Endothelial dysfunction in prediabetes and diabetes mellitus in patients with normal coronary arteries.

Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a global health issue associated with increased cardiovascular disease risk. Endothelial dysfunction is a known precursor to atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease, and its role in the pathogenesis of DM complications is well-documented. There is limited information in the evaluation of endothelial function in prediabetic patients using flow-mediated dilation (FMD), and studies have not excluded patients with known atherosclerosis or coronary artery disease.

Evaluation of Dry Eye Disease Characteristics of Children With Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and MODY.

Purpose: To assess dry eye disease characteristics of pediatric patients with diabetes.

Methods: Twenty-one patients with type-1 diabetes mellitus (DM), 20 with type-2 DM, 19 with maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY), and 20 control participants were included in the study. Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) questionnaire, tear film break-up time (TBUT) analysis, Schirmer test with anesthesia, and conjunctival impression cytologic analysis were performed.

The effect of hydrochlorothiazide on the recurrence of nonmelanoma skin cancer: a 7-year retrospective study comprising 300 patients.

Background: Hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) possesses well-described photosensitizing properties, and a causal association with nonmelanoma skin cancer (NMSC) was recently shown. However, previous studies have not shown whether HCTZ use is associated with the risk of recurrence of basal cell carcinoma (BCC) or squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). This study aims to investigate the association between HCTZ use and recurrence in patients with NMSC.

Postoperative Chronic Pain Syndrome and Risk Factors in Patients with Breast Surgery.

Objective: To investigate the incidence of chronic postoperative pain after different types of breast surgery, and investigate the risk factors associated with chronic postoperative pain.

Comparison of endovenous laser ablation and cyanoacrylate embolization in the non-invasive treatment of superficial venous insufficiency in terms of patient satisfaction.

Objective: Ablation with n-butyl cyanoacrylate is a clinically newer technique than endovenous laser ablation and other interventional techniques in the treatment of chronic venous insufficiency (CVI). The aim of this study was to compare the endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) and n-butyl cyanoacrylate (NBCA) interventional techniques in terms of benefit, effectiveness, and patient satisfaction.

First report of surgery for anencephaly in twin pregnancies: Technical notes and postoperative management.

Anencephaly, the most severe form of neural tube defect, has no known cure, and in most cases, patients die before or shortly after birth. To date, no surgical intervention has been reported in the management of anencephaly. This study presents a case of dichorionic-diamniotic twin pregnancy in which 1 twin was anencephalic and describes the surgical management of this complex case.

Assessment of Tear Meniscus Dimensions Using Anterior Segment Optical Coherence Tomography in Vitamin D Deficiency in a Pediatric Population.

Background: To investigate of the effect of vitamin D (Vit-D) deficiency on the tear film in children and compare it with that of healthy subjects.

Methods: This prospective and cross-sectional study comprised 75 eyes of children who had Vit-D deficiency (Group 1) and 85 eyes of age- and gender-matched healthy children (Group 2). The tear-film break-up time (TF-BUT) and Schirmer test values, as well as the Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) scores, were recorded for the participants in all groups.

Alterations in the choroidal thickness and retinal vascular caliber in keratoconus.

Purpose: To compare the choroidal thickness (CT) and retinal vascular caliber in the differentiation of patients who have keratoconus (KC) from those of astigmatic and normal patients.

Methods: This was a prospective, cross-sectional study. A total of 72 patients who had KC, 70 who had astigmatism, and 83 healthy control subjects were enrolled in this study.

Objectives: Double pituitary adenoma is a rare entity that can pose a significant challenge. The incidence of double or multiple pituitary adenomas is ∼1% in autopsy cases and 0.4-1.

Dual ophthalmic arteries: a new case.

We report one retinoblastoma patient with dual ophthalmic arteries (also known as "double ophthalmic arteries") arising from the internal carotid artery which fuse with each other inside the orbit. The caudal ophthalmic artery with larger caliber originated from the cavernous segment of internal carotid artery and passed through the superior orbital fissure. The cranial and tiny one arose more cranially from the supraclinoid internal carotid artery and passed through the optic canal.

