Objective: To investigate the relationship between activity of autocrine loop of platelet-derived growth factor BB (PDGFBB), cell proliferation and apoptosis in gliomas.
Methods: 73 human gliomas with different degrees of malignancy were studied using in situ hybridization, in situ cell death detection (TUNEL method) and immunohistochemistry.
Results: The activity of PDGFBB autocrine loop and cell proliferation in gliomas correlated positively with each other and increased with the degree of tumor malignancy.

We 22 cases of syringomyelia were verified by MR and treated by syrinx-peritoneal shunting with "T" tube. After the operation, the patients were reexamined by MR and B ultrasound and confirmed that their shunting was functional. Symptoms of the patients disappeared.

This study was undertaken to determine whether the interleukin-2 receptor alpha (IL-2Ralpha) coding gene could serve as a genetic marker of intestinal allograft rejection. The small bowel graft from Jinbai mice was heterotopically transplanted to BALB/c mice. Naive BALB/c mice and BALB/c mice with intestinal isografts were used as controls.

Objective: To establish a model of renovascular hypertension.
Methods: A 4/0 resorbable chromic catgut ligature was used to ligate subtotally the renal arteries of 18 dogs, forming experimental renovascular hypertension steadily. Blood pressure, plasma renin activity, the ultrastructural changes of juxtaglomerular apparatus and renal artery wall were studied after the constriction.

Objective: This study aimed to report the occurrence of visual field defects after pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) for the treatment of each of the following conditions: macular hole (MH), subretinal neovascular membrane (SRNVM), and epiretinal membrane proliferation (EMP). This study also aimed to speculate on the pathogenic mechanisms for the observed field defects.
Design: Noncomparative case series.

In this study a chronic cerebral iron-loaded model was established by feeding mice with high iron diet. Data indicated that brain iron concentrations were significantly increased in iron-fed mice compared with those of controls. A significant increase in oxidized glutathione (GSSG), decrease in total glutathione (oxidized and reduced glutathione, GSSG + GSH), and therefore increase in the GSSG/(GSSG + GSH) ratios were observed in iron-loaded mice.

To elucidate the neuroprotective effects of the iron chelator desferrioxamine (DFO) and the antioxidant vitamin E on excessive iron-induced free radical damage, a chronic iron-loaded mice model was established. The relationship between striatal iron content, oxidized to reduced glutathione ratio, hydroxyl radical (.OH) levels and dopamine concentrations were observed in DFO or vitamin E pretreated iron-loaded/1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP)-treated C57BL/6 mice.

Objective: To analyse the clinical manifestation and treatment of obstructive dystocia due to cervical adhesion.
Method: Ten cases of obstructive dystocia due to cervical adhesion were retrospectively analysed.
Results: Gram's stain of the cervical smear was positive for gonococci in all of the 10 patients.

Objective: To study the function of microencapsulated porcine islets in vitro and in vivo.
Methods: Consecutive perfusion of collagenase via pancreatic ducts was used to isolate porcine islet of langerhans. The micro encapsulates were made by phase-separation method with Chinese-made agarose as immunoisolation membrane, 21 diabetic rats were used, 6 for comparing and 15 for transplantation.
