Background: The best open side for unilateral open-door laminoplasty (UODL) to treat inconsistent cervical ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL) needs to be identified.
Methods: Thirty-one individuals with inconsistent OPLL who underwent UODL between January 2016 and December 2018 were retrospectively divided into two groups: when the side of the open door was consistent with the side of the larger ossification occupancy area, patients were placed in the Consistent group; when the side of the open door was contralateral to the side of the larger ossification occupancy area, patients were placed in the Contralateral group. The following parameters were evaluated: neck disability index (NDI) score, Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) score, visual analog scale (VAS) score, postoperative laminoplasty opening width and angle, and spinal cord diameter ratio.

Zygotic genome activation occurs in two-cell (2C) embryos, and a 2C-like state is also activated in sporadic (~1%) naïve embryonic stem cells in mice. Elevated chromatin accessibility is critical for the 2C-like state to occur, yet the underlying molecular mechanisms remain elusive. Zscan4 exhibits burst expression in 2C embryos and 2C-like cells.

Background: Obesity and insulin resistance (IR) may be risk factors for thyroid disease, but there is no clinical-based consensus on this topic. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the associations between the triglyceride-glucose index (TyG) and its derivatives and Hashimoto thyroiditis (HT) in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients, and explore the relationships between the central obesity indicators and HT risk to provide a reliable basis for the early prevention of HT.
Methods: A total of 1071 T2DM patients aged ≥ 20 years were selected from a tertiary hospital in Tianjin, all of them had normal thyroid function (including free triiodothyronine, free thyroxine, total triiodothyronine, total thyroxine, and thyroid-stimulating hormone).

Excessive fluoride exposure can lead to health problems, such as fluorosis and neurotoxicity. However, effective therapeutic strategies for neurofluorosis remain elusive due to a limited understanding of the underlying molecular mechanisms. This study aimed to investigate the effects of Tanshinone IIA on spinal cord injury induced by high-fluoride exposure.

Unlabelled: The tumor microenvironment (TME) is important in the recurrence and metastasis of colorectal cancer (CRC). Phillygenin is an effective component of that has long been used in cancer therapy. The mechanism by which phillygenin regulates the TME remains unknown.

The study aimed to analyze differentially expressed lncRNAs in a model of cardiac hypertrophy, specially focusing on the molecular mechanisms of lncRNA NONMMUT023529 (lncRNA N29) in myocardial hypertrophy. Based on gene microarray results, RT-qPCR validation confirmed that lncRNA N29 was significantly upregulated in TAC-induced mice cardiac tissues. Echocardiographic assessments further verified that silencing lncRNA N29 led to a marked improvement in cardiac function, which aligned with the pathological findings revealed by H&E and Masson staining.

Gut microbiota/metabolites not only participate in the food and energy metabolism but also contribute to the host immune response and homeostasis. The alternation of gut microbiota/metabolites has been widely related to intestinal and extra-intestinal disorders such as intestinal bowel diseases (IBDs). Bactericidal substances from gut epithelial cells can regulate the composition of gut microbiota.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) continuously ranks as the third most common cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Based on anatomical classifications and clinical diagnoses, CRC is classified into right-sided, left-sided, and rectal CRC. Importantly, the three types of positional-specific CRC affect the prognosis outcomes, thus indicating that positional-specific treatments for CRC are required.

P-phenylenediamine antioxidants (PPDs) are widely used in the rubber industry and their release and transformation in the environment has become one of the current environmental research hotspots. PPDs are readily oxidized in the environment to form quinone transformation products (PPD-Qs), some of which (e.g.

This study investigates the function of a newly identified 127-amino acid peptide, circR-127aa, encoded by hsa_circ_0075402 (circRACK1), in gastric cancer (GC), a condition with significant prevalence in China. Utilizing a comprehensive analysis of circular RNA (circRNA) ribosome profiling data alongside experimental validations through mass spectrometry, Western blot, and immunofluorescence, we demonstrate that circR-127aa Inhibits Malignant Phenotypes and suppresses tumor growth in nude mice models. Significantly, the interaction of circR-127aa with Vimentin, a crucial element in actin-actin-cytoskeletal remodeling, indicates that circR-127aa functions as a tumor suppressor by facilitating the ubiquitination of Vimentin.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), a prevalent and deadly cancer, poses a significant challenge with current treatments due to limitations such as poor stability, off-target effects, and severe side effects. Extracellular vesicles (EVs), derived from tumor cells, have the remarkable ability to home back to their cells of origin and can serve as Trojan horses for drug delivery. CD44, a cell surface glycoprotein, promotes cancer stem cell-like properties and is linked to poor prognosis and resistance to chemotherapy in HCC.

Background: Polyploid giant cancer cells (PGCCs) have properties of cancer stem cells (CSCs). PGCCs with daughter cells (PDCs) undergo epithelial-mesenchymal transition and show enhanced cellular plasticity. This study aimed to elucidate the mechanisms underlying the osteo/chondrogenic-like differentiation of PDCs, which may be exploited therapeutically by transdifferentiation into post-mitotic and functional cells.

Purpose: 8-28% of Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) experience recurrence, complicating risk stratification and treatment. We previously identified an inflammatory molecular subtype of PTC associated with poor prognosis. Based on this subtype, we aimed to develop and validate a noninvasive radiomic signature to predict prognosis and treatment response in PTC patients.

Background: Cellular metabolism regulates the pluripotency of embryonic stem cells (ESCs). Yet, how metabolism regulates the transition among different pluripotent states remains elusive. It has been shown that protein lactylation, which uses lactate, a metabolic product of glycolysis, as a substrate, plays a critical role in various biological events.

Objective: This study investigated the association of Time In Range (TIR) obtained from Blood Glucose Monitoring (BGM) with Cognitive Impairment (CI) inpatients with middle-aged Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) and further explored whether a TIR goal for T2DM in adults with > 70% possess a protective effect on cognitive function.
Research Design And Methods: A total of 274 inpatients with T2DM aged 40-64 years, who underwent seven-point BGM ( pre meals and 120 min post meals and at bedtime) were recruited in this cross-sectional study. TIR was defined as the percentage of blood glucose within the target range of 3.
