Firsts in their field: the perceptions of women who have led the way.

The role women play in sport has been the subject of considerable discussion and research since the nineteen seventies. Much of this research has been descriptive or focused on the barriers, women face in advancing into a leadership role in a sporting organization. In an attempt to enrich the picture, women role models who occupy or have occupied leadership roles in sporting organizations were identified to gain their perspective, in their own words, on the challenges and requirements needed to be successful.

Vaccines that cross-protect across serovars of () would be a beneficial intervention against emerging and persistent isolates of concern for the turkey industry. The 2017-2019 foodborne outbreak of serovar Reading (. Reading) revealed the need for effective control of this serovar in turkey production.

Filsuvez (Birch Triterpenes) Topical Gel.

Filsuvez (birch triterpenes) topical gel received approval in 2023 for the treatment of epidermolysis bullosa (EB) in pediatric patients (aged ≥6 months) and adults. It promotes wound healing by modulating inflammation, encouraging new tissue formation, and maintaining the skin barrier. In a randomized, double-blind, controlled, parallel-group, phase III trial (EASE, NCT03068780), 223 patients were randomly assigned to two groups: the first group received treatment with birch triterpenes topical gel (study gel, n = 109), and the second group received treatment with vehicle gel (n = 114).

Zelsuvmi (Berdazimer) Topical Gel.

Zelsuvmi (berdazimer) topical gel has been approved recently for the treatment of molluscum contagiosum (MC) in patients aged ≥1 year. In three phase 3, randomized, double-blind, vehicle-controlled trials of similar design, berdazimer was investigated for the treatment of MC. Berdazimer or vehicle was applied once daily on MC lesions until complete lesion clearance was observed or for up to 12 weeks.

Clinical impacts of Artocarpus lakoocha agglutinin-binding glycans for prognosis and treatment of cholangiocarcinoma.

Artocarpus lakoocha agglutinin (ALA), which specifically targets the Gal/GalNAc components of complex glycans, was isolated from the seeds of Artocarpus lakoocha. This study is the first to explore the role of ALA in identifying aberrant glycans, designated ALA-binding glycans (ALAG), and its implications in cholangiocarcinoma (CCA). ALA-histochemistry was used to evaluate ALAG expression in liver fluke-induced CCA tissues from hamsters (n = 60).

Moiré band structure engineering using a twisted boron nitride substrate.

Applying long wavelength periodic potentials on quantum materials has recently been demonstrated to be a promising pathway for engineering novel quantum phases of matter. Here, we utilize twisted bilayer boron nitride (BN) as a moiré substrate for band structure engineering. Small-angle-twisted bilayer BN is endowed with periodically arranged up and down polar domains, which imprints a periodic electrostatic potential on a target two-dimensional (2D) material placed on top.

Influence of false lumen status on systemic inflammatory response triggered by acute aortic dissection.

We investigated the influence of false lumen (FL) status on the systemic inflammatory response triggered by acute aortic dissection (AAD) using cytokine profiling. The study included 44 patients with AAD. Patients were divided between those with a thrombosed FL (Group T, n = 21) and those with a non-thrombosed FL (Group P, n = 23).

The impact of common and rare genetic variants on bradyarrhythmia development.

To broaden our understanding of bradyarrhythmias and conduction disease, we performed common variant genome-wide association analyses in up to 1.3 million individuals and rare variant burden testing in 460,000 individuals for sinus node dysfunction (SND), distal conduction disease (DCD) and pacemaker (PM) implantation. We identified 13, 31 and 21 common variant loci for SND, DCD and PM, respectively.

We report on discovering the homogeneous boiling within a liquid film residual resting in equilibrium over a melting ice block. This phenomenon was induced via longwave infrared radiation generated by a continuous wave [Formula: see text] laser. This investigation employed a high-speed camera and the Schlieren visualization technique.

Integrating electronic health records and GWAS summary statistics to predict the progression of autoimmune diseases from preclinical stages.

Autoimmune diseases often exhibit a preclinical stage before diagnosis. Electronic health record (EHR) based-biobanks contain genetic data and diagnostic information, which can identify preclinical individuals at risk for progression. Biobanks typically have small numbers of cases, which are not sufficient to construct accurate polygenic risk scores (PRS).

