively, interfascicular neurolysis to release hourglass-like fascicular constrictions has been recommended. The present study aimed to establish the clinical characteristics and treatment strategy for this condition.

Although hypertension is a major cause of cardiovascular disease, the control of blood pressure (BP) is insufficient worldwide. Exercise is an effective treatment for reducing BP, but the differences in the blood pressure lowering effects of exercise according to the underlying pathophysiological condition, the type of exercise, and the geographic region are not fully understood. An umbrella review with a meta-analysis of 435 randomized controlled trials that investigated the BP-lowering effects of exercise was performed using Ovid MEDLINE and the Cochrane Library, covering the period from inception to August 1, 2023.

Background: Precise skin phenotypic data are indispensable in accurately diagnosing atopic dermatitis (AD). Therefore, this study examined the interobserver concordance for AD and non-AD diagnoses between two dermatologists. AD prevalence determined by the self-reported physician diagnoses and the diagnoses determined from the United Kingdom (UK) diagnostic criteria were compared with the diagnoses made by the two dermatologists, using data from a skin health survey.

The purpose of this study was to prospectively investigate the progression of cartilage thinning in patients with symptomatic rotator cuff tears using MRI. Two hundred twenty-five consecutive patients with symptomatic rotator cuff tears visited our institute between 2009 and 2019. Of these, 28 shoulders of 27 patients (mean age, 65 years) who underwent at least two magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations were prospectively enrolled.

Tonsillectomy with steroid pulse therapy (SPT) has been established as an effective treatment for immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN) in Japan. However, the underlying mechanisms supporting tonsillectomy remain unclear. This study assessed palatine tonsils from 77 patients with IgAN, including 14 and 63 who received SPT before and after tonsillectomy, respectively.

The risk of Hill-Sachs lesion (HSL) to cause instability depends not only on the HSL but also on the glenoid size. Clinically, the only method to assess the risk of instability considering the dynamic interaction of both, the HSL together with the glenoid bone loss, is the glenoid track concept. Since it was introduced in a cadaveric study, its clinical efficacy and validity have been reported in the literature.

Background: We have proposed the concept of glenoid track ("on-track/off-track" lesion) to evaluate the risk of engagement of the Hill-Sachs lesion with the glenoid after arthroscopic Bankart repair. This concept has been widely used and many clinical validation studies have been reported. To measure the glenoid track width, we have recommended to use 3-dimensional computed tomography (CT) images.

Neurolymphomatosis (NL) is a rare complication of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, characterized by the infiltration of lymphoma cells into the peripheral nerves. A 54-year-old woman initially presented with right facial palsy without any other significant symptoms and was diagnosed with Bell's palsy. Despite initial improvement, her condition recurred, prompting further evaluation.

The gene has been identified as one of the genes responsible for non-syndromic sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL), and assigned as DFNA73 and DFNB84. To date, about 30 causative variants have been reported to cause SNHL. However, the detailed clinical features of -associated hearing loss (HL) remain unclear.

Background: In patients with traumatic posterior shoulder instability, little is known about the precise location and size of the reverse Hill-Sachs lesion.
Methods: Forty-nine shoulders of 47 patients with traumatic posterior instability were included in this study based on the following inclusion criteria: (1) a primary or recurrent traumatic posterior shoulder dislocation and (2) the initial event being caused by trauma. Patients were excluded if they had (1) no history of trauma, (2) prior shoulder surgery, (3) no computed tomographic (CT) examination, or (4) were seizure cases.

Background And Aim: We previously identified that ever-smoking and severe gastric atrophy in pepsinogen are risk factors for synchronous gastric cancers (SGCs). This study aimed to determine the association of alcohol drinking status or alcohol-related genetic polymorphism with SGCs and also stratify their risk.
Methods: This multi-center prospective cohort study included patients who underwent endoscopic submucosal dissection for the initial early gastric cancers at 22 institutions in Japan.

Introduction: We examined the associations among disease-related symptoms, health-related quality of life (HRQOL), and sense of coherence (SOC) in Japanese patients with ulcerative colitis (UC).
Methods: This cross-sectional survey involved patients and physicians at 23 hospitals specializing in UC treatment in Japan (December 2019-December 2020). Multiple linear regression analysis was performed using scores on the Mental Health and General Health subscales of the Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey as outcomes and SOC as the main independent variable.

Methods: In total, 84 participants used a telemedicine platform to complete CAT weekly for 52 weeks.
