Atherosclerosis, a major contributor to cardiovascular disease, involves lipid accumulation and inflammatory processes in arterial walls, with oxidized low-density lipoprotein (OxLDL) playing a central role. OxLDL is increased during aging and stimulates monocyte transformation into foam cells and induces metabolic reprogramming and pro-inflammatory responses, accelerating atherosclerosis progression and contributing to other age-related diseases. Deoxyhypusine synthase (DHPS) is an enzyme encoded by the DHPS gene, with high expression in various cancers, including ovarian cancer (OC). DHPS regulates the translation initiation factor EIF5A, and EIF5A2 knockout inhibits OC tumor growth and metastasis by blocking the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and the TGFβ pathway. In this study, we show that DHPS is amplified in OC patients, and its elevated expression correlates with poor survival.

Effective targeting of somatic cancer mutations to enhance the efficacy of cancer immunotherapy requires an individualized approach. Autogene cevumeran is a uridine messenger RNA lipoplex-based individualized neoantigen-specific immunotherapy designed from tumor-specific somatic mutation data obtained from tumor tissue of each individual patient to stimulate T cell responses against up to 20 neoantigens. This ongoing phase 1 study evaluated autogene cevumeran as monotherapy (n = 30) and in combination with atezolizumab (n = 183) in pretreated patients with advanced solid tumors.

Understanding the performance and microbial succession in nitrogen removal using fermentation liquid as carbon source can provide a practical basis for treating low C/N ratio wastewater. In this study, three typical fermentation liquids of food waste (FW) enriched with lactic acid (LA), propionic acid (PA), and butyric acid (BA) were added to high ammonia and high salt (HAHS) wastewater treatment process. Results showed that effluent TN decreased from 50 mg/L to around 15 mg/L with the influent concentration around 1000 mg/L after adding fermentation liquid enriched with LA and PA.

We systematically investigate the magnetization and thermodynamic responses associated with antiferromagnetic (AFM) transitions in single crystals of the magnetic semiconductor Eu3InAs3. The linear thermal expansion measurements around the AFM transition temperatures, TN1 and TN2, indicate an expansion along the a axis and contraction along the b and c axes. The calculated ∆V/V(T) shows a continuous change at TN, indicating a second-order magnetic phase transition.

Youth living with HIV (YLWH) have high rates of virologic failure due to medication non-adherence. is a novel, gamified mobile health (mHealth) application designed with user-centered principles to improve medication adherence by integrating medication reminders with social and financial incentives, virtual peer social support and early clinic outreach for non-adherent YLWH in Nigeria. Mars Sample Return (MSR) has been the highest flagship mission priority in the last two Planetary Decadal Surveys of the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine (hereafter, "the National Academies") and was the highest priority flagship for Mars in the Decadal Survey that preceded them. This inspirational and challenging campaign, like the Apollo program's returned lunar samples, will potentially revolutionize our understanding of Mars and help inform how other planets are explored. MSR's technological advances will keep the NASA and European Space Agency at the forefront of planetary exploration, and data on returned samples will fill knowledge gaps for future human exploration.

Quantitative abdominal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) offers non-invasive, objective assessment of diseases in the liver, pancreas, and other organs and is increasingly being used in the pediatric population. Certain quantitative MRI techniques, such as liver proton density fat fraction (PDFF), R2* mapping, and MR elastography, are already in wide clinical use.