Genetic control - the deliberate introduction of genetic traits to control a pest or vector population - offers a powerful tool to augment conventional mosquito control tools that have been successful in reducing malaria burden but that are compromised by a range of operational challenges. Self-sustaining genetic control strategies have shown great potential in laboratory settings, but hesitancy due to their invasive and persistent nature may delay their implementation. Here, instead, we describe a self-limiting strategy, designed to have geographically and temporally restricted effect, based on a Y chromosome-linked genome editor (YLE).

Mitochondrial dysfunction is a key factor in exacerbating pressure overload-induced cardiac hypertrophy and is linked to increased morbidity and mortality. ECSIT, a crucial adaptor for inflammation and mitochondrial function, has been reported to express multiple transcripts in various species and tissues, leading to distinct protein isoforms with diverse subcellular localizations and functions. However, whether an unknown ECSIT isoform exists in cardiac cells and its potential role in regulating mitochondrial function and pathological cardiac hypertrophy has remained unclear.

Longitudinal associations between intersectional stigmas, antiretroviral therapy adherence, and viral load among women living with HIV using multidimensional latent transition item response analysis.

Background: In the US, Women, especially Black and Latina women living in disadvantaged environments, are disproportionally affected by HIV. Women living with HIV (WLHIV) have higher rates of suboptimal antiretroviral therapy (ART) adherence, and detectable viral load (VL). Experiences of intersectional poverty, HIV, gender, and racial stigmas may increase the rates of detectable VL through suboptimal ART adherence.

A Multidisciplinary Approach to Navigating Variants of Uncertain Significance in Sudden Infant Deaths: A Case Report of 2 Siblings With an SCN10A VUS.

The sudden death of a previously healthy infant is a devastating event for a family-the death of 2 even more unimaginable. Prior to the debunking of Meadow's law, a legal concept attributing multiple unexplained infant deaths to Munchausen by proxy, these events could lead to the wrongful prosecution of those who had lost their children to "sudden unexpected infant death (SUID)." Today, these cases, wherein multiple infants within one family pass inexplicably, raise suspicion for a possible genetic cause and point toward a need for postmortem genetic testing.

Preliminary Examination of the Stability of Sequential Associations Between the Talk of Educators and Autistic Preschoolers Using Generalizability Theory.

Purpose: Estimating the sequential associations between educators' and children's talk during language learning interactions requires careful consideration of factors that may impact measurement stability and resultant inferences. This research note will describe a preliminary study that used generalizability theory to understand the contribution of two measurement conditions- and -on estimates of sequential associations between educator talk and autistic preschooler talk in inclusive preschool classrooms.

Method: We used an existing data set of four 15-min video-recorded occasions of educator-child interactions for 11 autistic preschoolers during free-play in their inclusive classroom.

Water quality assessment of Johor River Basin, Malaysia, using multivariate analysis and spatial interpolation method.

In the Johor River Basin, a comprehensive analysis was conducted on 24 water environmental parameters across 33 sampling sites over 3 years, encompassing both dry and wet seasons. A total of 396 water samples were collected and analyzed to calculate the Water Quality Index (WQI). To further assess water quality and pinpoint potential pollution sources, multivariate techniques such as principal component analysis (PCA) and cluster analysis (CA), alongside spatial analysis using inverse distance weighted (IDW) interpolation, were employed.

Physicians-in-training and advanced practice providers perceptions in managing perioperative obstructive sleep apnea: a multi-institutional survey.

Study Objectives: Physicians-in-training (residents, fellows) and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) receive limited education on sleep disorders, including obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). They often assess patients first. We aimed to understand their views on OSA and screening for OSA in the perioperative period.

Purpose To investigate the determinants and effect of right ventricular (RV) dysfunction in aortic regurgitation (AR) using cardiac MRI. Materials and Methods This study included patients with moderate or severe AR who were enrolled in the DEBAKEY-CMR registry between January 2009 and June 2020. Patients with previous valve intervention, cardiomyopathy deemed unrelated to AR, severe aortic stenosis, and other confounders were excluded.
