In this paper, a crosslinked carboxymethyl starch (CCMS) was prepared with corn starch as the raw material, epichlorohydrin as the crosslinking agent, and chloroacetic acid as the etherifying agent through a series of crosslinking, alkalization, and etherification reactions, respectively. Nano-TiO was loaded onto the surface of the CCMS by the sol-gel method to obtain a TiO/CCMS composite. The TiO/CCMS composite was characterized by XPS, XRD, SEM, and BET.

Background: As a highly efficient and specific gene regulation technology, RNAi has broad application fields and good prospects. The effect of RNAi enhances as the dosage of siRNA increases, while an exorbitant siRNA dosage will inhibit the RNAi effect. So it is crucial to formulate a dose-effect model to describe the degradation effects of the target mRNA at different siRNA dosages.

State Key Laboratory of Chemical Engineering, Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University Beijing 100084 China

Nanoslits composed of different layered nanomaterials attract great attention in the theoretical and experimental investigations of nanofluidic devices due to their geometric simplicity and unique surface properties. Although many efforts have witnessed simulations of water molecules inside slit-like nanochannels formed by graphenes, the thermodynamic properties and transport behavior of water inside nanoslits formed by different two-dimensional materials are seldom investigated. In this paper, we choose nanoslits formed by graphene, boron nitride (hBN), and molybdenum disulfide (MoS) as models, and study the water properties inside these nanoslits using traditional molecular dynamics simulations at different pressures.

A series of activated carbons with surface areas of 925-1929 m g were synthesized by hydrothermal impregnation of sucrose with HPO and subsequent calcination at 500-900 °C. The prepared various types of activated carbons were utilized for the removal of sulfamethoxazole (SMX) from its solution by adsorption, and the effects of contact time, adsorbent dosage, initial concentration, adsorption temperature and pH on SMX adsorption were studied. The pseudo-second-order and the intra-particle diffusion model were used to analyze the adsorption kinetic data.

Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Shantou University, Shantou, 515063, China; Agro-Environmental Protection Institute, Ministry of Agriculture, No. 31 Fukang Road, Nankai District, Tianjin, 300191, China. Electronic address:

The effects of cadmium (Cd) on wheat seedlings in the presence of graphene oxide (GO) were investigated. Parameters evaluated include root morphology, microtubule protein content, cytochrome P450 activity, and the microcellular structure of wheat seedlings. Compared with treatments with Cd or GO in isolation, treatments combining GO and Cd inhibited the total root length, total root surface area, average root diameter, and number of root hairs.

Design of a Janus F-TiO@PPS Porous Membrane with Asymmetric Wettability for Switchable Oil/Water Separation.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

June 2019

State Key Laboratory of Separation Membranes and Membrane Processes, School of Materials Science and Engineering , Tianjin Polytechnic University, Tianjin 300387 , China.

Extremely asymmetric wettability, high wetting selectivity, instantaneous superwetting behaviors (low transmembrane resistance), and superior resistance to chemicals and solvents are needed for Janus membranes for switchable oil/water separation. However, it is still challenging to obtain Janus membranes with such properties. In this study, a surface with metastable hydrophobicity is constructed on one side of the chemically stable superhydrophilic TiO@PPS membrane by adjusting the hydrophobization depth and the morphology of the hydrophobic layer via a water-oil interfacial grafting.

To study the different effects of single- and hybrid-frequency magnetic fields on long-term potentiation (LTP) in synaptic plasticity. Based on the online electromagnetic field stimulation system and field excitatory postsynaptic potentials (fEPSPs) recording system, we applied four different single- and hybrid-frequency magnetic fields with an intensity of 1 mT to the Schaffer collateral (CA1) pathway of rat hippocampal slices in vitro. The amplitude of fEPSPs decreased significantly under both single- and hybrid-frequency magnetic stimulation.

August 2019

Key Laboratory for Green Chemical Technology, School of Chemical Engineering and Technology, Tianjin University, Tianjin, 300072, China; Collaborative Innovation Center of Chemical Science and Engineering (Tianjin), Tianjin, 300072, China.

Achieving high flux membrane contactor is significantly important for hazardous gas removal. In this study, we prepared poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF)-based mixed matrix membrane contactor (MMMC) that contained a core-shell hirarchical Cu@4A composite filler (Cu@4A). On one hand, the Cu@4A regulated the physical structure of MMMC, which enhanced gas permeation and thus resulted in the increment of physical SO absorption flux.

Design and Regulation of Novel MnFeO@C Nanowires as High Performance Electrode for Supercapacitor.

Nanomaterials (Basel)

May 2019

Tianjin Key Laboratory of Advanced Functional Porous Materials, Institute for New Energy Materials & Low-Carbon Technologies, School of Materials Science and Engineering, Tianjin University of Technology, No. 391 Binshui West Street Xiqing District, Tianjin 300384, China.

Bimetallic oxides have been considered as potential candidates for supercapacitors due to their relatively high electric conductivity, abundant redox reactions and cheapness. However, nanoparticle aggregation and huge volume variation during charging-discharging procedures make it hard for them to be applied widely. In this work, one-dimensional (1D) MnFeO@C nanowires were in-situ synthesized via a simply modified micro-emulsion technique, followed by thermal treatment.

This study investigated the influence of three different organic carbon sources including sodium acetate (SOD), glucose (GLU), and starch (STAR), on soluble microbial products (SMP), which presumably have dissimilar uptake rates and metabolic pathways, in sequencing batch reactors (SBR) and their subsequent effects on membrane fouling of ultrafiltration (UF). SMP were mainly characterized by fluorescence excitation emission matrix coupled with parallel factor analysis (EEM-PARAFAC) and size exclusion chromatography (SEC). SMP produced in SOD-fed SBR showed higher abundances of protein-like fluorescent component and large sized aliphatic biopolymer (BP) than GLU- or STAR-fed counterpart did, while the STAR-based operation resulted in more SMP enriched with humic-like fluorescence.
