Prognostic significance of malignant pleural effusions in patients with advanced luminal B breast cancer.

Background: Though the survival of breast cancer (BC) patients with malignant pleural effusion (MPE) has been studied, this has not been specifically studied in the luminal B subtype. Therefore, this study investigated the characteristics and survival of luminal B-BC patients presenting with MPE.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 141 patients diagnosed with postoperative advanced Luminal B breast cancer, including 54 cases with MPE and 87 cases without MPE at the Tianjin Cancer Hospital from January 2012 to January 2015.

Sodium zirconium cyclosilicate (SZC) is a nonabsorbed cation-exchanger approved in China for the treatment of hyperkalemia [HK; serum potassium (sK) levels >5.0 mmol/L]. This is the first real-world study aimed to assess the effectiveness, safety, and treatment patterns of SZC in Chinese patients with HK.

Introduction: Hyperkalaemia (HK) is a potentially life-threatening electrolyte imbalance associated with several adverse clinical outcomes. Anatomical and Biomechanical Stability of Single/Double Screw-Cancellous Bone Fixations of Regan-Morry Type III Ulnar Coronoid Fractures in Adults: CT Measurement and Finite Element Analysis.

Objective: At present, it is still uncertain whether single screw has the same stability as double screws in the treatment of ulnar coronal process basal fracture (Regan-Morry type III). So, we aimed to compare the pull-out force and anti-rotation torque of anterior single/double screw-cancellous bone fixation (aSSBF, aDSBF) in this fracture, and further study the influencing factors on anatomical and biomechanical stability of smart screw internal fixations.

Methods: A total of 63 adult volunteers with no history of elbow injury underwent elbow CT scanning with associated three-dimensional reconstruction that enabled the measurements of bone density and fixed length of the proximal ulna and coronoid.

Introduction: Nowadays, emerging SARS-CoV-2 Omicron, the novel highly mutated VOC, has quickly spread as the dominant variant in over 190 countries worldwide through the first part of 2022, which is influencing the infectivity, transmissibility, pathogenicity, and severity of COVID-19 pandemic. Association of serum leptin and insulin levels among type 2 diabetes mellitus patients: A case-control study.

Secretion of insulin is compromised in type 2 diabetes (T2DM) individuals and inadequate to accommodate for insulin resistance (IR) in peripheral tissue. Hyperleptinemia reflects leptin resistance, which is a key factor in the production of IR in T2DM patients, making leptin a potential biomarker for evaluating IR levels. The objective of the study was to assess the association of serum leptin and insulin levels among T2DM patients.

Trial of Thrombectomy 6 to 24 Hours after Stroke Due to Basilar-Artery Occlusion.

Background: The effects and risks of endovascular thrombectomy 6 to 24 hours after stroke onset due to basilar-artery occlusion have not been extensively studied.

Methods: In a trial conducted over a 5-year period in China, we randomly assigned, in a 1:1 ratio, patients with basilar-artery stroke who presented between 6 to 24 hours after symptom onset to receive either medical therapy plus thrombectomy or medical therapy only (control). The original primary outcome, a score of 0 to 4 on the modified Rankin scale (range, 0 to 6, with a score of 0 indicating no disability, 4 moderately severe disability, and 6 death) at 90 days, was changed to a good functional status (a modified Rankin scale score of 0 to 3, with a score of 3 indicating moderate disability).

Material And Methods: We retrospectively reviewed patients who underwent endovascular recanalization with no internal carotid artery signal on magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) and whose both preoperative DSA and HR-VWI data were available.

The California Verbal Learning Test-Second Edition (CVLT-II), is a commonly used tool to assess episodic memory. This study analyzed learning and memory characteristics in a cognitively healthy Chinese population, as well as the effects of age, sex and education on CVLT-II factors. In total, 246 healthy people aged 20-80 years and 29 persons with multiple sclerosis (MS) were included in this study and completed the CVLT-II.

Saccharomyces boulardii (Sb) is a widely used fungal probiotic in treating various digestive diseases, including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). However, the specific mechanisms of Sb relieving IBS remain unclear.