Evaluation of Retinal Layer Thicknesses in Patients with Keratoconus Using Retinal Layer Segmentation Analysis.

Objective: To conduct an evaluation of the effects of irregular astigmatism on the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) and the retinal layers observed using spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) in patients who had keratoconus (KC).

Materials And Methods: A total of 255 eyes from 255 individuals, comprising 72 eyes of KC patients, 70 eyes of patients with astigmia, and 113 eyes of healthy controls were included in the analysis. RNFL scan maps (comprising global, temporal, superotemporal, inferotemporal, nasal, inferonasal, and superonasal maps) and macular thickness (MT) maps of a standard from the Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study (ETDRS) grid were assessed.

Genetic Profiling of Pediatric Patients with B-Cell Precursor Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

B-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia (BCP-ALL) is a heterogeneous leukemia subgroup. It has multiple sub-types that are likely to be classified by prognostic factors. Following a systematic literature review, this study analyzed the genes correlated with BCP-ALL prognosis ( and , specifically their nucleotide variations and expression profiles in pediatric BCP-ALL samples.

Evaluation of clinical and mpMRI findings of irreversible electroporation therapy for the treatment of localized prostate cancer: Preliminary results.

Objective: To evaluate early clinical and multiparametric prostate magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) results of irreversible electroporation (IRE) efficiency in treatment of localized prostate cancer.

Material And Methods: For the patients in whom IRE was performed for local ablation, mpMRI was used for the sixth month follow-up. These images were compared with the mpMRI images obtained before the procedure.

The effect of model-based telephone counseling on HbA1c and self-management for individuals with type 2 diabetes: A randomized controlled trial.

Aims: This study was conducted to examine the effect of telephone counseling based on the Information, Motivation, Behavioral Skills (IMB) Model on HbA1c and self-management in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

Methods: This study was conducted between January 2019 and September 2019 with a total of 63 (31 interventions, 32 controls) T2DM patients. The intervention group was followed-up for a total of 12 weeks, after 45-60 min of patient training based on IMB, a weekly reminder message and a phone call every two weeks.

Remote patient monitoring after cardiac surgery: The utility of a novel telemedicine system.

Objective: We examined cardiac surgery patients who underwent monitoring of postoperative vital parameters using medical monitoring devices which transferred data to a mobile application and a web-based software.

Methods: From November 2017 to November 2020, a total of 2340 patients were enrolled in the remote patient monitoring system after undergoing cardiac surgery. The medical devices recorded vital parameters, such as blood pressure, pulse rate, saturation, body temperature, blood glucose, and electrocardiography were measured via the Health Monitor DakikApp and Holter ECG DakikApp devices which reported data to web-based software and a mobile application (DakikApp Mobile Systems, Remscheid, Germany).

Radiofrequency catheter ablation of patients with permanent junctional reciprocating tachycardia and long-term follow-up results.

Background: Permanent junctional reciprocating tachycardia (PJRT) is an infrequent form of atrioventricular re-entrant tachycardia. We report the clinical and electrophysiological properties of PJRT and outcomes of radiofrequency catheter ablation (RCA) in a large group of patients.

Methods: We included 62 patients with the diagnosis of PJRT.

The impact of timing for estrogen supplementation in polycystic ovary syndrome patients undergoing primed in vitro maturation.

Objective: This study aims to determine the effects of early and late onset estrogen supplementation on the immature oocyte retrieval, fertilization and clinical pregnancy rates in follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and human chorionic hormone (hCG) primed in vitro maturation (IVM) cycles of the patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

Methods: This is a retrospective analysis of 161 patients with PCOS who underwent FSH and hCG primed IVM. Group 1 included 120 patients who received early onset estrogen supplementation while group 2 consisted of 41 patients who had late onset estrogen supplementation in primed IVM cycles.
