Purpose: To describe a novel surgical approach for treating patients diagnosed with severe idiopathic epiretinal membranes (iERM) featuring ectopic intrafoveal layers (EIFL).
Method: A retrospective, interventional case series was conducted involving eight cases of iERM with EIFL. The technique involved a 27-gauge vitrectomy, removal of all vitreous adhesions, and injection of approximately 100μl sub-retinal balanced salt solution (BSS) using a 41-gauge subretinal needle, creating 3-4 localized bleb-like elevations around the folded retina to loosen it.

Autoimmune uveitis and posterior scleritis are ocular diseases caused by immune dysregulation. Their pathogenesis remains elusive, and delayed diagnosis can exacerbate vision loss. Our study analyzed proteomic profiles of 190 patients with Behcet's disease uveitis, posterior scleritis, and Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada syndrome.

We report a rare case of Saturday Night Retinopathy (SNR) following postoperative orbital compression bandaging, highlighting the value of multimodal imaging in diagnosis and management. A 24-year-old male underwent surgical repair of an inferior orbital wall fracture with an absorbable implant, followed by compression bandaging of the right eye for three days. Upon bandage removal, the patient experienced a significant drop in visual acuity (VA) from 20/20 to 20/200.

Eyelid pressure is a crucial biomechanical parameter for ocular health and refractive status, yet measuring it poses challenges related to flexibility, sensitivity, and regional specificity. This study introduces a novel smart contact lens that incorporates kirigami designs and an iontronic capacitive sensing array to enhance flexibility and conformability. The unique structural composition of this device allows for precise and simultaneous monitoring of eyelid pressure in multiple regions with a high sensitivity and seamlessly fit across corneal curvatures.

Objective: Retinal vein occlusion (RVO) leads to visual impairment, and risk factors may include glaucoma. Although some studies suggest a relationship between glaucoma and RVO, it is unknown whether this association is causal. We performed Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses to evaluate the causal contribution to RVO of five genetically predicted glaucoma conditions.

Background: To assess the rate of macular blood flow decreasing in adults with and without posterior staphyloma (PS) using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) and to identify risk factors associated with PS progression.
Methods: This longitudinal case-control study enrolled 122 eyes of 122 patients-64 patients with PS (PS group) and 58 patients without PS (NPS group). Participants underwent OCTA and clinical examinations at least twice, and those followed for at least one year were included in the analysis.

Aim: To investigate the causal effect of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) on ocular inflammation using Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis.
Methods: Genetic instruments associated with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), ulcerative colitis (UC), and Crohn's disease (CD) were derived from the largest genome-wide association studies (GWAS) published to date. The FinnGen research project was utilized to identify genetic risk variants associated with conjunctivitis, keratitis, iridocyclitis, chorioretinitis, episcleritis, and optic neuritis.

Uveal melanoma (UM) is the predominant form of eye cancer. The genes GNAQ and GNA11, encoding Gq and G11 respectively, are most frequently mutated in UM and are considered the major drivers of UM carcinogenesis by activating YAP. However, the mechanisms by which metastatic UM evades the immune system remain poorly understood.

Oxidative stress-induced lens epithelial cells (LECs) death plays a pivotal role in pathogenesis of age-related cataract (ARC), causing significant visual impairment. Apoptosis of porcine granulosa cells mediated by MMP2 is linked to DNA damage. The current study aimed to investigate the potential mechanism of MMP2 in DNA damage, apoptosis and senescence of lens epithelial cells caused by oxidative stress.

Continued daily exposure to fine particulate matter (PM) is linked to increasing risks of ocular surface diseases. However, further study is needed to understand how real-ambient PM disrupts the barrier function of the corneal epithelial layers and its underlying mechanism. In our study, we utilized a real-ambient PM exposure system to investigate its effects on the corneal epithelial barrier in C57BL/6Jmice over 4 and 8 weeks.
