Differentiating patients by age and causative bacterial morphology might aid in making the appropriate choice of antimicrobial agent when treating acute uncomplicated cystitis. In this retrospective analysis, the non-susceptibility rates of the causative bacteria to cefcapene-pivoxil (CFPN-PI) and levofloxacin (LVFX) were determined after dividing patients with acute uncomplicated cystitis by age group (15-54 and 55-74 years old) and by bacterial morphology: gram-positive cocci (GPC) or gram-negative rod (GNR). The overall non-susceptibility rates for CFPN-PI and LVFX were 19.

Purpose: Complex fetal behavior involving multiple parts of the body, called general movement (GM), has been considered an essential predictor of neurological functional development because it directly reflects the integrity of the brain and central and peripheral nervous systems. We have developed a novel method for quantitative analysis of fetal behavior using four-dimensional ultrasound (4DUS) and conducted a pilot study for quantitative assessment of fetal GM in the early second trimester.
Methods: All subjects underwent 4DUS to depict the whole fetal body, and maximum velocity (MAXV), median velocity (MV), average velocity (AV), and mode velocity (MOV) were calculated by utilizing optical flow analysis.

Low-grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasms are rare and difficult to diagnose preoperatively because of a lack of characteristic symptoms. A 24-year-old female with no symptoms before pregnancy underwent an elective cesarean section at 38 weeks of gestation because of cephalo-pelvic disproportion. Although no abnormalities were detected in the newborn, uterus, or uterine adnexa, a sausage-like, swollen appendix was noted.

Biomarkers that can accurately predict treatment response are required for indicating optimal neoadjuvant treatments. The current study assessed the predictive value of secreted protein acidic and rich in cysteine (SPARC) mRNA expression for the response to neoadjuvant nab-paclitaxel (nab-PTX) therapy in patients with breast cancer. It was hypothesized that SPARC expression can affect the response to albumin-bound taxanes, including nab-PTX since SPARC binds albumin with a high affinity.

To determine whether an antepartum educational leaflet distributed to parents before infant delivery affected the rate of infant car-seat (ICS) use 1 month after delivery, because to the best of our knowledge, only few reports have evaluated systematic attempts to improve the rate of always ICS use by mothers driving infants A multicenter questionnaire survey targeting pregnant Japanese women seeking antenatal care at the outpatient clinics of eight hospitals was designed. Women enrolled during the first half of the study period did not receive leaflets describing ICS safety guidelines (control group). Women enrolled during the latter half of the study period received the leaflet between gestational week 35 and 37 (intervention group).

Anesthesia in Japan has a 200-year history, beginning when Seishū Hanaoka first conducted surgery successfully under general anesthesia in 1804. Despite common belief, Hanaoka was not secretive about his technique using Mafutsusan, and he spawned a generation of Japanese anesthetists, including Gendai Kamada, author of several influential texts. Japanese anesthetists adopted inhalational techniques as they became available.

Umbilical cord cysts (UCC) are a rare congenital malformation. Previous reports have suggested that the second- and third-trimester UCC may be associated with other structural anomalies or chromosomal abnormalities. Therefore, high-quality imaging is clinically important for the antenatal diagnosis of UCC and to conduct a precise anatomical survey of intrauterine abnormalities.
