[Sham acupuncture and placebo acupuncture in clinical trials].

Zhongguo Zhen Jiu

July 2023

China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences.

The commonly used terms "sham acupuncture" and "placebo acupuncture" in clinical acupuncture research is compared and analyzed in this article. In terms of their respective characteristics, sham acupuncture has a wider scope, including various types of acupoints, needle insertion at non-acupoint or non-insertion at acupoints, while placebo acupuncture mainly focuses on non-insertion at acupoints. Sham acupuncture mainly emphasizes the appearance similarity to real acupuncture, while placebo acupuncture emphasizes both similarity in appearance and the absence of therapeutic effects.

Simultaneous detection of mixed bacteria accurately and sensitively is a major challenge in microbial quality control field. In this study, we proposed a label-free SERS technique coupled with partial least squares regression (PLSR) and artificial neural networks (ANNs) for quantitative analysis of Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella typhimurium simultaneously. SERS-active and reproducible Raman spectra can be acquired directly upon the bacteria and Au@Ag@SiO nanoparticle composites on the surface of gold foil substrates.

Research Center of Experimental Acupuncture Science, Tianjin University of TCM, Tianjin 301617, China; School of Chinese Medicine, Tianjin University of TCM, Tianjin 301617; National Clinical Research Center for Chinese Medicine Acupuncture and Moxibustion, Tianjin 301617.

Acupoint is the initial response site of acupuncture stimulus and also the source link of the effect onset of acupuncture. Acupuncture is a mechanical physical stimulus. How is the mechanical force of acupuncture transduced into neuroelectrical and biochemical signals at acupoint? How does the physiochemical information of acupoint launch acupuncture effect? All of these remain the common and crucial questions in the study of acupuncture effect mechanism.

The paper introduces professor -'s theoretic ideas and experience in treatment of vertigo. Professor believes that this disease is closely related to the blockage of movement in the middle , opening-closing disarrangement in the pivot, "gate" obstruction, malnutrition of brain orifice and decreased blood flow in the nape. Based on the holistic idea of movement in traditional Chinese medicine and the circulatory theory of western medicine, the characteristics of the specific acupuncture therapy for "regulating the middle , opening gate and relaxing tendon" are summarized.

The paper analyzes the specificity of term recognition in acupuncture clinical literature and compares the advantages and disadvantages of three named entity recognition (NER) methods adopted in the field of traditional Chinese medicine. It is believed that the bi-directional long short-term memory networks-conditional random fields (Bi LSTM-CRF) may communicate the context information and complete NER by using less feature rules. This model is suitable for term recognition in acupuncture clinical literature.
