Despite the long research history on the genus Coelastrella, its species diversity and biotechnological potential have not been fully explored. For the first time, cluster analysis of morphological characteristics was done in the representatives of the said genus. The results obtained have shown that morphological similarity does not necessarily indicate a molecular genetic relationship.

Inborn errors of immunity are known to influence susceptibility to mycobacterial infections. The aim of this study was to characterize the genetic profile of nine patients with mycobacterial infections (eight with BCGitis and one with disseminated tuberculosis) from the Republic of Moldova using whole-exome sequencing. In total, 12 variants in eight genes known to be associated with Mendelian Susceptibility to Mycobacterial Disease (MSMD) were detected in six out of nine patients examined.

Polymorphisms in genes that control immune function and regulation may influence susceptibility to pulmonary tuberculosis (TB). In this study, 14 polymorphisms in 12 key genes involved in the immune response (, , , , , , , , , , , and ) were tested for their association with pulmonary TB in 271 patients with TB and 251 community-matched controls from the Republic of Moldova. In addition, gene-gene interactions involved in TB susceptibility were analyzed for a total of 43 genetic loci.

The effects of climate change and soil salinization on dryland ecosystems are already widespread, and ensuring food security is a crucial challenge. In this article, we demonstrate changes in growth performance and seed quality of a new high-yielding quinoa genotype (Q5) exposed to sodium chloride (NaCl), sodium sulfate (NaSO), and mixed salts (NaCl + NaSO). Differential responses to salt stress in growth performance, seed yield, and seed quality were identified.

The effects of high-intensity light (HIL) on the activity of photosystem II (PSII) and photosynthesis in wild-type (WT) and single (phyB2, phyB1, phyA and cry1), double (phyB1B2, phyAB2 and phyAB1) and triple (phyAB1B2 and cry1phyAB1) mutants of Solanum lycopersicum were studied. In addition, changes in the activity of the antioxidant enzymes ascorbate peroxidase, glutathione reductase and guaiacol peroxidase as well as the photosynthetic pigment and anthocyanin contents in the leaves of phyB2 and cry1phAB1 mutants under HIL were examined. When plants were irradiated with HIL (2 h), the PSII resistance of the cry1phyAB1 mutant was the lowest, while the resistance of WT and single mutants excluding cry1 was the highest.

Toll-like receptors (TLRs) play a critical role in initiating an immune response to infections. In this study, we examined whether single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in TLR pathway genes are associated with pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) in a Moldavian population. Thirty-four SNPs in genes associated with the TLR pathway and two SNPs in ASAP1 gene identified by GWAS were selected for genotyping in 272 patients and 251 community-matched healthy controls.

The antioxidant balance, photochemical activity of photosystem II (PSII), and photosynthetic pigment content, as well as the expression of genes involved in the light signalling of callus lines of Eutrema salsugineum plants (earlier Thellungiella salsuginea) under different spectral light compositions were studied. Growth of callus in red light (RL, maximum 660 nm), in contrast to blue light (BL, maximum 450 nm), resulted in a lower HO content and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS). The BL increased the activities of key antioxidant enzymes in comparison with the white light (WL) and RL and demonstrated the minimum level of PSII photochemical activity.

Ethylene rapidly and transiently up-regulates the activity of several monomeric GTP-binding proteins (monomeric G proteins) in leaves of Arabidopsis as determined by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis and autoradiographic analyses. The activation is suppressed by the receptor-directed inhibitor 1-methylcyclopropene. In the etr1-1 mutant, constitutive activity of all the monomeric G proteins activated by ethylene is down-regulated relative to wild type, and ethylene treatment has no effect on the levels of activity.
