Liver fibrosis is caused by a variety of pathogenic factors. It is mainly characterized by chronic liver damage mediated by the imbalance between extracellular matrix synthesis and degradation. If the injury factor cannot be removed for a long time, fibrosis will progress to cirrhosis or even cancer.

Background: The current understanding of untreated ruptured intracranial aneurysms has been limited by study design and inaccurate patient data. Multicenter clinical registry studies on untreated ruptured intracranial aneurysms in Chinese patients are scarce. We aimed to calculate the mortality of patients with untreated ruptured intracranial aneurysms in a current, clearly defined hospital cohort in China, with emphasis on mortality predictors over a 2-year period.

Retinal ischemia-reperfusion (RIR) injury is involved in the pathogenesis of various vision-threatening diseases. The overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) is thought to be the main cause of RIR injury. A variety of natural products, including quercetin (Que), exhibit potent antioxidant activity.

Objectives: A novel temperature-controlled intravascular radiofrequency balloon angioplasty (RFBA) technique was designed and developed for atherosclerosis (AS) management.
Methods: After establishing an AS model based on a balloon denudation injury of the abdominal aorta and a high cholesterol diet in rabbits, 46 animals were randomly assigned to the RFBA group (n = 28) or the plain balloon angioplasty (PBA) group (n = 28). The groups were further subdivided based on post-treatment euthanasia times (1 hour, 7 days, 14 days, and 28 days).

Background Limited data are available for postpartum hypertension prediction after preeclampsia. Methods and Results We examined the association between maternal serum chemerin levels in patients with preeclampsia and blood pressure (BP) levels after delivery in a prospective birth cohort of 15 041 singleton pregnant women. A total of 310 cases among 322 patients with preeclampsia (follow-up rate, 96.

Congenital absence of LAA could be incidentally detected in patient with ischemic stroke and atrial fibrillation. Although it is considered to be an extremely rare cardiac anomaly, its clinical significance remains unknown and there is no clear consensus in the management strategy in those patients.

Cuproptosis, a newly discovered mechanism of programmed cell death, is important for detailing the metabolic aspects of cancer progression and thereby guiding cancer therapy. An exciting era of translational medicine has led to the rapid development of countless immunotherapeutic strategies. The existing successful cancer immunotherapies have sparked new hope for patients with solid and hematologic malignancies.

Methods and Results This population-based prospective study enrolled 98 779 participants free of hypertriglyceridemia and CVD at baseline in the Kailuan study initiated in June 2006. All participants underwent health checkups biennially until December 2017, and a total of 13 832 participants developed new hypertriglyceridemia.

Among prostanoids, prostaglandin E2 and its E-prostanoid receptor 4 receptor (EP4R) have been implicated in blood pressure control. Our previous study found that conditional deletion of EP4R from all tissues in adult mice exacerbates angiotensin II-dependent hypertension, suggesting a powerful effect of EP4R to resist blood pressure elevation.

What Is Known And Objective: Pain is the main symptom of herpes zoster (HZ), whilst postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) is a long-term unbearable pain, which seriously affects the quality of life of patients and is also the most intractable problem for clinicians. Early antiviral treatment is considered as a key measure to reduce acute pain and PHN. Nevertheless, most patients still have long-term pain after 7 days of antiviral treatment, and some patients will develop PHN.

Immunotherapies that block PD-L1/PD-1 immune checkpoint proteins represent a landmark breakthrough in cancer treatment. Although the role of PD-L1 in suppressing T cell activity has been extensively studied, its cancer cell-intrinsic functions are not well understood. Herein, we demonstrated that PD-L1 is important for the repair of DNA damage in cancer cells.

Background Persistent sensorimotor impairments after stroke can negatively impact quality of life. The hippocampus is vulnerable to poststroke secondary degeneration and is involved in sensorimotor behavior but has not been widely studied within the context of poststroke upper-limb sensorimotor impairment. We investigated associations between non-lesioned hippocampal volume and upper limb sensorimotor impairment in people with chronic stroke, hypothesizing that smaller ipsilesional hippocampal volumes would be associated with greater sensorimotor impairment.

Objective: Extracellular histone (EH) is involved in the development of septic myocardial injury (SMI). In this study, we explored whether EH could induce left ventricular diastolic dysfunction (LVDD) in sepsis, and investigated the potential mechanisms through and experiments using animal models.
Methods: The ratio between E-wave and A-wave (E/A ratio), left ventricular end diastolic volume, and isovolumic relaxation time (IVRT) were measured in cecal ligation and perforation (CLP)- and EH-treated male C57BL/6J mice using echocardiography.

Ferroptosis is a recently recognized type of programmed cell death and emerges to play an important role in cancer biology and therapies. This unique form of cell death, characterized by iron-dependent lipid peroxidation, is exquisitely regulated by the cellular metabolic networks such as lipid, iron and amino acid metabolism. The sensitivity to ferroptosis varies among different tumors.

Background: To observe the analgesic effect of different ultrasound-guided methods of serratus anterior plane block (SAPB) after surgery in patients who have undergone thoracoscopic lobectomy with general anesthesia combined with thoracic paravertebral nerve block.
Methods: A total of 120 patients aged 18-65 years old scheduled for video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) were selected. Patients were randomly divided into 3 groups: patient-controlled intravenous analgesia (PCIA) group, serratus anterior plane block (SPB) group and continuous serratus anterior plane block (CSPB) group (n=40 each).

While rapid wound healing is essential yet challenging, there is also an unmet need for functional restoration of sensation. Inspired by natural skin, an ultra-conformable, adhesive multi-functional ionic skin (MiS) with multi-modal sensing capability is devised for smart and expedited wound care. The base of MiS is a unique skin-like, conductive and self-adaptive adhesive polyacrylamide/starch double-network hydrogel (PSH) and self-powered, flexible, triboelectric sensor(s) is integrated on top of PSH for multi-tactile sensing.
